• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

You won $500 mil, what longshot game sequel would you finance w/$50 mil of it?

Retro Studios for a 2D Metroid.

So not only will people shut up about Retro not doing good Metroid, I'll also get a 2D Metroid to boot.

I'm probably in the minority when I say this, but The Bouncer 2. The first one had so much potential and it was pretty good, but it was on the short side (and it had other issues, but I'm not gonna go into those). Still, I loved it and I still play it to this day (just for kicks).

Duke Nukem Forever and Ever

I got my new Wolfenstein games, I got my new Doom games. The only thing I need is a new Duke game and nostalgia is complete.

1. Buy the No Mercy engine from AKI
2. Have a small group of developers tweak it, HD'ify the graphics a bit, and add a create-a-wrestler
3. Release it on XBLA/PSN
4. Profit.

I'd invest.

Also, Psychonauts 2.

EDIT: Dang. Too late on the Psychonauts. Are you listening, Schafer?!?!?!

Wizardry 9. SirTech Canada reformed.

Though honestly 50M$ is too much. Bad psychology. If you commit to that kind of budget, you'll get a huge team where nobody knows andyone and they'll produce grandiose, overbearing things just to burn all that cash away.

I'd give them 20M$ at first, but would be extra lenient when/if they run over.

Considering how old this thread is, I probably aready posted the exact same thing.

Holy shit, Mega Man Legends 3.

Took long enough for that to be mentioned.

According to an interview, a hypothetical MML3 was one of the reasons Capcom built their MT Framework engine on which all their current gen games have been developed. Keiji Inafune himself said he only needed $15mil to make the game.

I would probably just invest it all and then live off the interest--could buy all the games I want so I'd be happy from a gaming perspective.

Anyone who thinks that putting $50m into a dream game project is a good idea just has no idea how brutal the market is right now and how hard it is to turn a profit.

$50m is enough to build the game, that's all that matters, you have $500m, you don't need to worry about making any money back or anything.

I would use some of the Money for an XBLA/PSN 2D Turrican Game made by Manfred Trenz and Factor 5 with Music from Chris Huelsbeck.

It's a shame that Manfred Trenz only works on Games like Germanys Next Top Model or Meine Tierarztpraxis (Pet Vet) for the DS.

Since Planescape, Freespace and other win has been mentioned, I'd go with:

Vampire: Bloodlines

Probably not a direct sequel, but a spinoff of the same vein. OR, and more likely, do something with the Werewolf world they have.

I would give all $500 mil to finance at least three Beyond Oasis sequels.

But, playing by the rules, just one Beyond Oasis sequel.

A sequel to Chrono Cross. Get Kato to do the story scenario and Mitsuda to do the soundtrack and you're set for a fuck awesome game.

I'm going to echo the first page replies of Jet Grind Radio. But it would have to be more like the original game and less like the mediocre sequel, Jet Set Radio Future.

RalliSport Challenge 3

And I shall donate a little more for Cannon Fodder to make its way to XBLA.

ToeJam and Earl Turbo HD Remix for XBLA/PSN

  • Online and local co-op
  • Level editor with the ability to share your creations
  • Increase the number of elements to make the randomized levels more varied
It wouldn't take anywhere near $50MM to do, but it's something I'd love to see since Sega is in re-releasing mood. I was disappointed it was included in any form in Sonic's UGC.
