Personally I think it would be just deserts if a few people dressed up as zombie types and then went and pelted the guy and his stuff with rotten fruits/vegetables and maybe a bucket of good ol red stuff before scattering to the winds.

Might send a message.

And yes it can be considered excessive.

It might also be damn effective against a well known prick.

or maybe the convention organizers can grow a pair? Nah lets throw stuff at someone to show how upset they make us.

Had a friend that worked Dragon con for years, and she use to tell me of all the batshit things that go on behind the scenes. She told Kevin Sorbo was an asshole years before he started on Fox

Not really. Just kind of a jerk thing to do.

Mark Waid went all-in on Twitter about this:

Please. Waid needs to take a chill pill.

Lol passive aggressive twitter shit. Fucking physically take back your table
I'm not certain this is so easy when you're a lesser known person who doesn't want to be seen as the one making a scene.
I mean, we can blame them for being in this situation but before that (in order) Suydam might have avoided acting like a jerk and the con might have managed the situation, it's their role to deal with this kind of dumb drama.

At least Comic Twitter can be good for some things:
@KurtBusiek: I'm pretty hammered on Asturian cider. Bob Layton is flirting with the waitress and Steve Englehart is translating for him

Isn't this a little too far? Guy was an asshat at this convention. Let's not string him the fuck up and bottle his shit to send to his family to eat.

He's an established artist that stole business from three other artists who are kinda up and coming.

Wait - why is everyone, including the 3 artists and the organizers, so passive aggressive?

They didn't do anything about it, just complained a little and asked him to please don't do that again next time?

unfortunately in super close knit industries, you're often worse off for speaking up than just taking the punch and preventing it from happening again

My dad always used to tell me that if you keep on letting yourself get bullied and all you do is bitch and moan to others and not doing anything about it, its gonna keep on happening and youll look like a fool.

There are so many ways to solve this problem other than trying to make an internet stink about it. So many.

It's been said here, but speaking out against another creator in the industry can be a problem for some people. Especially if you're relatively new/unknown going up against someone more established.

Here's the actual quote from the review on his site:

"Superman wins by killing Zod. By snapping his neck. And as this moment was building, as Zod was out of control and Superman was (for the first time since the fishing boat 90 minutes ago) struggling to actually save innocent victims instead of casually catching them in mid-plummet, some crazy guy in front of us was muttering “Don’t do it…don’t do it…DON’T DO IT…” and then Superman snapped Zod’s neck and that guy stood up and said in a very loud voice, “THAT’S IT, YOU LOST ME, I’M OUT,” and his girlfriend had to literally pull him back into his seat and keep him from walking out and that crazy guy was me. That crazy guy was me, and I barely even remember doing that, I had to be told afterward that I’d done that, that’s how caught up in betrayal I felt. "

Goddamn, that's still so bad.

In my experience running tables in various artist alleys, it's sometimes very difficult to voice complaints to con organizers and even harder to get something enforced. Artist Alley is most often of the bottom of the priority list of MANY conventions.

Amazing how many people think that people should resort to a physical altercation by going and throwing his stuff off the table and taking those tables back. Because I'm sure that is what aspiring artists want, to be associated with a physical incident over some tables like school kids. Even if the guy taking the tables is wrong it still looks bad on you. Also wasting time on attacking the guys reputation is a lost cause. He doesn't strike me as the type that really cares. Best bet is to get other people in the industry involved and even fans and put heat on the organizers of this event. If they're not going to do whats right then make them sweat until they give into the bad pr and step in and do something. Even with backlash some people simply won't care though.

Dorkin putting the fine point on what I said last page: The industry is relatively small, and incestuous as fuck, and people are non-confrontational because you often have no idea if you're about to talk yourself out of a job you want later, a job you didn't even know you aced yourself out of because the guy who knows the guy who is putting together the package heard you said some shit that neither of those guys like. Your ability/skills don't matter, really.

As such: people eating tons of shit they otherwise wouldn't.

It's pretty high school.

Lmao that's some of the corniest shit I've ever heard.

Edit: I agree with his joyless complaint though, another writer accompanying Goyer would have likely fixed that

When someone squeezes their way into the space that you paid for it's already gotten physical.

Pretty much this. It's easy for a Mark Waid (super established) to say some shit like that, but those who aren't so established, it's tricky. Shit, Rachel Richey didn't even get mentioned in the apology from the con.

Nobody got mentioned in the con's apology as far as I know. Rachel didn't get a personal sort-of-apology from the guy himself. He only went to make his excuses to the bigger names and passed her by. Classy.

How goon can you be wearing a spider man t shirt?

I thought the exact same thing. Like, this is Mark Waid, fam:

The idea of this man rolling around conventions with the
fredo.png
face, dispensing vigilante justice on crooked artists is too much for me right now.

He looks like the worse thing he can do is not file your taxes.

When no one was looking Arthur Suydam took 3 tables. He took 3 tables. That's as many as three ones. And that's terrible.

I met Mark Waid many years ago at San Diego Comic Con when Kingdom Come was out. He couldn't have been nicer and more gracious to me. Also he has been doing panels on Superman for years. He is a legitimate expert on the character.

The fact that he got so enraged at the depiction of Superman in Man of Steel shows how passionate he is about the character. I think any big comic fan can relate to that. It's not corny at all, its seeing something you really enjoy and know something about get tarnished. By the way, I didn't think that scene in Man of Steel wasn't that bad but I respect Waid for being so angry about it.

I think it's awesome that he is standing up for his fellow professionals who got screwed over by this artist who does trendy zombie comic art.

Yet he wrote irredeemable with that ending?

I'll have you know that the majority of serial killers rock the middle aged office worker look so you better not cross dudes like that...

What's wrong with Irredeemable's ending?

Nothing it was good and brought the man tears. Just found it odd he would be upset with MoS. Since he told one of the great superman stories in the last 10 years, in my opinion. And Irredeemable makes MoS look like Teddybear Picnic.

Of course. But its really pathetic. Someone took your table or space go do something about it. Crying online about it is the wuss way.

Crying about it online? When the con organizers didn't listen to them, they talked to the comic book press (which is mainly online) and other creators on twitter. What else do you want them to do?

According to Gaf, they were supposed to flip tables, make a scene, and risk their reputations in the industry.
