At the beginning of the missions when it mentions who it's "starring" it says Revolver "Shalashaska" Ocelot but wasn't Revolver his FOXHOUND name? He has it already?

mind blown there was heal spray lol ima go play GZs when i get home...
I agree rations on the easy diffs was ridiculous.. but man it was brutal on extreme.
the hardest thing ever on a mgs game for me was mgs2 on extreme the second vamp fight... on extreme you only get 1 ration 1 ..... and they only drop from held up enemies ..and not every time...
I had one third of my max health so if i got hit once it was over... took me like 200 trys lol...the 25 metal gears and solidus after that was cake...was sooo happy to be done with it..never again.

Funnily enough, I found Vamp and the Rays really easy in MGS2 on European Extreme. It was Solidus i found impossible. You know what - i actually never finihed the game ecause that fight was so hard.

Also while regen health is a huge improvement in MGSV, the Healing Spray really isnt that great - espeially the ridiculous animation to go with it. His fave looks stupid. Only animation gaff in the whole game imo.

Yeah, I had seen those... Can't really speculate based on early concept sketches, and I always assumed that trailer shot is from when you first meet Quiet, when something hasn't happened yet to motivate her to dress like she does. You'd think they would've shown different outfits for Quiet if that was going to be a significant thing, we've even seen different outfits for D-horse and DD.

But anyway, it's just a prediction, we'll see who's right in September. I think she looks cool either way.

Im on mobile so cant find source - but i'm quite sure Kojima has verbally confirmed that you'll get multiple outfits for Quiet including more fully-clothed variants.

You're correct, but the design (not sure that's the right word) of the games tend to ignore stuff like that. See Big Boss still being called 'Snake', when he explicitly said he was taking up the 'Big Boss' mantle in Peace Walker.

Also, I can't not see the dick on the back of that sneaking suit. It's so bloody obvious that it has to be intentional.

Apparently, 'names' will play a big part in the story. The names you are given, the names you take, and what they mean to different people.

Wait, they were able to increase the performance for this on the xbox one? Something about e3 announcement? i totally missed this. Seen a comment or two but dont have time to search all the pages. any help to confirm or deny this for me? thanks!

There have been quite a few small things in the game that I can't help but wonder why nobody found annoying in all the time they've been playtesting it.

  • Snake saying Hya over and over
  • Quiet constantly humming
  • Kaz still consistently talks over the other voices from the battlefield. We better be able to press the radio button again to shut him up.
  • Analysis complete gets really irritating. The stats pop up visually after itss complete. There's no need for this overly long audio indication.
  • Actually I just don't like any of the indicator audio that Donna Burke does. Sun will rise shorty, sun will set momentarily. They're annoying.
  • The spam of text notifications that constantly pop up on screen for even 1 or 2 actions

I agree, the game has a surprising amount of little "annoyances".

From the new gameplay video the Quiet humming and Big Boss going "hyaa hyaa hyaa hyaa" non-stop was irritating. Though as far as D-Horse is concerned I actually think it's player input, as in repeatedly pressing the gallop button.

And yeah, the endless meaningless i-Droid messages are also annoying.

Here's to hoping we can shut all that stuff down.

Bit off topic but question...

One thing that bothered me is in the original 2015 E3 game play demo, The guy chatting over the top of the demo said that Snake couldn't speak Russian and needs an interpreter.

But fans of MGS3 know that Snakes Russian is superb.

Anyone?

I agree, it gets too much at times. Sometimes it makes sense, like when Kaz talks after you tranquilize your target, after all aren't you supposed to hear this 4 times in a row, but things like analysis complete or Snake apparently having to say Hya over and over if you want to ride fast is stuff that could get annoying really quick.

Showing the 'hits taken' just takes away from the in-the-moment experience. I understand that it's probably good for replays, but I hope it isn't there for the first time through.

Would be great if someone could ask Ken over at twitter about all that stuff.

He's a cool guy and answers plenty of fan questions, hopefully he can answer some of that stuff too, and if not at least then he's aware that this stuff needs to be addressed before release.

About the Quiet humming: One of her abilities says "Quiet" so i'm guessing this is the button where BB can tell her to shut the fuck up.

Hmm. Sounds cheap

I'm curious to see what else he forgot in the incident, because this seems like a bit of a weird design choice for the game. Pretty much the first thing people are going to do is grab a translator, and then it will stop being an issue.

EDIT: From the link in Led's post below this could just be one of those small details that Kojima likes to put in his games.

We have discuss this to death. There are several theories but the most obvious one is

The other one is more ludicrous
We don't play as BB on TPP

The oddest thing is why Ocelot doesn't translate for BB.

This is more for the audience and that you are playing from Big Boss' perspective. Is he supposed to translate everything in real time?

The oddest thing is why Ocelot doesn't translate for BB.

Yeah, that's a legitimate thing to bring up.

Exactly. Its a strange thing to throw in.

I've read that theory before and i don't buy it either. It's just such a random thing to throw in and yet its clearly stands out.

The dude has a giant piece of shrapnel in his brain and has constant hallucinations.

As for odd detail, this is Kojima man. He always explains game design decisions with weird little bits of exposition. Like: Snake can't use enemy weapons because they're ID locked. Snake hates knives, but now he uses them in MGS4 because Big Boss CQC was leaked and all of his enemies use it. etc, etc. Now Big Boss has aphasia and amnesia to accommodate gameplay changes: snake needs a translator (incorporate translators and keep interrogations locked at first), Snake needs people to tell him what happened (explain for new players).

That was my understanding too but I just find it funny that on the mission where you fulton the interpreter ocelot is on the codec chirping into your ear :p

Maybe it's not really Ocelot....

"Snake you've been talking too....."

I think it would be better if you could just hold down the horse throttle button to stay at high speed. Like in RDR, where terrain determines your top speed.

This is super picky stuff everyone will zone out after a while. I don't exactly plan to use the horse constantly or use Quiet as a buddy all the time.

OK i can possibly see that.
Any other developer and i wouldn't question minor things like that.
As it's Kojima, I'm always trying to second guess every piece of information before the games release.

I love it.

I agree with that, but MGSV is the first that is cross gen (sadly) and also the first to be open world, the map so far has been ridiculously huge compared to previous games and the level of detail and depth in the gameplay really outshines almost every other game out this generation.

i agree... 100% .... I really cant wait for this game...:(

Eh, they wanted an excuse to fit the gameplay mechanic in and that works fine for me.

They could have just ignored it and said 'well now he doesn't speak Russian'

I like the idea of needing to abduct interpreters to understand future text so I don't really care how they justify it.

i haven't watched this yet
do we know for sure yet if getting caught gives you a moment to shoot the guard or his radio before he radios it in and triggers the full alert phase?
or is it still like ground zeroes where getting caught is like mgs1 and the hive mind all is alerted at once

It also directly ties into the theme of
losing your voice, literally and metaphorically
from the e3 trailer.

Is the beginning XB1 footage? If so, I wonder why they even put that in, since the rest of the demo is PS4 footage. Would have been cool to see some actual gameplay on XB1.

Seems to be gone!

"This initiated a sequence where time slowed down, and I had just a few seconds to aim and try to tranquilize the enemy before he was able to call for backup. I missed, and he started to call backup. However, calling backup does take some time, so I was able to put him down while he was in the middle of this call. Once he was down, I waited around to see if any other soldiers answered his half-plea for help. Thankfully, only one enemy came, and I quickly took care of him."

The reason it stood out to me was because of MGS3. Practically everyone is speaking Russian (supposedly).
It's just a random game play mechanic. If it was any other foreign language then it would have gone under my radar.

However..
