SHENMUE 3 kickstarter (PC/PS4) - FINAL DAY - NEW KS RECORD GO GO GO!

This is just so amazing. I can't wait to see what numbers this campaign will achieve in the end. By the rate it's going, it should be able to beat Bloodstained's record quite easily. But by how much? Will Shenmue 3 be able to break the 10 million mark even? Or will it just drop like a rock once the initial rush is over and all the hardcore fans of the series have pledged? With Shenmue 1 & 2 not being available easily, this project likely has a hard time to appeal to a new audience.

It's just so exicting!

I played Shenmue 1 and 2 when I was like 6. With my brother, I would watch most of the time when it got difficult but loved going round. I played them again at 10 and then 16 and loved it more each time. The impact the games have on my opinions on storytelling in videogames and just my views on the medium as an art Form have been immeasurable. I'm so excited that this is happening - I still can't believe it, and probably won't until I play it. Thanks to everyone involved; let's make it happen guys, and make it as successful as it deserves to be.

It's crazy that this thread is ahead of the FF7 Remake thread. I guess a lot off FF7 fans died with a heart attack.

Shenmue > Final Fantasy confirmed

I think this image is important. I believe $2million goal would give us the barebone Shenmue III game, but if we want the full meat that know Shenmue for and more madness from investors, we need to pledge more. Ideally, this game need to reach $15 million minimum. Right now, the trend of the funding is on route to $29 million.
My guess is each new area is $2M based on the first stretch goal being $2M... So $8M for the full Shenmue experience

It's sad that it took this long for Shenmue 3 to finally start getting made. It seemed like a poisoned franchise because it's tied to the downfall of Sega and it failed miserably on Xbox but my thought always was at the time that the game had an audience. Almost everyone who owned a Dreamcast bought 1, and Xbox just wasn't right right platform for 2, plus it was a super late port. It would've done better on PS2

HOLD ON!

I didnt play any of the previous 2 games...why arent the 2 games remastered and released on PC yet?

If it was a backer option or milestone, then I would be into it, for a reasonable price.

Development tools have gotten a lot better since those days. Some of those tools were just in there infancy back then, now the techniques have been refined and made more efficient.

Now it won't be so massively costly and resource intensive.

UE4 is going to make a world of difference here. We are talking about a free development kit with a lot of flexibility and easy to use tools. The original Shenmue was in development since the Sega Saturn days back when it was rumored to be Virtua Fighter RPG. The development time they spent on that system plus the console switch to the Dreamcast did drive up the development costs.

I think one of the most expensive things that they will have to deal with is the voice acting cast (if they get a good agency to do it, and if it is multi-linugual... Obviously they will want a Japanese voice cast first) . If they want a good orchestrated soundtrack, that will cost them too.

This Kickstarter was launched around 6:50pm PST (my time) and it is now 3:07am PST. It has almost reached two million in under 10 hours. Yooka-Laylee hit one million in under 10 hours and held the record for fastest game project to hit a million dollars.

$6-8m is my conservative estimate provided they fix the campaign page and add decent reward tiers tomorrow.

You need to compare it to other high earning kickstarter campaigns.
I do expect it to do better than Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Torment or Pillars of Eternity, so more than 6 million should be doable.
How much more will be much up to how the campaign is run.

I would suggest throwing in development footage from DC/XB Shenmue III, (no reason why Sega should hold on to it) That would be one of the best things ever.

Probably asked a million times already but any chance they will add a Xbox One Stretch Goal for example @ $5 Mil? Or is the game co-funded by Sony?

Thanks in advance.

This was the best news out of E3 for me. I hope they add Shenmue 1 & 2 remakes as stretch goals or something. Its been forever since I've played them and new players will benefit from having the entire story (not just movies that recap the first 2).

SEGA is retaining the rights to 1 & 2.

But if anything will convince them, this should be it.

It would take far too many resource for their small studio to work on a HD release. Also Shenmue 3 isn't due to at least December 2017 and probably a bit later so there is a chance they might pop up before then via Sega. I'm mean if this Kickstarter makes over 2 million+ I'm sure Sega have the resources to do a quick port that is almost guaranteed to make 1 million+ in sales.

The alternative would be to pickup the Dreamcast versions of the game and play then on an emulator which is the equivalent of a HD port (1080p/60fps). Obviously it is no remaster but I couldn't see anyone producing a remaster oh Shenmue any time soon as it wouldn't make the returns needed to develop.

I like this. If companies find a certain game too risky they should use kickstarter, so people can actually fund the game and not just talk online.

I'll echo the sentiments of others and that I'm surprised that they have such a big hole in the 500-10k backing range. Should have a few different points at 750, 1000, 2500, 5000, 7500 etc etc. Just seems like its not taking full advantage of nerds like me who have alot of disposable funds to give. Hopefully they may add some down the line. What a crazy night.

If you'd told me 24 hours ago Fallout 4, Last Guardian nor a FFVII SODDING PS4 FULL BLOWN REMAKE wouldn't be my focal point of interest from the evening I would have insisted you were insane.

And yet here we are.

Guys,

Shenmue III has long been a game I have wanted very badly. However over the years my faith in it happening decreased hugely and went to the back of my head. It took on near mythical status but every 12 months or so I would check in on Shenmue Dojo to see what the latest update might be. I'd google Shenmue 3 to try and find the wistful and hopeful headline of the day that people were clinging to.

I'd almost given up hope.

But I never did.

2 weeks ago I moved house and donated or gave away almost every old video game thing I had. All my Playstation games, all my Playstation 2 games, all my Dreamcast games (I had no console anymore), all my Xbox games, all my Xbox 360 games, all my PS3 games. Controllers, consoles, VGA leads. It all went.

Apart from... Shenmue, Shenmue 2 and the Xbox port of Shenmue 2.

Somehow I knew.

One day...

Today is that day.

Good man.

We're nearly there.

Fuck it, I'll risk making a thread as I personally think Shenmue 3 breaking Kickstarter Game records is news worth discussing and a thread of its own. Making the draft right now.
