Wait, who's the fourth one. Clarence Thomas is one guy.
I'm not American but why wasn't this done before?
Why was it state by state before?
US is a republic
Roberts:
"If you are among the many Americans--of whatever sexual orientation--who favor expanding same-sex marriage, by all means celebrate today's decision. Celebrate the achievement of a desired goal. Celebrate the opportunity for a new expression of commitment to a partner. Celebrate the availability of new benefits. But do not Celebrate the Constitution. It had nothing to do with it."
I'd like to know this for sure as well. So my friend can officially get married in Texas?
Because the US is a republic of states and most laws are done on a state by state basisI'm not American but why wasn't this done before?

The nature of injustice is that we may not always see it in our own times. The generations that wrote and ratified the Bill of Rights and the Fourteenth Amendment did not presume to know the extent of freedom in all of its dimensions, and so they entrusted to future generations a character protecting the right of all persons to enjoy liberty as we learn its meaning."
This is writing.

Can someone post the dissents?
This is some revisionist-ass history, Antonin.Scalia said:Until the courts put a stop to it, public debate over same-sex marriage displayed American democracy at its best. Individuals on both sides of the issue passionately, but respectfully, attempted to persuade their fellow citizens to accept their views.
So to be clear, this decision effectively legalizes SSM throughout the USA in all 50 states, and each state much recognize each other's licenses as valid?
Yes. Technically, I believe the Court's decision won't take effect until the mandate issues in about two weeks, although states are of course free to start implementing it sooner. (After the Court declined to take up the SSM question last fall, meaning that it let stand lower court rulings striking down the bans, same-sex marriages started happening the same day in some of the states, such as Virginia.
