Gay marriage salt thread

Didn't see this one yet...

“Ours is a country that was built by men and women fleeing religious oppression,” Cruz told the newspaper, “and you look at the foundation of this country — it was to seek out a new land where anyone of us could worship the Lord God Almighty with all of our hearts, minds and souls, without government getting in the way.”
We have hit peak disingenuousness, people.

What a sad little man.

The thing about people like Ted Cruz is that a few decades from now, folks will be shitting all over his legacy in the way we do for those politicians who fought to keep segregation in decades past.

It sure is weird when family, co-workers, or friends/acquaintances start posting salt to Facebook. I fortunately haven't seen any of them post something mean-spirited, but continuing to ignore it has been a little bit of a challenge.

My dad posted some stuff that I think was salt at the decision :( Feels bad, man. My sister is trumpeting it from the rooftops though :D

Or you can just unfriend them

Just read some shit off my facebook feed attacking gay activists as shallow minded and ignorant behind some pseudo intellectual rambling. I had to do a double take before shaking it off and deleting.

I keep thinking what a world we live in before reminding myself that their political repressive views die with them.

I like to keep an eye on crazy arse misterxmedia's blog from time to time but recently he's moved to a new forum.
A couple of folk over there seem a bit salty about the SCOTUS news.
Another string to their crazy bow I suppose.

Sen. Ted Cruz is ready to rain on the parade of Texas citizens celebrating the Supreme Court decision on Friday to legalize same-sex marriage throughout the country.

On Saturday, the 2016 Republican presidential candidate said he “absolutely” believes that his state’s country clerks should deny marriage licenses to same-sex couples if they have a religious objection, in an interview with The Texas Tribune.
so he is literally putting religion above the law, is that correct? this is some ISIS level of bullshit here.

Can someone put the rainbow colouring on something on my avatar? I'd like to keep the background as it is now since I am not sure if it would even fit well but maybe colouring the helmet could work.

What's worse, is that these politicians don't actually believe the shit they're saying. They only do it because they want to rally their base around supporting them for elections, which is a good way to get mentally unstable people in said base to do awful shit to other people. It's blatant manipulation.
Well, my dad has finally commented, simply saying "The Supreme Court has lost all credibility", and has recently been warning that pedophilia will be the next to be legaiized.
Show him this.
Yes, I know it's lazy, but it's true. Lol

Instead of showing him the logical fallacy, you could also hold up a a mirror. Just state: My dad has lost all credibility, and warn that due to his recent stupid remarks he might evolve into a donkey.

This gets people really pissed and offended, even if it's exactly their line of reasoning though and sometimes they just need to see it being used from the other side.

Good luck either way, must be tough.

It must be especially shitty to have openly bigoted family and friends. Not exactly the easiest group of people to cut off, but you have a better shot at dragging them across the line than anybody else, if you have the patience.

Nah I have to wait for them to die off. I don't say that with joy or anticipation but that's just how it is.

America is such a weird country at times. When it was legalised in the UK there was some moaning etc, mainly from the Church but nowhere, nowhere nearly as bad, offensive, dumb and ignorant as what I've seen emanating from the US. Yet, at other times it's fucking hilarious!
America always has a strong history of bigotry, from race to sex and sexuality. All this moaning is nothing surprising. I'm actually surprise there isn't a riot somewhere yet cause of this.
I'm happy that this happened though, should have been years ago.

You're right, it does seem like satire. I watched the video to the end and as the door closed I thought "that door closing is really weird, it's ruining the shot," but then it was just a terrible visual representation of the woman's metaphor. Also, thanks for linking to the Brass Eye Report, it seems really funny.

Yeah, it was a horrible video, the "criminalization of christianity" made me chuckle.

If you like Brass Eye, check The Day Today, even if some references are old, is just as fun.

I really wanted to know what people expect to happen when posting shit like this

I mean, its like begging to be banned

They think this is GameFAQS where thanks to their ridiculous Karma system/shit mods, you can get away with anything short of calling someone a racial slur (and sometimes, even then).

What I would like to see (in addition to that delicious tongue-tantalising seasoning), is actually genuine changes or heart.

I would like to see stories of people who realise, "you know what, there's nothing much wrong with it."

Honestly, I am sure there are people like that. However, they are being drowned out by a very vocal minority striving to score political brownie points with a dying breed of voters.

Perhaps not exactly what you're looking for, but here's something in that direction at least.

I know, which is a shame. I'm hoping people can try and find stories like that and post them here, too, to contrast with the absolute blind hatred that is uncontrollably eating up some people.

Thanks! I totally missed this thread this weekend :)

Have been reading some comments on various news sites and was wondering why so many people state that the next step is child molestation? Are there any studies out there that prove that gay men molest children at a higher rate than straight men?

If anything they should be outraged towards their own church leaders, they haven't been a great example these past couple years.

It will happen with time I think. I really think this happening will spark a wave of acceptance. Being gay will start seeming normal to most everybody, especially the young generations. This really needed to happen on a national level and I'm glad it did. It's the law of the land now, the government has no problem with gay individuals. Time to accept it and move on.

No there are no studies supporting this "logic", look up the slippery slope fallacy posted earlier for an elaboration on these news posts.
