Xbox One adds Xbox 360 backwards compatibility

wow RDR far in the lead with 1111+ votes, didnt know yall loved the game that much, even beat Skyrim

Aye.

Skyrim has PC releases to keep it relevant, but RDR has nothing. You've never been able to natively record gameplay or take screenshots in RDR, always had to go through some other device (say an Elgato), so this is necessary.

This smells very fishy to me.

Reckon this had anything to do with Grand Theft Auto V last-gen next-gen double dipping?

If both Sony and Microsoft agreed to delay their backwards compatibility announcement then it would mean Rockstar would sell more Grand Theft Auto V on next-gen and they'd get their cut from licensing/disc printing etc.

Hmm...

except that GTAV 360 isn't on the list and theirs no telling when it will be if ever....

Is your tinfoil hat on too tight? That's a real stretch.

So how was that voting list on Xbox uservoice populated?

There doesn't seem to be a listing for UMvC3. Perhaps delisted games are off the table.

Can someone who has managed to download a 360 game onto their Xbox One do the following?:
*Go to My Games and Apps
*Hover over a 360 title
*Press RT, LT, and Select (the view button?) over the title
*See if x64 is mentioned in the name.

Most Xbox One games have _x64_ in the title somewhere. If the 360 games have been recompiled they may also.

It's also a cool way to see what the games are named internally. Forza Horizon 2 is Anthem_1.0.0.47_x64_gibberish

I tested Kameo, and yeah it is an x64 build from 06/15

There is smoke and mirrors at work here.

Even after he announced it, he walked it back a fair bit.

If PSNow was made free, for games you own, would that be backwards compatibility? Not really.

This is access to some back catalogue games, via downloads and/or streaming.

Imo, the term 'Backwards compatibility' should be reserved for actual native support of previous gen disks.

Still, could be cool, but my initial pleasant surprise has been tamed a bit by reality.

Free PSNow would still be something completely different as you wouldn't be able to play it offline. In fact, your console is never actually running the game at all (it'd be like claiming the Vita is forward compatible with PS4 games).

It's closer to something like the Virtual Console, if you didn't need to repurchase shit. Backwards compatibility still isn't the greatest term because it has a limited selection.. but it's probably easier to explain the concept using that term rather than anything else.

This seriously is the smartest move Microsoft could have pulled to help jump start sales after dumping Kinect and re-focusing back on games.

I have a stack of at least 50 360 games and I want to keep playing them. But I don't want to have a 360 constantly hooked up when I already have a PS4, Xbone, Wii U, Apple TV, etc... I'm already out of HDMI and ethernet ports (wi-fi interference is very bad in my building.)

If the BC implementation works well it's a godsend and I will make a lot more use of my Xbox One.

I don't understand backwards compatibility hype. There is a already a console for that.

I have already played the games, I still have the console.

How'd you even find your arcade games? Do you have to go to the website?

My games & apps - > Games -> all the way right, "Ready to Install" or something like that. They seem to be going up in batches. I have a couple that still aren't showing up for me, and the six I have took a while to pop up.

Not having to switch consoles to play stuff, and not having to use old controllers. The 360 games gaining access to all the new X1 OS features (streaming, screenshots, snap etc). Also, if the games work on the new console, they're less likely to shut XBL for the 360 off completely, which would essentially delist everything in my library.

I wonder if 360 Kinect games will work with the new Kinect, heh.

I hope so. I don't have my old Kinect hooked up anymore, because I cba working out a decent way of it sharing space with the X1 Kinect. However there are 360 Kinect games that I'd still like to play from time to time (the 360 has a far stronger Kinect library).

EDIT: boooo

My hype for this has diminished pretty severely. From what I gather the following situation would occur. Twenty years from now, the Xbox One servers are down. I hold, theoretically, a USB stick or a disc to update the XB1 to the latest firmware. Following that I plop in Perfect Dark Zero for the first time, because I have no taste. The game simply can't play because the servers are gone and I never downloaded the new version. This is correct right?
