Bungie apologizes for Taken King controversy, CE items to be sold separate

Considering the sales and general positive opinion of Destiny, I feel like a stronger case could be made that we are disconnected ;)

Not really. A company taking advantage of the desirability of its product when it comes to pricing expansions is not "us" being out of touch.

Let me get this straight - this "massive" expansion is $40, or 2/3 the cost of the full game, and then some emotes and shaders are $20, or 1/2 the cost of the entire expansion?

Did I miss something? So to get the expansion AND the CE content you're paying $60, aka the same price as the full game?
this is a correct summary of the situation.

Keep in mind the first two expansions were $20 each. Bungie must not think highly of the content of their expansions when they're equal value to some class items, shaders and dance moves.

Thinking a leaked image would remain 100% true was your first mistake.

Give me a break. Everyone assumed expansions came with a Raid. They didn't even announce it would not have a Raid until a month before release. I get it, you like the game but cmon now. They have not done ONE consumer friendly thing since release and that PLANNED Raid was held back. That leaked image was a presentation, not some photoshop dude somewhere.

Here the graph about the previous issue.

Now it is fixed.

What is the other issue? The overpriced? I don't see this like a issue at all... it is like to say iPhone is overpriced compared with Android phones.

See my edit.

YOU may be paying $60

Everyone else outside of the US is paying $94.

Yep, except new players can pay $80 for the base game and all expansions + emotes and shaders.

The new player entry seems like a decent price considering everything that's in there, to be honest. Oddly, it's the loyal existing players who get fucked

I didn't think of it like that. Good LORD.

For the record - I don't play the game, I traded it in around Christmas. But I keep thinking about picking it back up with all the new content, however shit like this makes it REALLLY hard to justify that.

This is the final nail in the coffin for me. I feel like a chump for having bought the DLC pass ahead of knowing what would actually be in it, and reading about this fiasco, coupled with the Batman mess and other shady shit going on in videogame land, I will no longer be pre-ordering, or paying for beta / early access in general. I feel like I have been part of the problem for a while now, but this stuff with Bungie / Activision has brought everything into focus. Shame on me for being a sheep. My hobby deserves more. I have been into video games since the Commodore Vic-20. I need to be part of the solution, not the problem. Wiping Destiny from my PS4. I'm out.

Did you honestly come on here to type that? Nothing better to do on a Wednesday night than complain about DLC for a title you don't even care for, eh? You're going to fit in well here along with all the others who cried to the heavens of the social injustice of their being denied emotes, class items and shaders. Items they were apparently owed for playing a videogame.

The hundreds of hours of entertainment (even over a thousand for some of us) we've gleamed from Destiny for less than a hundred bucks (including both TDB and HoW), that's all well and good... but what have you done for me lately, Bungie?

And so they listened. And when try to give those who screamed to the stars what they asked for at a meager cost?

"How dare I be asked to pay for this, I am outraged, sir... OUTRAGED!"

Sadly, Bungie can't win with many of you. If you're so offended, if you're this entitled, maybe just don't buy TTK?
oh wow

this is some hilarious corporate ass-kissing.

so 40 dollars the price of a new game, for 1 new location and like 13 missions? then 20 dollars on top of that for colors, dances, class items.

Goodbye Destiny, we had a good run, I enjoyed my time collecting my Ghorn and Hawkmoon, but this is where we part ways.

People who comes into threads to dump on the original release of Destiny when they have no interest in it are dumb.

People who are willing to white knight for a $20 DLC pack of emotes and shaders - the same price as a full-fledged expansion - are toxic.

A "meager cost". $20 for a handful of shaders, emotes, and three pieces of gear...

It doesn't matter if you felt The Dark Below or House of Wolves were worth $10, $20, $40, $100. Whatever you or any gamer individually feels they are worth, the fact is they were priced at $20. That was Bungie and Activision's evaluation.

Bungie and Activison are now trying to tell us that a handful of shaders, emotes, and gear are worth that exact same amount. A handful of shaders, emotes, and gear are allegedly worth the same as a handful of shaders, dozens of pieces of armor and guns, new missions, new strikes, and either a new raid or a battle arena.

It's fucking ludicrous. And you have to know it.

And don't bother replying, "Well don't buy it." That bridge was approached and passed hours ago. Everyone understands the act of voting with wallets. That will happen here, for better or worse.

But that doesn't mean we should stay silent at absurd value proposition Bungie and Activision are proposing here.

They need to offer the pack for $5 or free, or throw a hell of a lot more in it, and they need to do it fast. It's just a flabbergasting insult to do otherwise.

Yeah that's some Red Bullshit right there. What were they thinking. They priced it exactly the same as the launch game and are still talking about how it's between a DLC and full game in scope. They didn't even try to hide it. I wish they'd fix that...

$20 for some dance animations and shaders? I just can't even...

This is how you apologize? Do they not realize how ridiculous this seems to the outsider?

Assuming usually ends in disappointment. That image was never meant for public consumption, and things change in game development all of the time.

You do not know that the raid was purposefully held back. What if it wasn't ready? What if it sucked? Release it anyway, and get shredded for it not being good? They instead brought a decent horde like mode into the game, which it was sorely lacking.

This has nothing to do with me liking or disliking the game. There are parts I love, and parts I absolutely loathe, I just try to keep everything in perspective and have a level head when discussing shit. I think you could agree that I do the same in Halo threads. I've never been on to lose my shit over a game, if something bothers me, I simply don't purchase it or support it.

In this particular case, yea, $20 for the emotes and shaders is a really bad value. They set themselves up though with the CE, as most of the shaders/class items are a part of the physical CE to add value to it, and if you devalue them, then you're asking people to pay $80 for a Strange Coin replica and a journal.

Again... you needn't purchase the emotes, shaders and exotic class items Bungie is now offering you outside of the collector's edition. You do understand that this is an optional standalone purchase, correct?

If the exclusive items, including the first exotic class items in this series, aren't worth $20 to you... then simply pass. And if it's that "toxic" and "insulting," perhaps it's time to pre-order the next Call of Duty instead?

This fucking company... this team...

Their hubris is just off the charts.

It's really too bad that the core game mechanics are so good. As are the art and sound direction.

This could have been bigger than WoW, but they completely fucked it and continue down a path of shameless greed. It's really disappointing to watch.

Maybe they'll get their act together for Destiny 2, but I think it's unlikely at this point.

When Bungie offers shit on a platter, people aren't obliged to enjoy it.

Oh, certainly... I must have missed the bit in the update that noted all guardians mandatory direct debits from their accounts as well as the smiles they must wear to Oryx's grand reception.

So, let me get this right:
-The 'Taken King' expansion is going to be 20 bucks now
-The 'Collectors' Items are also 20 bucks
-Working out pricing systems for all buyers

....I think I might be wrong about the price drop for the 'Taken King' Expansion but are they really going to sell those emote things for 20 bucks :l? That.....doesn't solve the problem; they are things that should be in the core content of the expansion to begin with :(.

Not a huge fan of this series, so not my place to talk about the game, but this sounds like instead of saying "I'm sorry for upsetting you man. Here, we are offering these things as a 5-10 dollar upgrade now", they are really saying "Oh, so you DON'T want to pay premium to experience our game? That's fine. Give us 20 bucks."

At least they commented on peoples frustrations though :l. Better then nothing I suppose....

I like how "Why do loyal players who have played since day 1 have to repurchase content that we already own for shaders, emotes, and emblems?" turned into "Why do loyal players who have played since day 1 have to buy these shaders, emotes, and emblems?"

Because they are shaders. emotes and emblems and $20 is ridiculous for it. Frankly, the people that stuck around for Destiny's very rough start and kept up a large community deserve an extra perk like that.

Most people didn't expect the cost for the shaders, emotes and emblems to be the same as a full DLC expansion.

While it seems the internet has them back peddling, they seemed to have tripped in the process. $20 for 9 items? I was thinking more around $10, so a $49.99 price point for those who had all the content but wanted the TTK & CE digital goodies.

I'm a littles angry now about the situation but I'm still out. No clue how they could be this clueless. Seems the developers (Bungie) are so disconnected from what it really means to be a gaming consumer, because none of them should want this.

I do understand they need to make a profit and pay themselves, and I rightfully think they should be paid and paid well for success, but not like this. I would feel so dirty knowing the money in my check came from this.

Also... The karma of jumping ship from Microsoft for this... I bet that $60 Halo 3 ODST debacle looks like a gem compared to this.

Just because you can do something, and people will pay for it, doesn't make it right.

I personally won't be touching anything to do with this game after getting burned with the base game and season pass, but they built a game based around loot, and I've seen what addiction can do to a man. Just look at Brad Shoemaker.

I think asking a customer who will have shelled out $140 on your content bare game for $20 more isn't the smoothest move, as an apology.

"Why do I have to pay for something I already own?" almost immediately changed into "Why do I have to pay for something?" There are some people who won't be happy until this stuff is free, and there are others who won't be happy even then and they'll just move on to harping about something else in a game they don't play and have "deleted" 5 times.
