MGSV Alternate E3 Gameplay Demo

Please tell me the time acceleration thing in the video is part of the gameplay, if there is one thing I hate about stealth games is having to wait eons to see enemy patterns.

Its weird because in the video, the fast forwarded parts even have a sort of special effect that goes well with the rest of the UI, hopefully it is part of the game.

No that's just fast forwarding through the action to speed things up so they can fit more content in the video. In the game itself, the only way to speed up time is with the Phantom Cigar.

It's not.

Just an example, while other games like Hitman don't even have animations to close doors MGSV even has a small animation where Snake presses the button to open the decoy.

They thought about everything.

Aw yiss!

Animation wise it's kinda inconsistent. On one hand you have some pretty small details being addressed, on the other you have the canned jump down/leap animation that look like legacy gen. Crazy that those are in the same game as the detailed rock climbing one.

Is there no blood/gore in the game? The first guy sniped by Quiet just fell over, like he was put to sleep.
There's gonna be a fair bit of gore. Have you not seen the trailer where Snake shoots someone in the head at point blank?

Actually, he has quiet equipped with tranq darts. It says in a menu.

Tranquilizer sniper rifle.

Oh ok missed that part I guess. Makes sense then.

There's a fair amount of footage on the web but I'm honestly not trying to spoil myself too much. But yeah I was just curious about it showing during gameplay.

The wait for this game gets longer... Especially for the pc version.

That's true, However graphics wise the MGS series isn't known for pushing the boundaries on that end but rather on the gameplay.

This game is 14 years old.

I'd apply it to everything, given the chance. Make it have serious consequences both inside and outside the main story. Like in GZ if Boss failed and required evac, Chico and Paz would be moved, security completely revamped and remixed. Morale losses and resource strain from the rescue OP, especially if friendly forces are lost in the process. Understandably not within the Kojima vision or fulfill most player fantasy but something I would enjoy personally. Gives more weight to the missions.

This sounds great - so much depth would be added to the gameplay.

Suppose Boss gets injured and requires evac, and you complete the mission with a regular soldier, then what about some important story-related cutscenes? Would the soldier be doing the talking? Also, when you get back to Mother Base to unlock some story cutscenes, would they play with Boss being injured? Those are some of the specifics I was referring to.

So if you call the animations "inconsistent" there is clearly more that bugs you, so what else? or is this the only nitpicky thing? because imo the animations are incredible.

What? O_O

Every MGS game was always one of the best looking games when it came out, MGS2 for example was beyond everything else.

The vid was great and showcased the freedom we can have with this game. Everything looks OP, but won't this plethora of options do the opposite and make player stick with one playstyle? I hope the game will put me in situations where I will have to try something new. I know it may sound stupid to you, but in the games where you can have different approaches I usually tend to bruteforce my way in, because games never offer me an incentive to change my ways outside of "you can do it the other way if you want, but we don't insist".

They shoot the guys down (no trenq) and why bother to fulton them? They are dead. Or are they? When they fulton them, they are screaming.

A bit off....

Didn't MGS1 look good by the time it was released? I mean when you compare it to FF7, it's on another league.

MGS2 looked great in those times.

On initial thought the only thing the evac team could do is get Boss out. They wouldn't finish his mission in his place. If you wanted to go super deep you could require recovery time and actually have someone else running missions while he's out with appropriate cutscenes in place etc.

I see the point. You can tell that some animations are mo-cap'd, or animated based on real-world footage, and that others are purposefully exaggerated (like the jumping animations). There is an inconsistency there. I remember calling out the rock-climbing animation because it seemed too 'professional' to me, and that's a part of it. It looks like something an actual person is doing when a lot of the animations in MGSV looks like something a stunt person is doing for maximum impact (cool, dynamic movements).

The animations can still be incredible and the inconsistency can be jarring.

Yeah, my man Noctis tripping tbh; he probably been up too late playing dat Episode Duscae tbf tho

MGS has always pushed graphics-- MGSV just started development at the back end of the last generation of consoles, is all. I mean, look at PT, arguably (and imo IS) the best looking game out there on consoles!

I guess some missions will be better suited to certain tactics than others. They also adapt to what tactics you've used in the past so it will be interesting to see how far that's taken. Causing less kills and capturing key people will give better rewards which can increase your options for later missions.

Indeed, MGS2 on PS2 had the best PS3 graphics at that time, same for MGS on PS1, but that was when Konami was huge and japanese companies were the main gaming producers, now it's hard to compete with EA's Frostbite, Unreal Engine or CryEngine , even if the Fox Engine looks pretty good.
Of course the 60fps target and the crossgen development don't help too

PT is a complete different thing, it's easy to do that graphics when nothing is interactive and the location is so small and limited, even the 6 men team behind Allison Road achieved that kind of graphics

At the beginning of the video, when they're choosing their load out, he chooses rubber bullets.

Wait, so some animations are inconsistent because they seem too "professional"?

Yeah, that makes more sense. If they implemented these ideas, they would need to rework the pacing of story cutscenes and cutscenes themselves.

Honestly it's the only thing that really bugged me playing GZ in terms of animation. Could be more but it's the only thing that really stood out for me.

On the other hand you can already select other characters before deployment so who knows how deep that goes. Going to assume it can't be done with the main mission.

Hmm ok, well it didn't really bother me.

Wait, so some animations are inconsistent because they seem too "professional"?

Inconsistency is relative.

If some animations seem realistic and others seem exaggerated for effect then you get inconsistency.

It's like if you were playing The Last of Us and at some point Joel does a rising uppercut. That would be inconsistent.

Similarly when you are sprinting and leaping over obstacles like a panther climbing up a wall patiently and properly might be jarring. Or having a character leap like an action hero but crawl realistically.

Ride of the Valkyries playing in the helicopter on the assault suit gameplay is pretty good, hell through the whole mission is pretty funny.

I mean, it's safe to assume though that Silent Hills would be one of the best-looking PS4 games out there had it not be cancelled.

Yeah, I don't think you can play as other characters in main missions, but you can play them in side missions. Also, some side missions can only be completed with other characters.

Quiet's humming gets old real fucking fast.

I'll be honest, this was the thing that bugged me, this and the "hiya" every single time. I have nothing against Kiefer's "hiya" but if you have to ride a long time i can see this could get a bit annoying. I'd much prefer if he only says it here and then and not every single time you press the damn button.

Can't believe no play tester complained about it or the developers who get to play the game every single day.

Another small thing is the shit on the left when you get hit or do a headshot or takedown or whatever, i don't need to see that shit, hope you can turn that off in the options.

Besides that the game looks like the best game ever.

I wonder if we can change Quiet's outfit in the future. Don't get me wrong, I'm one of the few who don't mind her current look but the option would be nice.

Agreed... the hiya was the most noticeable for me. You would think they could've added more variety to go through, and not as often. TW3 does it very well imo.

I believe more options become available to us as we progress our relationship with her!

Oh, snap, you just opened up the Pandora's box by mentioning TW3 around S4nic!

Also two instances of GMP appearing on-screen when you fulton someone now. Needless UI clutter.
