Splatoon |OT2| Prepare to Dye

Having three defense up has seemingly allowed me to escape otherwise deadly situations. It was my go-to anti-aerospray gear. I assume the tests there only take direct hits into account.

blasters are really neat. It kind of sucks using them with my current connection, but great fun. I need the range blaster now
now, time to learn bunny hopping

Attack up is the difference between surviving and destroying a charger user in close range (Inkbrush user here for reference) or getting one shot at barely half charge (which comes very quickly in a lot of situations). For that reason alone I respect the buff, especially with chargers becoming more popular in the GAF meta.

Rollers (not brushes), Chargers, Blasters, and L-3 Nozzlenose benefit from Damage Up.

The .52 Gal also benefits in the sense that if someone else is using Defense Up, it can still 2-shot them.

Why not brushes and why L-3 Nozzlenose?

Blasters are the first thing I aim for when I play a charger. Good luck making the range blaster work.

Edit: Thought you meant rapid blaster. :< I doubt range blaster still OHKOs though

"Seemingly" yes. Sure, there are some rare situations where it can help, but why wouldn't I use something that's actual useful?

Finally got back to B after dropping hard to C+. It was a long climb up. Aiming for B+ tomorrow.

.96 gal is awesome for me right now. Great defensive weapon and has netted me 10+ kills every game.

Yeah, I think those certainly benefit the most from it. I always go damage up with blaster because my play isn't solid enough for a quick OHKO. If I miss the first shot, I have to get that second one in or I'm dead. Being able to get that extra damage from splash around corners and overhead also seems pretty useful there.

I had to play out of my mind to break into B proper after a long series of de-ranks left me at low C+. I'm not looking forward to the B & B+ metagames especially if the stage rotation doesn't play fair with me.

The Rapid Blaster definitely works. It's funny how I used to think it sucks, but now I think it is good, but sucks when the enemy is at close range.
Why not brushes and why L-3 Nozzlenose?
The benefit for the rollers is that it can one-shot you from a bit further away. Brushes don't have that and it doesn't mean an early kill unless the enemy is in your color ink which doesn't happen often while using a brush.

The L-3 Nozzlenose on the other hand can potentially get a one burst kill if the enemy is in your color ink which can happen regularly since the Nozzlenose has pretty long range and can easily cover the feet of the enemy. It's just the weapon sucks all around lol.
I did already, but the lack of one-hit kills makes them less satisfying and they have no bubble
Normal Rapid Blaster has a bubble.

Spyke did this for me, I thank him.

You'll never max aim your charger again!

I think using that criteria a lot of the weapons would benefit from damage up because a lot of them are capped at the limit where it's just 1 damage away from one less hit kill.

I personally think Nozzlenose is fine. Running fast while still hitting your target isn't the easiest so it has a higher skill cap. Definitely place it way higher than rapid blaster any day. :P

My weapon of choice, I think it's the best all around weapon in the game period. I only get in trouble when the opponent has managed to come close range, then it gets a little tricky considering it has very low firerate, so it's hard to connect two shots on someone who is skilled at movement, but the key is to not let them get close in the first place.

This is something I still struggle with with the dual squelcher. It can be good offensively in some situations but other times it needs to be strictly supportive/defensive. Too many times I'll rush ahead and end up in a close range shootout with an aerospray or splat-o-matic user that I can't hope to win

I hate you!! That added range you have is sooo annoying lol. My playstyle switches to aggressive whenever I see a squelcher user.

I almost dropped out of C+ before climbing up to B lol. Luckily, the stages right now seem to favor me, plus having really good teammates that really know how to play their roles.

This. It's become my first choice of weapon, truthfully.

It's not really my weapon of choice due to its ridiculous ink usage but I'd trade away ink efficiency for better damage and range in splat zones.

Why you have to disappoint me like that fam?

The Echolocator helps when a certain ninja's creeping up on you trying to brush your ass up tho.

Yeah, it uses ink like crazy. I got splatted one too many times because of having no ink left to defend myself.

Got this last week and have been really enjoying it. Got to level 16 so far, but I'm still learning the basics.

Any tips for someone who can't really twitch aim? Yesterday I used Ninja squid with splattershot or krak-on roller, and did pretty well. Normally in turf war I tend to run to wherever there is enemy ink and then I usually end up either just splattered or trading splats. I guess I should play more tactically, but I feel I'm wasting time if I'm not painting the ground all the time.

Basic tip: Always rush to the center. Always. Even in turf wars.

Advanced tip: Staying alive, even if you have to retreat or circle around, is better than standing your ground trading splats.

Expert tip: Waste their time. Having 2-3 enemies chasing after you or pinning you down somewhere is perfectly fine. Hopefully your team is still active and can gain control while the enemy is busy with you.

Tell that to my teammates today. :P

Like 10 matches (feels like 20) and it's my teammates either dropping the ball or us scrapping it at the last minute.

Thanks!

I always rush to the middle to paint at least. Maybe I should value my life more too. Once the arena is more or less painted, does it make more sense to pair up with a team mate for more firepower or is spreading out to cover more ground always better?

Nothing like Blackbelly Skatepark and Bluefin Depot to make you appreciate Kelp Dome and Walleye Warehouse.

The levels are small so it's easy to get into the battle again.

Bluefin suffers from you having to be pretty close to the zone to battle and the fact it is Asynchronous.

Blackbelly suffers from if you have a bad team, you ain't getting the 2 zones.

Are you fucking kidding me? Comm errors drop your rank by 10 fucking points?

4 comm errors in a row and I'm back to C+. Fuck this game, that's bullshit

I feel like you can actually switch the Advanced tip for the Expert tip honestly. You have no idea how valuable it is to waste the opposing team's time. As much as I way prefer being active in fights and for as much as I get salty because of silliness like GAF teaming up on me, getting to a point where it takes two to three people actively going out of their way to pincer attack me made me realize that playing my cards right, I could really sway things in the team's favor. It feels kinda good in a bittersweet way.

you realize that they cant tell if you intentionally cut your network for a comm error. If it wasn't treated the same as a loss, then you could just DC every game you are about to lose. If you are getting comm errors, dont play ranked.

The problem is when the game doesnt even start, and you get penalized anyways.
Last week I was getting lots of connection errors and lost 30 points in a row, never got to control my character in any match

I don't understand how many people have said this in this thread, it's like they've never played any type of online multiplayer, even if it's not a ranking system most games will count it as a loss if you disconnect from the match, there is no possible way they can know that you didn't disconnect on purpose. If I disconnect two times in a row or within a short period of time in ranked then I will just stop playing it and go to turf wars, it's not worth the loss in points. A system like this sucks when you actually disconnect, but it beats the losing team pretending to disconnect every time

I personally don't understand why Nintendo thinks it's a good idea to punish people who DC when their own servers are not up to par. I could understand if they were perfect then yes but they're not.

It's not punishing people, it's keeping the game fair. How do you even qualify if a person has stable connections or not. You can't run a test and have complete authority that a person has a stable connection. If there was, networking in general would be a hell lot easier. Plus I'm pretty sure there's no central server when a game starts, it's just P2P.

Reading the replies above, they never got any games started yet were punished for being hit with a com error. There should be a cut-off point that once the match begins then if you get dc'd you lose points, the waiting screen should not be that point.

Yeah improvements can be made, but you actually only lose only one point if you lost and your team was unbalanced before the game starts. While far more unlikely, people can also see people that they know on the opposing team and decide to pull the plug before the game starts thus avoiding the penalty. This point is stretching it but it still is a valid point.

Anyone else in the EU been having some major lag and connection issues? Remember someone mentioning network maintenance so wondering if that's still ongoing (and a possible cause).

I have such a love hate relationship with Kelp Dome.

It's tied for my favorite alongside BlackBelly Skatepark. Sometimes I forget to paint the top of the center platform in Splat Zones though.

As for comm errors, if I get one I don't play ranked until I can play a few Turf Wars in a row flawlessly.

I still don't understand the whole "rush to the middle" thing. People act like if you don't gain control of the middle at the start its game over. I don't know how many games have been won/lost to taking/losing the middle in the last 20 seconds.
