Batman: Arkham Knight - Review Thread

edit: For those who simply assume (as I did) that DSP is being a reactionary jerk about the review, he's not. He basically says "If you read the review it's totally reasonable and a 7 is a fine score, good but not great". Never thought I'd see the day.

I skipped around in the video and yes, even though he says that in the beginning, he double backs on this statement multiple times in the video, calling out the reviewer, Gamespot and people that critizise the fact that people disagree with the review solely based on hype. It's a highly inconsistent video.

welp. That's what I get for not watching the whole thing but I don't think I can take 30 minutes of raw DSP.

KVO's criticism can be boiled down to "batmobile feels forced," "more of the same." Neither of these things should be a surprise to a rational mind who's watched the pre-release videos. What were they expecting exactly?

Who? If you're talking about 'KVO' it's clear he was hoping it would be something more than a tacked on feature that isn't fun.

That USGamer review has a potentially big spoiler inference in the first paragraph. I'm not sure if I'm reading it correctly or not - and don't want confirmation - but might recommend avoiding.

e: and it provides a huge hint toward AK's identity, stay far away from that review. c'mon Mike!

I generally loathe DSP but I watched a few minutes on this and it seems... nuanced and reasonable?? What a crazy world we live in.

Huh, really? Ok maybe I'll watch.

Edit: God damn it.

I meant the people outraged by his 7. No one had any reason to expect that this game would be more than a prettier "more of the same" unless they ignored all pre-release materials, and "more of the same" doesn't deserve 9s and 10s.

Got to be honest I never really cared for the concept of the Batmobile. Arkham games do the "stealthy Batman on a rooftop waiting to pounce" Batman so well, I have no desire to go tearing through the city in a tank.

These are actually the reasons why i'm not very excited.
I loved Arkham City, but doesn't seem to add anything significant.

Which is fine, unless you have some franchise fatigue, like i have.

Game was cheap enough on Nuuvem though, so no biggie.

It would be interesting if it were a true open world game ala GTA, and you had civilian traffic/police etc on the roads to navigate through. But when it's just the usual closed off arenas filled with goons.. seems really pointless.

Arkham city added quite a bit so expecting the next main entry to expand on the core gameplay is a reasonable expectation.

What Arkham City added was discernible from pre-release videos. Watching Arkham Knight videos, seeing a game that looks basically the same as the others, and then expecting it to deliver a whole bunch of extra gameplay from out of nowhere is silly. Even if you do expect that, if a reviewer plays the game and then says "yeah there's nothing really new here" it's certainly no reason to blow a fuse.

The incident Golgo 13 is referring to was 8 years ago as well. He's talking about the first(!) Assassins Creed game where Ubi set the review embargo based on the score an outlet would give. That was a long damn time ago and I don't think I've heard of it happening since hten.

It happened with Arkham Asylum, Tomb Raider Underworld, Dragon Age, Assassin's Creed... You could say it mostly happens with early mag reviews and not website based reviews but it happens. A quick Google search will do wonders... . But like the 5 star free Hawaii preview and review events, I am not seeing it going away soon. I am not implying its the Arkham Knight's case though.

The way I look at is that the Tank combat is one part of a much bigger game, and everything else in the game seems to be great like the other games, so I can deal with a little bit of repetitiveness and outside of the Tank sections most people seem to enjoy the driving parts, so the Batmobile is not a total fail, just a slight stumble when in Tank mode.

Looking forward to playing this on my new Sony 55" 4K TV, gonna look sweet on the big screen.

Will the day one patch automatically download and install like my preorder will?

I don't want to launch the game at midnight just to get a prompt saying I can't use online features until the patch is installed. That would be dumb

As someone who has never played a any of the previous games in the series, I think I'm in for a treat. The more of the same complaint are not a factor for me

Online features? What online features?
