Sounds like his true god is a gun. I don't think the Christian god looks favorably on people who worship idols. He may want to get that sorted out.

I accept that there would be divisions like this in any modern western country after such a shift but in the US it is so vocal, so public and so virulent. I have never seen in all my life such an outpouring of ignorance, viciousness and down right hate in all my life.
It's absolutely shameful and for myself in the UK well, I seriously wonder how many of you Americans are fucking insane.

There's a pretty simple explanation. The US is a physically huge, geographically diverse country with a substantial population. Their heritage is quite diverse, and there are some pretty divergent cultures within its borders. Of course it's schizophrenic. Might as well act surprised that you find distinct views across Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Here is a voting demographic map that shows individual counties, shaded to the degree that that county voted for either party in the 2012 election.
This doesn't really look like you might expect a victory for the blue side to look. When you look at things this way even moreso than by state, you can see how much enormous variation you have between rural areas, population centers and anomalies. There are truly few countries it could compare to and the only competitors in terms of geographic size involve considerably more homogeneous populations (that's an oversimplification, but I'm sure you know some of the things that distinguish Russia and China from the US)

To be fair, he's a kid and they're not really his opinions. He's not mature or educated enough to have an opinion worth listening to (at least on this topic). Hopefully one day he'll leave the comfort of his parents embrace and learn to think for himself.
