So, time to fire up the grill & get the crows ready or should I wait for the actual reviews to come in?

Not exactly. While it wasn't GotG or Winter Soldier good, AoU was by no means a bad movie.

"Winter Soldier" and "Good" should never be used together in the same sentenc.e

Ugh, I'm as big of a Marvel fan as they come and gaf mcu threads have become so terrible. What's the point now when every thread is just about which mcu movies people hated.

Ehhh, this thread isn't really that. May become that now that you've made this post though.

Seriously

I dont consider them the peak of the art form but they arent meant to be.

I have yet to see any of their movies that didn't entertain me

So the impressions seem to be that it's good but not great. That seems about in line with what I expected. Doesn't change my thoughts that this will sit with the Thor movies as a more mild success for Marvel than an outright hit.

It's less "bad" than forgettable. And imo, that's worse.
To me, Avengers 2 holds a very similar position in my mind to Mario Galaxy 2. While I feel both do a lot of things better than their precursor, they don't do enough to really differentiate from each other, and as such they don't have that "wow" factor the originals did. So while I still like Avengers 2 and think it's better than the first, I admittedly look at it much less fondly than I do the original Avengers.

You're right.
You should use "Great" instead.

best third act in Marvel movies? now I'm very curious.

Without spoiling exactly what it is, it's
not another big-city-battle with death-from-above-threat. It sounds like a smaller (heh), more personal set-up for the fight.

also that guy said it was his favorite, not the best.

Yeah, great is a more apt description.

Anyways, I've always hoped this at least wouldn't suck. Seems like that'll be the case. The trailers have just left me pretty cold on the whole thing. The effects and action seem on point, but the humor didn't translate well. I'll be seeing it day 1 regardless.

If the rumored extended directors cut of Age of Ultron is coming out on Blu ray, I have a feeling that it would greatly improve the film. There was a lot of stuff crammed into that film.

I'm expecting nothing out of this movie, so if it turns out to be just average, I'm okay with that. Glad to see it plays like heist movie. I didn't get that feel from any of the trailers, but it at least sounds entertaining.

"Must see post credits scene" = "Best part of the movie is the post credits scene"?

When did Twitter reading comprehension become such a problem

when someone is in a rush to troll the movie before it is screened.

I can read that someone chose one part of the movie over the rest (are pcs part of the movies?) for a 120 character first impression. Fucking LOL.

I don't expect Ant-Man to be good. It will be good by Marvel Universe standards in that "at least it's better than Thor 1" but not really taken seriously. I can already guess how the movie will go:

1. Open heist
2. Jail
3. Bailed out
4. Proposal
5. Dumb family revelation or wanting to do better
6. During this time the villain and suit maker have been bickering over control of the suit and particles
7. Villain creates copy of suit (similar to Iron Man)
8. Scott is asked to steal the plans and stop his factory or tamper with it in some fashion
9. Villain learns truth
10. Villain and hero duke it out and villain obviously loses
11. Sappy melodrama happy conclusion where things come together
12. Dumb end credit scene more exciting just because it's a teaser

All throughout are forgettable and dumb one liners while Scott falls in love with his love interest.

Did I miss anything?

If the biggest "must see" scene in a movie is a throwaway after credits stinger, is the movie actually any good?

That's my thought.

These are MCU fans and they sound like they're scrambling for something positive to say. AoU's impressions were universally positive.

I don't think it's a must see.

I actually haven't seen Ultron yet lol was it really that bad?

It was uninspired, not bad but not really bringing anything new to the table.

I'm excited for it but also disappointed it's another introductory movie where the hero fights an evil mirror version of himself. A little variety would be nice.

Maybe because the post-credits stinger is basically a Marvel tradition for the last 7 years/11 years, and it's much easier to mention that in a tweet than fit a meaningful analysis of plot structure/themes/performances?

That still doesn't make it "the best part" of the movie, nor is it what he even said. Not sure why you had difficulty parsing that from just 140 characters but oh well!

WInter Soldier is held in much higher regard than, well, the regard I hold it in. I'm going to have to rewatch it one of these days - probably when it's on Netflix, considering the silly prices of Marvel's blu-rays.

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON > > > JURASSIC WORLD

Although MAD MAX: FURY ROAD has been my favorite film of the summer so far.

I'll give ANT-MAN a shot.

Because I'm veeery tired of the "You're so eating crow lol" crowd. I will, however, if this movie has a heart (meaning it can be good or a noble failure) which will put me against the fanboys /again/ ("It's not really good" -"No but this is better"). We'll see.

i know it's your job to come into every Marvel thread and spew hate everywhere but you need to learn that comic book movies are one big genre and everyone can enjoy them regardless of the studio.

ease up on the fanboy wars bruh

Better movie than Avengers 1. Worse "event" type of movie. I think my biggest complaint of AoU was that it just kinda treads water. It's like a filler comic book where the Avengers beat the villain/save the world, and that's about it. The over-arching story of Thanos was barely touched on. Again, a filler comic book movie.

But the anti-MCU momentum on GAF was building for a while before AoU dropped. There were so many threads on it. All of the salt was glorious.

I'm glad there's another MCU coming out soon so we get to experience more of it. 😃

The obligatory anti-MCU posts have come, and they are great:

A good third act in a Marvel movie? hahahahahaha

If it had DC in front of the title card Gaffers would be making a thread about how shit it was every week for years.

The best part of the movie is a post credit scene?

HAHA-GIF.gif

Marvel has the critics by THE FUCKING BALLS

I can't wait for the hate train to ramp back up again.

This movie could be universally loved by everyone but you and you'd still pretend like your impression was the only one that's legitimate. This is sadly the default response of the overwhelming majority of gaf.
