What kind of worries me now is that Sony pulled an, "oops too soon," and will catch a ton of flak when these games aren't out in a timely manner. I guess we'll see what happens.

People are getting too excited for name brands and thinking these shows are legendary. Shit is all smokes and mirrors. When you peel the announcements away, we are still a long ways from seeing a lot of these games in playable form.

Marketing at its best.

So this is different from any other E3?

- Silent HIlls
- Half life 3
- Resident Evil 2

who really wants silent hills or re2 though. i think people really actually want skies 2 and beyond good & evil 2.

actually, what's really exciting about shenmue iii getting a kickstarter out of all games is that it will really open the door to games like bge 2 actually getting a chance, i think.

I've felt this way for years about GB, I'm shocked at the size of their fan base.

I love Giantbomb. Their podcasts are fun to listen to and I enjoy their video content (e.g., quickooks and such) as well. But yeah, sometimes it does seem like they hate games. If you watched Sony's entire presser and didn't feel like running around at any point, it's kind of hard to imagine you enjoy anything about video games. On the other hand, remember that they've being doing this for years and it's their job so there's also a lot of work that comes with it for them beyond just enjoying the announcements.

You know, I don't care at all about TLG, FFVII, or Shenmue 3, but I still got excited about this conference. It's fun to see so many people finally getting things they've wanted for so long, and never thought would happen. It's fun. Video games are fun.

Also, Horizon looks fucking amazing and I need it right now.

When everyone else like this:

eeehhhhhh

The industry has giant problems if all reviewers acted in kind. Hell, if everyone else actually was like that, that gif everyone is posting wouldn't be significant at all.

That was bar none the best conference I've ever seen put together.

Now it helps that I've been pining for Shenmue III and the Last Guardian for, collectively, 24 years.

I get that this was an amazing conference for a lot of GAF which has an older demographic, but the three megatons...

FF7 remake
Shenmue 3
TLG

I don't really care for any of the them and I'm sure a lot of people in my age group would agree (20 and younger). Which is I think why you see the relatively muted reception on places like Reddit.

E3 is all about the hype and surprise. I don't want to see games I already know exist and are right around the corner. Show me those games at any time of the year. At E3 I want megatons and mind-blowing announcements, with some breath taking gameplay of new games.

Ubisoft are usually the guys I rely on for that, and they didn't disappoint with For Honor and the new Ghost Recon. But after Sony's Horizon, Dreams, FF7 remake, The Last Guardian, and Shenmue 3... well holy fuck, that's EXACTLY what I watch E3 for.

I don't think you know what that word even means. Just throwing around stuff because my opinion does not match with your? discuss or don't quote me.

I know exactly what salty means.

It has nothing to do with opinions. Your comments attempt to paint negativity across what was an excellent conference. If you think that Sony did anything that Microsoft or Bethesda or EA haven't done already then you are truly ignorant.

That's a fair point, I guess I always forget there's people in an age group younger than me (28 - which I don't consider an 'older' demographic :P)

Same age sort of agree but at the same time I think it was one of the best conferences I've seen even though I didn't really care for some of the announcements

I feel like banging my head on a wall.

Up that mass market number. Mass Market appeal is huge. Black Ops, Destiny, Batman, and Assassins Creed. Those ARE the mass market.

They just got buried under megatons, and are not hip for the enthusiast crowd. Bit they are now slightly attached to the sony brand.

Add to that the gameplay that was shown. Lots of it, for big games.

What is the mass market for you?! Seriously, it had cod, ac and battlefront. You don't get much more mass market than that.

lmfao they ended one of THE best third party marketing deals MS had this conference with Call of Duty. They are also marketing one of the biggest games of the year with Battlefield. They are also marketing Batman/Destiny etc etc. They also got exclusive content for one of the most popular family oriented franchises around with Disney Infinity.

I could go on and on. This conference was the perfect balance of catering to the core and the mass market. Sony is going to absolutely kill it this holiday season.

I apologize - was probably a really, really dumb thing to post.

In my head, I think I was weighing the wide-appeal of exclusives, with Microsoft's Halo/Gears/Forza/Tomb Raider combo, against Sony's Uncharted/Horizon/Last Guardian/Shenmue/FF7, and trying to explain partly to myself, why some seem more impressed with the MS offering (I wasn't - Sony was on fire!). Marketing rights is probably also much bigger deal than I'd first thought however.

okay you're a troll, bro

What Shenmue fan wouldn't react like that? I bet if Phil Spencer was a Shenmue fan, he'd be crying for it.

Been in class for hours but finally out! Holy shit! Need to see it to believe it (S3,FFR,TLG). Gonna feast and get wasted while watching, for a boost in lulz. So so LTTP

Can I predict what he'll think of the Nintendo show tomorrow?

Sure, I'm straight up not going to be excited about anything they're showing. Like every Nintendo conference for the past who knows how long. Unless they announce that Wii U virtual library titles are coming to the 3ds. Then I can finally play Earthbound or some shit.

i'm exited by ff7 but it was CGI , no ?
Can i assume it will take some more take to come ?

Rumours are it's aiming for a 2017 release date (20th anniversary). I'm not sure that's possible, but then again, I didn't even think an announcement of the game was possible...

There's also the older demographic (40+) which could be in the same boat as the young people you're talking about.

This particular conference just hit a bullseye with a certain slice of the population bursting with nostalgia for things like FF7.

On the other hand, people 40 and up were probably far more excited by the Doom announce than something like TLG.

Good points you bring up.

I'd rather not watch their reactions personally. Don't need a bunch of sour-faced cynics putting a damper on such a historic day for gaming.

How was it historic? Just announcements for games coming out in the next few years. One for a project that seemed dead and buried, another for a franchise that was buried, and a remake of a classic game. What here is historic? Maybe TLG will become one of the great games, but we won't know until it's, you know, released. An announcement is historic?

30s and 40s are crying big man tears tonight.

And you know what's good for Sony? They have the money. And they will buy.
That's a huge win for Sony tonight.

WIld guess you're between 20-25
If not what where you doing in 1997 to not understand

I dunno, I think it's fun to see genuine reactions like that. I think it would be more of a problem if all reviewers and journalists were constantly stone faced and showed no excitement or emotion.

I can see it... The not too distant future. Every conceivable project from every developer in existence is on Kickstarter. Only the 3 highest funded are developed each year. Power of the people. Democracy in action.

Fucking kill me now

That's basically Steam now. Seems to be working ok.

Wasnt that about the show floor being mostly Morpheus

Well, Morpheus probably needs to take up that space if they plan to demo every game.

Last year, I lined up immediately for Morpheus after the opening, and I got a ticket appointment for Morpheus 3 hours later.

The booth for like four morpheus stations was about 5% of the Sony floor.

Ehhh, I'm 32 and these 3 games so far aren't hitting a high note for me. It's not necessarily an age thing, though that certainly isn't likely to help matters, you're right.

i'm exited by ff7 but it was CGI , no ?
Can i assume it will take some more take to come ?

It was. And the game will likely still have FMV moments in it. Its existence alone is what has people losing their shit.

I thought it was a great conference, nice megatons like revealing FF7, Shen Mue 3 and TLG. But I went to bed roughly 1 hour into the conference. Did Sony mention any Vita games other than that FF Worlds game?

I'm in the older bracket (39), and I am way more excited for Fallout 4 and Doom than I am for TLG. I really liked SoTC and ICO though, so I am def interested in playing it when it drops

FF7 and Shenmue have no impact on me at all. I think it is because when these games were popular, I was heavily into PC gaming (I am a relative newbie to console gaming)

The collective reaction to the 3 games is def more intensified here than other places.

The industry already has major problems because most reviewers already come off as aaa shills with no actual love for games. At least these dudes appear to be fans.

Advent children will probably helps a lot for that.

I think the question of age is a weird one. I think this was a conference in many ways for core gamers.

Sure, the casual gamer who picked up Shenmue or FF7 15-20 years ago might get some nostalgia from tonight. But really, these were announcements that brought out excitement across ages. I'm 20 like some of the more "unexcited" folks here. But I'm excited as hell! Why? Because even though I didn't play Shenmue or FF7 as a kid or at their release, I played them years later. And I've grown up waiting for TLG! I think your excitement here will be at least somewhat proportional to your love for, knowledge of and consumption of gaming history.

Overall, the entire Sony conference was amazing. Sony is really making sure that the PS4 is a golden goose. The PS Vita on the other hand....

I get what you're saying, but I think you're being overly critical. If people don't have a 64 bit gaming PC, which a lot of people don't, there are plenty of games playable on the PS4 this season.

Not enough for me..but plenty of good stuff.

Eh, I look at these things as what I'm going to get out of them, i'm not really interested in what other people will. I'm not angry or annoyed, I know the consoles don't get that many exclusives, I expect maybe only one or two games a year that I'll want to play that I can't get anywhere else - it's just I feel Sony don't really utilise their first party studios correctly, they have enough, they have enough variety too - but they don't really schedule stuff correctly, no real consistency either.
