Lol holy shit. Floe learning Kung Lao just so he can enter MKX at Evo. He's joking about NRS patching Kung Lao before the event, and while he's playing "A new patch has been released" notification.

Atari 800XL brofist!

I later got a C64 but my Atari was my true love.

Much <3!!!

Atari 2600 here. Qbert, Combat, Dragster.

My cousins had the 2600. Combat got old really fast(faster than ET) but Adventure, Yars Revenge, Swordquest(Earth World), Pitfall, Vanguard and Haunted house were instant classics. Of course games like Montezuma's Revenge shitted on everything the 2600 had, and I'm talking about the original version (which used all 48k of the 800xl memory, unlike the 2600's trimmed-down-to-16k version).

Maybe relevant, here's my story about when I went to jail because of being in an arcade at the wrong time.

That sounds like a stretch, but they're going to have a harder time making it to top 8 this year than previous years. There are way too many killers now; everyone is vulnerable in pools/semis.

Once all three are knocked out, people gonna be like

People hungry for that bounty money?

Nah, people just leveled up. Dahbomb who follows the church of Justin Wong says otherwise and calls me a heretic, just like the rest of the Justin fanatics here. There's going to be a revolution and I will be at the forefront cheering on!

I am going to do some real talk for a second here because I don't want to leave my man Dryeyerelief hanging there.

I wanna know Dahbomb. In your opinion, why isn't marvel isn't the main event? It's the most hype right?
Real answer is "tradition" and MrWizard's own personal bias. Objectively speaking you can use a few justifications for it:

*Marvel 3 and SF4 are the two games with the most showing at EVO from that line up. SF4 is last because it had the most showing at EVO and Marvel 3 2nd after it. They have proven themselves not just in 1 year (like the newer games have) but across half a decade. They are EVO staples at this point. Sure MKX has more views/entrants while it's hot, can it continue it for next year? What about the year after that? What about 4 years from now?

*No matter how you want to analyze the numbers and make excuses for it, Marvel 3 still had the highest stream numbers 4 years running while being in that 2nd last spot. Maybe EVO would maximize CPM if they put SF4 2nd last and put Smash last (who knows) but until the pattern changes, why change?

*EVO is not the same as standard majors and it's especially not the same as major for the casual audience who tune in to EVO but don't tune into majors. That's why EVO breaks records and most majors don't, it's become some casuals only tune in for EVO and not for majors. For these casuals, maybe they care about Marvel more than SF... who knows. Marvel 3 had a weaker year in terms of stream numbers and entrants but has had an amazing EVO run so far so most of the casuals probably only remember Justin's great runs at EVO and want to see if he can continue that this year.

*Even if MrWiz finds Marvel hype, he probably finds SF more hype and thus would like it to be the headline. He can get away with Marvel being 2nd last but he probably can't get away with making SF NOT be last.

Basically, it's not as simple as "look at entrant numbers" and then schedule the games that way. It's also not even as simple as "look at stream numbers for the past few months" and then schedule the games accordingly.

I personally would totally be fine if Marvel was last, 2nd last, 3rd last, finals on Saturday, 2nd last on Saturday, last on Friday whatever the fuck as long as I get to watch some semi matches and the top 8. If I were to organize the event then I probably would not have made Marvel last or 2nd last but hey... I am not organizing it and it's not my tournament.

I have a feeling two of the three gods ain't gonna make top 8. Just a feeling.
This is probably the year that it could happen but the gods are probably going to make top 8 anyway. It could very much be a possibility that no god wins at EVO as well. That said it's still bad to bet against Justin... you should know better!

I would add that Street Fighter and Marvel vs Capcom are the two series that have been there every year since the very first Evo. That contributes to the "tradition" part of Wizard's decision making.

i actually hope chris g wins mvc3

remember that one year where chris g was on a hot streak in marvel but had a too cool for school attitude with evo? yeah, i wonder how much he has regretted for not taking evo seriously last time especially if he doesn't win marvel this year.

you know, this is probably the only thing that will make me hype for mvc3. Chris G is one of my favorite players and I remember when he was dominant, which was when the height of my interest of the game was, but he still hasn't one an evo yet.

I played an Alpha game as Guy and quit when I realized Guy didn't have a fireball like Ken

I'm totally OG right

Chris G was one of my favorite players but then he kept opening his mouth and also showed up 30 minutes late to his pool in 2013 with no repercussions

If hype determines order, why isn't Guilty Gear Xrd at a later time, considering the last 2 Evos where anime was super hype, and CEO also showing that even Japanese domination is super hype.

I don't want to repeat myself, but anime games time slot prior Asia, not USA. So Unless those games make better entrance numbers than Street Fighter, they'll always be at the morning for the states (evening for japan)

Now lets be real. Does anybody really belive that if SF was at Melee or Marvel slot, won't make it to 200k viewers or more? SF timeslot just makes it lose Europe and even East Coast viewership.
The thing it's that Wizard, from a smart business perspective, nows that it's better to have 3 games near 150k viewers that having one at 200k and other at 80k (Marvel). Putting SF last helps to get views to other games and make a bit more twitch money.

ChrisG has to get very lucky to win EVO.

Like he basically has to get a bunch of easy match ups for his team in semis then either hope that the gods are eliminated before him or he catches one of the gods on a bad die.

It's not just that people know how to play against his team but they know how to play ChrisG as a player. At some point it goes well beyond game mechanics and team composition when you are getting beat by Hulk/Haggars with that team in top 8s.... you are just getting read like a book.

EVO has a bigger pool of players that could "random" ChrisG out and he already has to struggle to win majors now.

This is probably a smart way to look at it although IMO it means more to break the 200K number than to have a higher sustained number of viewers.
