First Reactions To Ant-Man

Can't be worse than Kingsman, Mad Max and Furious 7.

If the biggest "must see" scene in a movie is a throwaway after credits stinger, is the movie actually any good?
One of the tweets that mentions the PC scene also talks about it's heart and compares it to Ocean's 11. Keep in mind the guy is probably pre-empting hundreds of people asking about them.

I don't know why it's surprising to you that people find them such a big deal, it was the same deal with Ulton... And every other MCU movie thus far. But it seems you have a bit of an axe to grind regardless.

I was already going to the theater to watch ANT-MAN, but it's great to see some positive reactions. And yeah, mid credit/post credit scenes are important! Mmmm

Better movie than Avengers 1. Worse "event" type of movie. I think my biggest complaint of AoU was that it just kinda treads water. It's like a filler comic book where the Avengers beat the villain/save the world, and that's about it. The over-arching story of Thanos was barely touched on. Again, a filler comic book movie.

But the anti-MCU momentum on GAF was building for a while before AoU dropped. There were so many threads on it. All of the salt was glorious.

I'm glad there's another MCU coming out soon so we get to experience more of it. 😃

Nice reactions - the comment about Ant-Man having someone's favorite third act in a Marvel movie is pretty intriguing.

Welcome to the MCU, Mr. Rudd.

Ocean's 11 comparison is most likely due to both being heist movies, I wouldn't read too much into it.

So, time to fire up the grill & get the crows ready or should I wait for the actual reviews to come in?

Not exactly. While it wasn't GotG or Winter Soldier good, AoU was by no means a bad movie.
It was about as generic as you can get in terms of plot and had one of the most typical third act climaxes Ive seen in a while. Nothing about the movie was interesting, just felt like 'heres some more avengers' and thats about it. Yeah, it wasnt bad, but it wasnt good either. Just a typical summer blockbuster.

Guess for 1st and 2nd Post Credit Scenes:

#1) Lang is offered a spot on the Avengers, leading into him being in Civil War

#2) Pym or someone talking about experimenting on ants, and sometimes other insects, with the camera focusing on case after case of ants only to stop on a case with a spider in it.

I've heard that best third act nonsense for every single Marvel movie that's come out. Even Guardians, which had a kinda lame third act. Of course, if they manage to avoid a giant laser or alien army or evil flying ships swooping down on the city third act, then maybe it will be the best one in Marvel. I'll believe it when I see it.

Yep. Almost all Marvel movies boil down to a CGI cluster-fuck at the end. Its hard to be impressed by it anymore. Feels like you might as well be watching a cartoon.

Marvel needs to realize that they dont always have to go huge and flashy every friggin movie. I cant remember the sequence of events for half of the big flashy action sequences for AoU, but I can remember the first time that Winter Soldier and the Captain clashed in The Winder Soldier very vividly.

Again:

It takes ANT-MAN a moment to get cranked up, but once it does, it’s sensational. My favorite third-act of any Marvel movie.

Favorite. Not best.

but fwiw, there is no a giant laser or alien army or evil flying ships swooping down on a city

Pointing out how stupid and inconsequential the emphasis on caring about credit stingers = An axe to grind. Okay. Lol.

The fuck? Thor was great.

The Thor movies were never more than vehicles for promoting future movies. Both were pretty poor in almost every way. The only movie worse than the Thor films is Iron Man 2, which is a retread of Iron Man with weaker plot and even weaker antagonist.

The only future movie promotional thing in Thor is Hawkeye's cameo, and there's nothing in Thor 2 that has anything to do with Avengers/Thanos stuff except the mid-credits scene.

More impressions:

Ant-Man is more methodical than most Marvel movies but it’s hilarious & a totally great ride. So many fun MCU links too. Another winner.
— Germain Lussier (@GermainLussier)

Ant-Man isn't just great entertainment, it's also a great movie. Marvel's most human film to date. Fantastic.
— Jack Giroux (@JackGi)

Ant-Man ties into the MCU without using any tangents. Almost all buildup, but that's a part of the fun with heist films. Great script.
— Jack Giroux (@JackGi)

#AntMan: Mostly boring with lots of exposition, daddy issues and a splash of wit. Oh! And Paul Rudd's abs. #FemaleGaze
— Courtney Howard (@Lulamaybelle

Guys, don't worry. #AntMan is good. Like, goooooood. Also, it's the weirdest Marvel movie yet. Weirder than "Guardians of the Galaxy" even.

my fear of the movie being bad never came from the source material or people (actors/directors) involved.. Just came from all of the shake ups in getting the movie made.

Would love for it to still be good and the early reviews are promising. To be perfectly honest, I would consider a movie quality to the equivalent of an RT of 50-65% to be a success.

Will be there opening weekend.

My RT prediction is 68% +/- 2pts. I thought Ultron would review higher than it did so I'm setting my sights a little lower :-P

From what I've seen I have a hard time believing the movie will be outright bad. If anything, mediocrity would be its worst fate.

It looks relatively unoffensive. The fact that they changed directors at the last minute means they probably played this one a bit safer, which is not a comment on either director attached, just that they had a small amount of time to turn it around.

The best part of the movie is a post credit scene?

Marvel has the critics by THE FUCKING BALLS

gee, some people sure love to shitpost in every Marvel thread. Like Ahasverus here misinterpreting a twitter post to use as another excuse to hate on Marvel

I think literally every Marvel thread from the last couple of months have a bunch people just randomly saying Ultron is shit, whether or not it has anything to do with the topic. You do realize it has generally positive reviews from critics and average moviegoers alike? You're all in the minority thinking it's a shit movie.

Speculation on post credit scene anyone? Im thinking maybe ant man breaking into oscorp gazing upon some villain tech. Hoping for a guardians reference but doubt it

Marvel tends to have 1 serious and 1 fun post credits scene when they have two of them.

My guess would be a funny one involving Michael Pena (maybe being stuck and forgotten somewhere?) and a serious one that foreshadows Spider-man

Only if see the post credit scene for Thor 1. The only future thing Thor did was laid the foundation on how the universe works with his explanation of Yggdrasil Tree and how technologically advance Asgards is.

Everything else is pretty much about the characters.

People don't like hearing super hero fatigue but I think at some point it will happen with critics, a lot of AoU critics were tired of the quipping.

I really hope it doesn't though, although I like the marvel movies I'm pumped for DC and those might be dead in the water because of saturation. It should be in the interest of all fans that these movies are good and do well.

Well Winter Solider was The Dark Knight + political thriller, and Guardians was Star Wars.

I loved The Dark Knight, Winter Soldier had solid action, but I found it to be pretty bland overall.

Sometimes I forget Guardians is part of the MCU, I also enjoyed that movie immensely. I've always thought of it as The Avengers in space.

If Ant-Man is a Marvel heist movie, I'm in. It just makes sense, Ant-Man becomes small, imagine the things he could steal or break into!

I have plans to see Ant-man either way, but I'm still glad to hear the positive overall impressions.

And wow at how quickly Marvel film threads become 'post your hateful/exaggerated film opinions' threads. C'mon guys
