Transformers Devastation (Platinum Games) - First gameplay from IGN

The less any game is like W101 the better.

My problem with W101 is strangely the lack of action and when there is action it's overly restricted.

I enjoy the fighting against enemies I stand a chance against when fighting normally. But all too often you go on too much platforming, or on rails shooter levels, or giant enemies you have to do specific sequences against (basically QTE), etc.

I love Platinum and I love the actual action of W101 but I'm finding it hard to continually get back to it and finish. I'm only 5 hours in and it's like 15 hours or something.

EDIT: I know this isn't a W101 thread. I think Transformers looks bad ass.

YES! So glad this is coming out in our time. NEVER thought any company would have the balls to go back to G1 designs (the only designs that matter). The Transformers game we all need!

My impressions of the footage from the previous thread:

Looks fucking great. The seamless chaining of transformations in the combos, dodging, etc is fantastic. I think the only concern left would be level design - everything shown so far looks more like a basic arena brawler rather than stages with proper interesting level design like Bayonetta and MGR. They've definitely nailed the combat and the animations. Even if it's just an arena brawler, the boss fights should be a lot fun. :)

Yep, early screen looked cool, but this footage looks awesome. Seems very funny. I agree about the level design concern, but I guess we'll just have to see.

So.. BEYOND HYPED that this is coming to PC. I almost never pre-order games but one of my favorite devs with my favorite franchie of all time? Bet your ass I'll have this game on Day 1.

Oh hell yes, this looks great.

I hope we get some great boss fights. Korra was sorely lacking those.

Come to think of it, Korra lacked boss fights in general.

Well we've seen Soundwave. But I hope this game really fleshes out the Decepticons when you fight them. Expecting Rising-tier bosses with a TW101-scale fight with Unicron hopefully won't be setting the bar too high

Yup they had more than shoot outs. The problem I have is that they were never amazing combo chaining fighters like we see in this game. Bumblebee couldn't get a 50-hit combo on Megatron and Optimus wouldn't dare take on Devastator in a fist fight.

Yeah, Bumblebee would get slapped silly by Megatron; the fact that he's one of the only-five playable characters is one of the few disappointments for me. Does anyone actually like that character? It's a strange choice given that he was one of the weakest Autobots.

It feels weird to see Autobots doing Street Fighter moves, but it's not terrible. The car mode in that footage feels off though. They have no weight, no physics. If Optimus drives full-bore into Starscream, he should at least be knocked back, if not thrown into a wall.

Soundwave and the cassettes look amazing though.

Closer to 20. It never ends.

It remains the only PG game (other than Madworld which I don't own) that I never replayed. All the other games I've played through at least 3 times, some even more.

Yup, still a day one buy. Can't wait.

Hopefully the references to IDW aren't just lip service, but I feel like it probably is.

What did I say in the other thread? Platinum maintains its luster forever goddammit!

HIGH SPEED MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE CLIMAX ACTION™

game looks sick

Amazing. All of my childhood memories came rushing back in a torrent of grateful, happy tears.

The only thing that felt completely off was Bumblebee going toe to toe with Megatron, and Optimus Prime straight up against Devastator. That ain't canon.

They took robot performance enhancers.

He's probably the second most popular Autobot right? Possibly third under Grimlock. Not surprising he's in, and I like him well enough. :)

Definitely I think a really faithful G1 game in regards to the rules and physics of the world could be amazing (and I'm sure in a bunch of those old 80's episodes the rules and physics are not consistent), but for what it is this game looks like a good time. And we certainly don't have much choice when it comes to new G1 games, showing support now could get that game made.
I know it's unlikely. Let me dream!

This is like getting the modern day equivalent of the awesome licensed brawlers from the 90s like TMNT, X-Men, Cadillacs & Dinosaurs, etc.

Holy shit, who owns the TMNT license currently? Somebody get Platinum on that.

This is like the stuff I dream about.

It's nice for dreams to come true.

Totally. Totally totally totally.

It's awesome.

The settings look a little uninspired, but the action and character design is definitely excellent. And super stoked that they have Peter Cullen and Frank Welker doing voices!

I got to operation 007 and gave up. Overall, I like the game, but it wore me the fuck out. I'm done mang.

On the other hand, I've beaten Metal Gear Rising start-to-finish like 7 or 8 times, so I think shorter Platinum games may gel better with me.

I think around 10-12 hours is the max you can go while still maintaining the quality and not reusing too much stuff for your average PG experience (like Bayonetta 1 and 2).

W101 was 20 hours long, and although I haven't timed it or anything, I'm pretty sure that at least 5 hours were purely shooter/minigame/gamepad-fuckery sections. The game is also littered with QTEs, and dumb puzzle-type sections that kill the pacing. Kamiya had zero self-restraint, I just hope he does for Scalebound.

Bumblebee has a Tatsu:

He can also slide between an enemy's legs:

It has original sounds! It's like playing the cartoon!

Want it in my veins right now. I think I will actually pay full retail for this, it looks boss as hell. And I could introduce my nephews to OG Transformers.

Is this Xbox and PC only?

It's an Activision game, so PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.

God, it looks so gloriously chunky. Look at the way Prime actually lands on that dude; he doesn't just clip through him, he actually looks like a truck dropping onto a great big metal robot.

The trailer and gameplay struck me as 'eh it'll be a simple brawler, not expecting much.'

Then I saw this and saw him kicking dudes off with launchers and shooting them out of hte sky and all this glorious mixing of Metal Gear Rising and Warhammer Space Marine and was instantly sold.
