Steam Summer Sale 2015 thread of refunding everything you buy (June 11-21)

It's not just you. Those of us who have followed Steam sales long enough can recognize that games aren't being discounted as much as they used to be and as fast after release as they used to be.

Yea, it often takes 3-4 sale cycles before the games I want are in my price bracket. I'd say it's publisher/developer resistance to the whole "Steam" sales model of heavy discounting. If you could maintain the same level of sales but at 2 or 3 times your usual discount price, then why not?

Wtf is going on in my Steam game's room? Its on level 11,695 or so and it started up later than the game of someone on my friend's list which is at 3600.

That's cute.

Yep, you'll either love it or you'll hate it. More of an experience than a game imo, but gets a worse rap then it deserves.

Are you confusing it with Gone Home? Because Grow Home got fantastic reviews and has an 'overwhelmingly positive' rating on Steam.

Yeah. I really miss the 8 hour flash/community sales. It was a lot more fun to follow. Consistent excitement. This is just so slow, and I know I have time when it comes to ever game. No such thing as an impulse buy anymore.

Tempted to buy Grow Home, anybody played it? Thoughts?
The game rests on its climbing mechanics. If you think you'd enjoy that then pick it up. Be warned that it has its own jank, but it's interesting enough to bear it imo. The art isn't as special as it would like to think it is. At times it's stunning, but at other times it can feel lazy. Can't really hold that against it too hard because it is a low budget game. But there are other games out there which pull off low poly aesthetics without feeling that way. I hope I don't sound too down on it because it was one of the nicest things I've played all year.

I don't because now we a) have many more games on sale anyway and b) there are zero repeats. Those really dragged down the sales before winter (when the 12hrs thing got implemented). Also the community consistently voted for games that have been cheap(er) already many times. Glad that's gone.

Is there a reliable way to get a third card drop from the clicker game? I've tried creating/joining a new game after a while but I'm still stuck at 2 per day and I get both of those pretty much immediately.

Is it just me or have the sales so far in general been underwhelming?

there are some great deals on older games. so if you were a console only gamer last gen (like myself), you can play anything you missed in it's full 1080p/60 for a couple of bucks which is awesome

the discounts on newer stuff is pretty much non-existent in comparsion

There really isn't a "reliable" way. We just know joining a game, joining a friends game, passing level 10, and neither are surefire.

Is the Ultra SF4 upgrade also on super sale? I can't really tell because it's not in the group when I click it. Ugh.

Yeah. It's 7.50 CAD for the upgrade at 50% off. Ends in 19h and some.

what happened to getting cards for purchases? before it would tell me how close i am, or how many cards i'll be getting during checkout.

now it mentions nothing

Bah I've tried all those over the days and nothing. It's weird how immediate the first two cards are but the third is so elusive.

You can check on the badge page. Click "How do I earn card drops?" on the top right.

So if I were to get into Total War, outside of Attila because my wallet isn't that great and I'd like to buy some other things later on, which one would you all suggest? Friend's have pointed at Shogun 2, but there's two of 'em. The only game I've played of the genre lately is Civ V.

I have the same question if anyone can answer, I love Roman history so Rome 2 appeals to me, any recommendations?

I see the key to quick progression in the Steam clicker game is to use the Wormhole on each 100th level.

None. 2 different titles from the pack have already been up as false dailies. It'll be at the same price all sale. It is a great deal despite this.

So, I'm about to pull the trigger on Neptunia 1 and 2. Is the DLC for either game worth getting while I'm at it?

Nope, feel the same way.

The more sales you go through, the more underwhelming they are.

Really? I have 2,305 games and think the sale has been excellent. Many of the prices are the lowest they have ever been.

It could be more that the majority of what I want hasn't shown up yet, and I'll change my mind later on. I'm also not very into this meta game.

Well I've only bought one game so far....was kinda hoping newer titles would show up. Maybe being a PC gamer for 3 years now it's no longer as exciting?

Don't agree with not increasing the mana bar, some of those spells at end game are mana intensive.

Best advice I would give is make a caster Cleric for the back row. His late game mass buff spells are gamesaving. He's a crappy caster early on, but becomes godlike at the end.

Not grindy that you have to grind to level, but grindy that there are just so many packs that you can't really avoid, it felt like a bit of a grind.

I mean, you're right about that mana, but since this is one of those phase-less, "more SPD = More Turns" form of turn-based combat, SPD is beyond useful, and there are an electric shitton of enemies that reach that back row and hit them HARD necessitating points in HP. It's almost like many single-row JRPGs that way; there are no "squishies" and everyone tanks.

It's just an amazingly odd and different game with wild RPG mechanics and economy. I really wanna try out that Pally+Bard build on my next go at it so my guys are like this:

Cheers on the giveaway. I entered, that'd be quite a get.

As for the sales today, nothing I'm really jumping at that I don't have. Might pick up FFIV because why not own it on like 8 systems.

Been one for 15 years, it's always been exciting. Except for that time where GFW was a thing and Steam was a nuisance instead of this place where we get awesome deals.

Fucking Payday 2 DLC, man...

There are a fuckton, an overwhelming amount looking at all them now but there are few that are straight upgrades. Most are interesting weapons to play around with. I still use the base and free weapons on most of setups. Heists you can play for free if someone who owns it hosts the game and you can be randomly assigned as another character as well.

The only ones I would say are significantly game changing is the Shotgun pack for HE rounds since they can stun enemies like Bulldozers and the Courier Pack which adds some significant mods that can help weapons become more viable. I'd say all are worth it at a ~dollar each but Payday 2 goes on sale more often than just the two big sales a year so you don't lose much by waiting it out.

edit: I forgot about the GotY pack. That's definitely worth it. Don't worry about the DLC not in there. I haven't even picked those up until today. They'll be on sale later again.
