MGSV Alternate E3 Gameplay Demo

One my buddies (writes for a gaming mag) played the preview build that the likes of The Guardian wrote about recently and said this is by far and large the most impressive game in ages,

I refuse to watch any more footage, but the hype is real. It's the only game that could dethrone the mighty Bloodborne for me.
 
Why do I get this feeling that those overpowered joke items are going to be a huge grind to unlock unless you pay for microtransaction...

I definitely agree with this.
Be well prepared though for hardline Metal Gear fans to pull the most ridiculous justifications out of their arses to explain it away as all part of Master Kojoma San's grand plot, and not just because it's pandering, amateurish and shitty.
"It's okay that every single female character gets their tits out because the sneaking suit is quite tight as well!"

Won't talk any more on it though as it'd make a good separate thread.

Agreed.

The one issue I have with MGSV marketing thus far is the random boob-jiggle shot from the E3 trailer (from one of the female enemies). I actually have no issues with Quiet's design, because she has a personality, heavy influence on the plot, and in terms of pure shape language her costume is quite excellent. If MGS were a more realistic series I would definitely take issue with it, but melodramatic communication through cinematics, gameplay and character design is a staple of the MGS series, and one I feel it should continue to embrace and run with.

If you want to unlock everything 1h into the game, prepare to pay a lot for time-skipping.

Or play in moderate sessions and enjoy the game at the pace that it is designed for.

Quiet's hum is pretty annoying, but a pretty great companion other than that. Too bad the companions look overpowered as fuck. This won't be a well balanced game.

I'm sure it will be like peace Walker. Simple shit done quick with short missions, stuff like the bandana or stealth suit can take hours.

You have to build your relationship with your buddies to unlock their abilities. They won't be op from the start. Have some confidence.

I wouldn't expect a standing breathing cardbox in the middle of the road not being suspicious just cause of a girl printed on it. And after that you just have to cqc the guard.
I think that weakened evidently the core gameplay.
It would be a good thing like someone has said, if guards evolved and don't get trapped like that but the fact that it works at all is not too good.

Trained soldiers abandoning their guard duties to squat down and stare at dirty magazines isn't anywhere near the vicinity of being believable. You're reaching if a standing cardboard is somehow over the line.

It should be crystal clear to anyone who stuck with the series that the AI was never about being hard but being engaging. They want the soldiers to react to every action at your disposal, even if it's as silly as shaking their hips to drop items when you point a gun at them.

Moreover, having the soldiers change their tactics depending on your play style is already in the game, and mentioned in previous demos. We don't know if it applies to the box specifically, but the adaptability is there, not to make the game harder, but to force you to explore your tools and discover what the game has to offer.
 
The battle dress playthrough is the best.

Shooting people in their faces and snatching their commander up.

That probably will happen. Your enemies are supposed to protect themselves from your most used tactics, so eventually I imagine they'll open fire on cardboard boxes from a distance if you use that trick too many times.

Good news! It's already been confirmed that guards will adapt to your playstyle. Too many tranq headshots? Guards will start wearing helmets.

Start using decoys all the time? Guards will start using decoys on you.

A lot of the people that played at the preview event said that this was one of the harder MGS games they've played.

And if you play on Hard, the enemies can spot you from pretty realistic distances.

I wouldn't expect a magazine to stop a patrolman in the middle of his route and make him mono-maniacally stomp towards it, squat on the spot, and just stare either.

You don't seem to have a problem with that though.
 
I don't think I'm reaching by saying the standing cardbox is too much and that more importantly is a lot cheaper than the magazine tactic to take down a guard
Guards using decoy doesn't tell me if they'll behave the same in front of yours.
Right now, it's a really easy way to distract from yourself even in gunfire.
You'll also notice I'm aware of the behavior evolving but we don't know about the specific things that I mentionned.

And I didn't talk about fulton yet.

Phenomenal video. The last one actually deflated my hype - it was showing too much of the gameplay - but this one has shown just how much of a perfect stealth (or action) sandbox it is.

It's like the best bits of Metal Gear, Thief, Hitman and Red Dead. With the new sheen of mercenary action freedom. Goddamn.

He does better than a lot of developers, I can agree with you up to that point. He always has a great quantity of female characters, who always have some stake and influence in the plot (though nowhere near as much as any male character does).

However, they're almost always marginalised, objectified, and often portrayed as powerless at some point. Usually sexually powerless. The only remote male examples are Raiden getting ball-gripped and the relationship between MGS3's villain and Raidenovic, and a couple of instances of light male nudity. Women get a far worse rap consistently, throughout almost every scene I can remember them being in.

Anyway, yes, this needs a thread.

Same effect, different ways of achieving it.

Humour me a moment:

Let's take what happens in MGS as the rules of its universe for a minute. The MGS universe is one where magazines or just posters featuring pictures of just about anything (mainly beautiful women) are capable of distracting guards to the point that they will not notice anything else around them.

You have no problem with that, right? Even though sometimes you just have to show a hot lady on the TV screen of a tiny Metal Gear to distract people... or that, heck, some magazines can make people feel specific overwhelming emotions. Regardless, you are okay with the effect that magazines and locker posters and what-not can have on people, yah...? Because otherwise, I don't know how you put up with the series this long! :D

Okay, so we also know that in the MGS universe, every cardboard box is capable of hiding a person in it. You're okay with that too, yeah? Not too unrealistic....? ;)

So let's take the next logical step: In the MGS universe, it doesn't take the kind of genius who put cameras and telephones into one hand-sized box to realise that you can combine the properties of magazines/locker posters (which inherently distract randy men) and cardboard boxes (which hide sneaky men) into one handy device. It is, in the context of the MGS universe, a logical evolution. It is such a logical evolution of the technology that it would be unrealistic (in the context of the MGS universe) to not combine those two technologies.

Yes it does. It has been a global feature for a while now.

Switching off the in-game music and turning on Spotify should work in any case. But imagine having to manually pause your playlist during each cut scene etc. It could get real annoying.
 
Wow I love the sneaking suit w/ bandanna. Def gave me the MGS1 feels. I lol'd at how he finished the last run. So perfect. It's nice that the game has so many options. I'll probably be replaying this for the next 10-15 years.

just use a flash drive or the network feature from the new app on ps4. there is no excuse not to add the feature now other then that they have no time.

ahahha you know until right now I didn't even realize rations wasn't in GZs.... they wont be missed...
wonder if this game will have extreme difficulty though its the only reason MGS2 was a pain in the ass.... 1 fucking ration and only enemies dropped them every once in a while...lol only if you held them up.
