Massive goodwill announcement yeah.

But announcing a kickstarter campaign is so lame in hindsight.

A multi-billion corporation asking the fans to fund some of the game lol.

Why couldn't you just fund it full stop?

I keep seeing this and I just have to wonder, would you rather it be full on PS4 exclusive? At least this way, it gets on PC too, how is that a bad thing?

I was disappointed that Sony - known for their hardware design - have left PS4 owners with the current controller's poorly made thumb sticks. Although an improvement over the DS3 (whom many here swore by), it is a generation behind the ergonomics of the XB1 controller. Microsoft's introduction of the Elite controller - though ridiculously priced - demonstrates a mindset that is garnered to actual gamers; they are willing to make significant changes to improve the design.

Yeah I'd really like a better quality controller and in addition a battery life that lasts a reasonable amount of time. I'd like to see Sony catch up on the software side too. Still waiting for friend online notifications.

Guys just imagine if Square Enix didn't have a conference...

they would have shown KH3, Nier 2 and Star Ocean 5 on the Sony one

That would be the best conference someone can make.

Fuck, FF7R, Shenmue 3, Dark Souls 3, Nier 2, No Man Sky, Horizon.... I feel like having sex with my PS4 right now.

Honestly, after the passing of the legendary Dusty Rhodes and Christopher Lee, this E3 and Sony's conference in particular was wow.... much appreciated.

This E3 rivals the infamous, nigh-untouchable pre-release PS4 / pre-180 Xbone E3.

E3 living up to it's billing, y'all.

Thanks for tuning in & I'm glad some of you enjoyed the show ;)

Great show! I hope you all take some time to watch a few reaction videos to some of your announcements. You guys had grown men actually crying tears of joy. That's all you have to say about the show.

Now... DQ VIII HD Remaster pretty please? :)

"We know you want this, we know you'll pay for this...

But we have NO FAITH in this...so...

You pay for it!!!!"

**excited insane cheering** **fanboy squeals**

I don't think you understand. People are excited because after more than a decade of waiting and dreaming they will finally get Shenmue III. I don't think they give a fuck about how the funding happens, and as you saw by how quickly it got funded they were only too happy to pay for it.

That sounds like a bit of salty comment to me.

That's the way I interpreted it as well.

It's just a lack of understanding over what the Kickstarter actually means. It's not a way to fund the game, it's to demonstrably and quantitatively present the prospects of a potential investment to a publisher, corporation, shareholders, investors, whatever. Now the Shenmue team can take their record breaking Kickstarter to the board and say there is significant interest in this product that we can verify with cash, how much will you give us to get this out the door? And since they have a record breaking Kickstarter and loads of internet buzz they will get a lot more money from the publisher than when they had a niche japanese IP that has been dead for over a decade.

You are assuming that Yu Suzuki has not been approached with offers of funding before. We do not know if he preferred to keep the funding independent and to have the fans the ones who help make the game.

Having a library of playable games when you first buy a console is pretty appealing, even if they're only last gen games.

Except this is not full BC. You won't have a library of "playable" 360 games for your Xbone. Just a handful of which all depend on what the publishers are willing to unlock. And it's pretty safe to assume they won't be unlocking titles that they're remastering as they don't want to cannibalize their own sales.

Myself and other disagree. Obviously this is only anecdotal but I know multiple people who are buying an X1 now and selling their 360s. Having a library of playable games when you first buy a console is pretty appealing, even if they're only last gen games.

It's hilarious how backwards compat has suddenly become "super niche" now that MS has announced it.

Backwards compatibility has never been interesting to me.
The only original Xbox game I got to play on my 360 was Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. And that was only because I was really into Cthulhu stuff and there was nothing else with a mythos setting available.
I got a few levels into it and never played it again. I realised I didn't want to play last gen stuff when I had new games for the 360.
Remasters at least have some upgraded stuff to make it a bit more palatable.

In the first year of the current gen consoles release I can see an argument for backwards compatibility adding value due to a limited amount of software. I can also see the value to people who don't have the disposable income to buy new games. Beyond that I imagine it's actually not a big deal at all.

All the people I know who have gone to PS4 don't care about backwards compatibility or have sold or traded in their last gen systems anyway.

I'm puzzled as to why Sony didn't focus more on their 2015 titles in their conference when they have a good lineup of 3rd and 1st party exclusives. They have God of War 3 Remastered, Tearaway Unfolded, Uncharted collection, Everyone's gone to the Rapture, Until Dawn, Dragon Quest Heroes, and Tales of Zesteria and probably a few more that I'm forgetting.

THOSE are what should have been in the conference with CoD/Star Wars book ended by Uncharted 4. Horizon, Dreams, and Last Guardian were interesting titles but they should ideally have been placed in the Paris event.

Shenmue was an extremely weird (and kind of shitty) portion of the conference given that it was for a Kickstarter and the FF7 remake basically took the wind from the SE conference's sails.

The 2 mil was a gauge to see if more than a really loud, vocal minority wanted the game. If Shenmue 3 couldn't even raise 2 mil, why would Sony and / or other partners jump in if there is clearly no interest.

The good news is fans are speaking with their wallets, and showing that there is a real audience for this game still.

So, from what the kickstarter tells me:

"Is this game affiliated with SEGA?
SEGA has officially given us the rights to use the "Shenmue" license."

It seems to me this game will be sony published.

TO me this kickstarter seems to be only a way to measure the market so Sony knows wether they should publish the game or not. They probally made a deal with Yu that they will publish the game if he reaches the stretch goal or something.

Also, probally if the kickstarter reaches a very large ammount of money, Suzuki wont need sony's money and he'll put it on the other machines aswell.

This is what I think is happening here

No Man's Sky, definitely not. Their relationship is solid that even if Sony told Hello Games to make it for Xbone, they will just say no lol.

Shenmue doesn't have Xbone listed in their Kickstarter rewards, so I doubt it.

FF7 Remake is a possibility, but I'm pretty sure Sony has stake in the original IP. Also, even thought FF15 and KH3 are slated for Xbone, all their recent announcements were absent of Xbone.

I imagine FF7 will come to PC. But I want to know if it will come to Xbox. Lots of these titles are coming to PC in some shape, but xbox is absent. Will it eventually come, or not at all?

Seems like huge exclusives for MS to miss out on

The kickstarter aspect is understandable but the relationship with Sony just makes it all very murky.

It seems like it'll hit Xbox if they're saying "Sony first", otherwise they'd claim it as console exclusive. Remaking that game is going to be a huge venture likely getting into AAA game budgets so I don't think it would be a great idea to make it a PS4 exclusive.

But then again I suppose they're also going to take into account FF15 and Kingdom Hearts 3 sales on the Xbox One as well.

So you're saying they shouldn't have dropped the three biggest bombs of E3 so they could focus on games people already know about? That's not how E3 works.

u wat now.
Sony is not taking credit for anything shenmue yet is helping making Yu's game known. They even said "it's not our announcement but theirs". They let him on the stage they paid millions upon millions for to rent. nothing shitty here.

And sony did not TAKE the wind from SE's sails; either sony is helping the funding (so the game had every right to be there) or SE wanted the game to be there to gain more awareness.

Wow, I thought the megatons would stop dropping from Sony after they announced the Holy Trifecta at their conference last night. But no. They're finally getting their own Platinum exclusive in the form of Nier. Damn, This is really becoming their biggest E3 ever.

If all PS4s are animated things and saw this year's E3, they be telling each other to enjoy their last few months of downtime as they'll all be working like slaves by 2016.

Oh I'm not saying they wont, just that anyone that does is basically on the same level as Mattrick was in 2013 as far as the gamer pulse goes.

These were the HOLY GRAILS of game announcements regardless of your interests in any individual game.

Any Gaffer knows that.
There's a difference between downplaying the Megatonx3 and denying that theyre big announcements*. The "megatonx3" can easily be downplayed;

FF7: No release date, not exclusive, only a cg trailer that showed very little.

Shenmue 3: No release date and not exclusive. It was an announcement for the kickstarter.

TLG: Looks like a PS3 game, very little gameplay shown, 2016,
ugly animal

*Big announcements as in they make a splash. They aren't holy grail announcements to someone that doesn't care. I don't care about ff so I don't consider the remake anywhere close to a holy grail announcement.

The kickstarter aspect is understandable but the relationship with Sony just makes it all very murky.

I thought Boyes said on stage they are not involved in making it, they just wanted to give it some publicity.

I see it as being very similar to the Grim Fandango remaster, which was announced in a similar way by Boyes last year. Sony is not developing or publishing, just greasing the wheels behind the scenes and generally making things happen.

Honestly PS4 is the perfect platform to release something as risky as this, not only is selling great but the brand itself is associated with FF7 and JRPG's in general. My guess would be that Sony might be getting it first through some kind of marketing/production deal and Square gets to save a "few dollars" while releasing it on the most "safe" platform. If they see there's a market for it on XBOne later they'll release it no doubt (might depend on XV's and KH3 sales).

So you're saying they shouldn't have dropped the three biggest bombs of E3 so they could focus on games people already know about? That's not how E3 works.
It should be a mix of both, they need to bring more awareness to the games they do have for 2015. For 2016 we already know that they're well loaded.

u wat now.

It's shitty because it's a weird non-committal announcement just to add another highlight to their conference.

As for the FF7 thing, it's not really an issue for me or anything I just think it would have added more punch to the SE conference rather than have it repeated there but it was undoubtedly added to the Sony conference to boost it.

Sony killed it... All of those '15 titles are already playable on the floor, plus the 3rd party titles that had exclusive ties to the system were showcased..

Where were you when The Last Guardian was announced (for the second time)? I was in a theater enjoying a 55-gallon drum of popcorn. Not pictured, but to the left: A beer. In a theater. Yay, Wisconsin!

If you're this salty that grown men aren't LOOOSING THEIR MINDS maybe just don't go to their website. All the time people bitch and moan that Giant Bomb is jaded to this shit, but this is nothing new.

If you can't get excited about your you are doing for a living then it's time to change your profession.

Just watched the conference I have to say Sony did really well with the pacing this year was not expecting them to start off so strong. Really thought Horizon would be a "one last thing" announcement/showcase.

The conferences are for new announcements and megatons. The show floor is for hands on with games coming this year. We're going to get plenty of gameplay videos of the games coming this year over the next couple days.

Wow something people care about is exciting to someone who cares and not exciting to someone who doesn't care. Mind=blown

It was a pretty good showing over all. I just wish they would have shown more games on the Indie front.

You should be watchin the Playstation live cast. It is non stop games being shown. Been watching for nearly 90 minutes and haven't seen the same trailer twice. Tons of footage of tons of games and most ste on the indie front

This is what I think is happening here

Called it

Horizon looks interesting as hell and GG have proven that they can develop an amazing world with a great back story (Killzone universe has fantastic lore although much of it didn't make it into the games). I hope Horizon's lore makes it into the game.

The rest of the stuff was not interesting at all for me.

Out of curosity (i do have the full version):

No word regarding the ps+ Driveclub version? #duck
Or did they officially canceled it?

My god this E3 will be remembered for years to come...
Not to sound greedy or anything after all we got but has there been any word on Level-5's game yet?

Ergonomics of the sticks? Please explain what you mean.
