Do you really think that they would be able to fund the game with just 2m $ ?
Of course Sony will fund it, it's just REALLY hard to tell how big the hype is exactly.
Twitter messages and lists are one thing, but this is a game that had a budget that was unmatched back in the day and arrived on a platform that was already on the way to the ER.
And let's not forget that it's a sequel, so it's not really friendly towards people unfamilar with the series.
They're not just gonna sink money into a project they can hardly pull off your usual estimates.
So that's a method to see, IF the buzz is real and if people are willed to invest into the game.
/r/Gaming is such a weird place, with a very narrow taste in games. Pretty much only covers high profile PC games, a small slice of retro gaming and a sprinkling of Nintendo. I went there after the Sony presentation to see what the wider Reddit reaction to it and E3 in general was. It was as though E3 wasn't even happening. There was one E3 released topic on the fist page (TLG). A handful more now, but you have to got back 5 pages to see any mention of Shenmue.
Like with everything Reddit, escape from the default subreddits, and things get far better.
yeah. after FF7 and U4, and horizon... everything else was kinda like 'huh' to me. Information overload. I can't handle all these awesomeness at once.

i can understand why folks would be down on this conference but at the same time this conference is legendary. It may not have been the best Sony conference but it is one of the best fanboy's dream conference. Truth be told if you look at the Sony conference without the hype you get a ff7 remake trailer for a game that won't come out until 2018 or 2019 cause ff15 in 2016 then kh3 in 2017. We have the last guardian a game that was suppose to come out a decade ago have a release date of some time next year and an announcement of a kickstarter of a game. If you look at these as well as the rest of the Sony conference all we really have left is hopeful gameplay of horizon and that mm game. There was no mgs5, no persona, no gt, driveclub plps, no wild arms, no level 5, no god of war, nothing from the infamous studio, rime, the witness, tearaway, ratchet and clank( was already shown), indie reel, tommorrow children, and the majority of the games were not playstation exclusive. It honestly felt like we were missing half of the show when i calmed down and thought about it.

I love how the theme of Sony was give fans what they fucking want. How hard is it? For a whole generation they wanted The Last Guardian. For a decade they have a wanted FFVII remake. For 14 years they have wanted Shenmue 3.

Great presser, none of this great stuff is dropping anytime soon, no Persona 5 but I can dig all the things they showed. With the big guns out on deck, I feel like PS experience is gonna shake down some big news on the stuff we were expecting such as P5 and what not.

They specifically said E3, that's why I was expecting it.

Game needs to have an audience beyond those funding it to make financial sense. This is the hardest part to figure out. There is a rabid fanbase but it can't make you money unless you can sell a ton of copies

I wish we had a thread to rant about this. Only TLG & FF7 came close to Half Life 3, and it now stands alone as the only giant game that's dying to be declared officially real & in production.

I've felt this way for years about GB, I'm shocked at the size of their fan base.
that was a reveal trailer. pretty positive that her speaking that much was to set the tone and context of the world we were introduced to.
personally, horizon was game of the show.

Until today, these games didn't exist. Now we know they are coming.
Yes, they are a long way off (well FF and Shenmue at least), yes they could end up being bad games... but the fans are just happy these games are definitely coming. I gave up on Shenmue 3 years ago, but here we are.
These announcements are literally the stuff dreams are made of for some people. The very definition of "legendary".
Not in terms of quality, in terms of how long it takes to get made...

I really don't get the "nothing this year" cries, followed immediately by "we have already seen this before". Game development takes a long time. I think some people's perceptions may be altered by apple doing "available now" style surprise app releases, we actually got a few of those with fallout phone game and media player for PS4 but you can't just drop huge budget multi year "AAA" games like that.
GAF wasn't working after the conference so I'll post my impressions now.
Wow. That was an impressive conference. They blew MS out of the water and I doubt Nintendo will top it. Last year I felt bad for whoever went to a movie theatre to watch Sonys boring conference but this year Sony delivered. TLG finally reemerges, I lost hope years ago but it's finally back. FF VII remake is finally a reality. Shenmue III Kickstarter announced. MM's Dreams, while not really a game is awesome. That robot dino hunting game was a cool idea. And so much more! That Disney Infinity guy was hilarious.
NMS was pretty much what I expected. I was not impressed but it's a pretty big blunder to debut the first gameplay in a rushed conference setting. Though I do appreciate them caving into the pressure to show it. I hope Hello Games has a longer more interesting demonstration planned. And was the whole world really fully destructible? I wanted to see him tunnel into the ground. I suspect it will only be rocks and tress.

I hope so, cause it seems they wanted to mimic uncharted and with an open world RPG that would be a tragic mistake.
