Valve didn't accepted PC Gamer's invite to PC Gamer Show

PC Gamer's assistant editor Tom Marks said that during his Post PC Gaming Show Twitch stream. He said that PC Gamer invited Valve and they didn't accepted their invite.

Considering Valve has new products like SteamOS, Steam Machines, Steam Controller, HTC Vive(dev kit) and Source Engine 2(and ofc games!) that will show up later this year I think they will make their special event this year. What do you thinking GAF?

PS: Ups I just submitted and forgot change title. Its "PC Gaming Show" lol.

I think less poorly on the PC Gamer Show after hearing this. It's fucking Valve. The year of Last Guardian, FF7 R & Shenmue 3 and Valve didn't have the decency to announce Half Life 3. Shameful & inconsiderate.

If they had accepted then the whole conference would have been built around the expectation of Half Life 3.

I don't blame Valve for dodging that kind of pressure.

Valve doesn't need to appear at a show to advertise things as they can advertise at that storefront they have installed on millions of computers.

I don't think it's very sportsmanlike. Even if they don't have much to show, it's a community, like it or not. Come to the show, do a stupid 5 minute demo with your new controller or something like that, be a good guy. Not that hard.

But as of the last 5 or so years, Valve has really made it a mission to hammer home their independence and their liberation from "traditional" PC games and release cycles, so I guess it's not really a surprise.

Valve seems to do their own stuff outside of the rest of the industry now so yeah, not surprised. I hope they'll do something this year alongside the Steam Machines release to show new games.

Pretty much. DOTA2 Reborn, Source 2 and Hammer will be taking the spotlight in the near future, likely this week. They weren't about to spill the beans on that today.

We'll probably hear more about their other projects while the International 5 is under way.

They will have to have their own event for everything coming g in November but I don't understand when they can fit that in with everything else they are doing.

Also Sean said "everyone we asked said yes" so this now contradicts that.

They rejected it because there would be unnecessary pressure on them to announce something aka HL3 which they don't want to do.

But they have tons of stuff coming out regarding their entire platform, which considering that, would've not been a bad idea to participate in this in some way.

Half Life 3 would be really out of place at that conference.

I'll agree with this, the tone was a lot more intimate and relaxed than I expected. Even so, they should have just dropped by as some kind of egalitarian gesture. They're a major player in the PC world (understatement) and with their whole new Steam hardware push, they do have stuff to show.

If Valve had shown up, people would just expect something they weren't going to get. Better that they stay home and not raise hopes.

This probably sounds a lot more cynical than I intend, but Valve doesn't have to try and placate fans at events like this anymore. They have the ever-growing Steam ecosystem and games with really perfected core gameplay, like Dota 2 and CS: GO, that are popular in emerging markets and have a lot of room for monetization. They don't really care if people on the Internet are frustrated with them because the data (money) indicates that what they're doing is "right."

Makes sense for Valve, then they'd actually be forced to talk about anything at all they're up to on a time table other than their own. Plus, they wouldn't have to deal with people screaming "When's HL3" during their entire segment.

It's not exactly surprising. They won't show up to anything until they have a game to announce, and then they'll have their own event.

People would have eaten them alive if they showed up and didn't announce a game, so I don't blame them really, if they have something they want to announce (hardware or software wise) they'll probably just drop it or have their own event.

LOL, thats like pocketarcade inviting apple to announce something at their event.

Is Marc Laidlaw still at Valve?

There has been nothing from Valve in the last 5 years to suggest that the principals behind Half Life still want to work on the series at this point. Let alone however many of them have already moved on from the company.
