Are im the only one that liked Seed and Destiny ? sure Destiny had its flaws. But where still watchable and i enjoyed it.

I would really like a new serie in that universum. See all the cast from Seed/Destiny grown up.

The first series you mentioned had a time slot change and with 00 apparently some people were complaining too much about it not being "Gundam enough" and so they altered things to compensate for that.

There's probably a longer list than that, if you count the AGE arcs as seasons and GBF Try being weaker, among other things. But even so, I wouldn't mind as long as they keep some basics working and end well.

I could have sworn there was a lot more to it then a time slot change like Sunrise interfering with things and such. I know Taniguchi had a barebones staff during the first season or something along those lines. First I've heard that that was one of the reasons for what happened with 00. Makes me wonder what the original plans might have been of they had stuff in mind.

I was wondering if one should count those and I sort of feel you can since it is some of the same problems. At least with GBF we got a complete series and ending for those characters.

Seed/Destiny was one of my favorites. The characters were annoying from time to time, but the overall story and the mech designs were both great in my opinion. I really enjoyed the growth aspect as well, but I think 00 may have done it better since they did a 2 year skip.

That time slot change was the structural reason, since it's what the director disliked the most and also why they didn't take a more straightforward route. Meaning they had less time to do things later and made other changes. But the more I've learned about the production process and what Taniguchi always wanted to do (and how the actual conclusion fits into the big picture), the truth is the staff always liked to mess around and got carried away even when they didn't have an external necessity. Entertainment was on their minds, not so much being prudent and restrained.

If you try to dig up the details, the Gundam 00 staff did say the movie actually had one of the outcomes they originally intended for the second season. It's almost impossible to say if that would have worked better as part of the TV show or not. Either way, there's ultimately not much of a chance that everyone would have been pleased regardless of how it turned out.

You're not, I do as well. Though I strongly prefer the original SEED over DESTINY.

Both had some great mecha designs. And by god that OST. It's outstanding.

The last 10 episodes of SEED had some amazing ost pieces. Especially
where everyone's launching at the end of episode 48. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the track used was "Justice and Freedom."

SEED has its good points, but I think it is a heavily flawed series. I'm of the opinion that SEED is a really good series up through somewhere around episode 25 where they arrive in Orb. After that, the series starts to nose-dive in quality. Characters start to get killed off just to fuel a Kira vs Athrun fight (and their deaths are mostly forgotten later), Kira gets shipped to the PLANTs to meet Lacus for no discernible or logical reason, the Earth Federation quickly descends into moustache-twirling evil, and Flay gets written out of the story for the most part. Ideas and situations are introduced but never elaborated upon, and characters go through wild changes in personality with little build up. The series ultimately feels rushed with a lot of wasted potential and way too much stock footage and recap episodes.

Destiny is pretty much a mess from start to finish, mostly due to inherited flaws from SEED. Logos is probably the most mind-numbingly awful villain group in Gundam history, and Kira manages to become even worse of a character than in SEED. The only decent parts of Destiny are that Durandal made a pretty decent subtle villain and the series had the guts to go through with Shinn's fall.

SEED and Destiny had some amazing Opening, Ending, and insert songs though. I also really liked the first five Gundam designs.

man, Shinn is such a hate-able protagonist. I remember being really angry when it's assumed that he had killed Kira. I had soft spot for Seed universe, mainly because it's the first Gundam series I followed week by week as it air. pretty obsessed with it and rewatching each episode a couple times while waiting for the next one, lol.

I do have one petty reason for disliking DESTINY.

The original air date of episode 34 was June 11, 2005. That just so happens to be my birthday. And at that point Freedom just so happened to be my favorite suit in all of SEED.

Yeah.

Without Tomino, what's the point? Who else is going to bring out the inherent comedy in piloting giant robots?

I wish they'd stop making Gundams with kids.
Make a Gundam with grown ups doing grown up stuf!
And dark.

I want a Gundam Begins xD

I'm not really caught up on a lot of Gundam, and I've forgotten most of what I knew, but wasn't the original idea of youth piloting the Gundams based around the "newtype" concept?

Essentially, a new generation of youth with an evolved "sixth sense" of sorts that allows them to better pilot giant robots?

Or was that all done away with?

There's no reason why you can't have the series focus on those same Newtypes grown up, though. They don't have to be kids necessarily.

Also, Gundam Wing for instance got rid of that new type stuff.

People ignore the effect pretty boy Gundam shows have on sales and fanbase. People hate Kira, but he didn't drop off the Newtype character ranking poll until January of this year.

Lacus didn't drop off until November 2014. Gundam Seed ended in 2005.

That's crazy to me but then I've never gotten why he or Lacus were popular in the first place. My sister is a bigger fan of Seed then me, but even she told me she only really likes the side characters of the show more than the leads.

To be fair, the designs for that series were in general pretty great I think. Shame about Exia though as I love that design.

Yeah, I remember reading that the staff felt they had to change up the series to accommodate new viewers or something along those lines, which is why the first half feels similar in several respects to the first season. Do we have definite knowledge about what his original plans were? I've seen outlines before involving a female lookalike to Lelouch among other things, but never was able to determine if those were accurate. And then obvious stuff like more development for characters like Suzaku, C.C. and Kallen. I can kind of see that though in a lot of ways as I've looked back. There are just too many ideas and while many of them could be interesting, they simply didn't have the time to give to them all.

Now that I didn't know. But yeah, I really didn't care for the movie as a whole so any of that showing up to me would have been a bit much.

I feel like Gundam X was the only AU series that ever brought it up aside from the whole Coordinator parallel in Seed. I also rather liked how that series handled the subject and sort of answered the whole Newtype debate.

I'd say the innovator shit in 00 was a newtype for that universe, and AGE also had it's own version of a new type

I loved it, I think they where the better gundam series next to wing.

Pretty sure there was a slight Newtype element in Wing as well, although I don't recall it going anywhere...Quatre's Heart of Space.

Gundam Wiki on Quatre said:
It is also implied that he may have a form of extrasensory perception or something similar, which he refers to as the "heart of outer space" ("uchuu no kokoro" in Japanese). This ability remains largely unexplored throughout the series, leaving many fans to speculate as to its depth and overall usefulness. Much of this debate is rooted in episode 10, which seems to imply that the "Space Heart" is a form of limited telepathy or empathy- possibly a Newtype ability. In another case, in episode 26, he appears to be able to read Heero's thoughts (of 'the person on Earth': Relena) by touching his heart. However, this discussion is further complicated by a cryptic remark made at the end of the series, in which Quatre states that: "I understand now. The space heart is him [Heero]." Ironically enough, this would seem to imply that, for most of the series, even Quatre remains largely ignorant as to the exact nature of his abilities.

Grown-up characters work, if well written. I think 30's Char and Amuro were cooler than their younger selves. However, they were not well-written.

Was there ever an abridged Gundam Wing series? It's just way too dry. I love the English dub, though. Maxwell Duo is so tubular and rad, dude.

And, I can understand the hate Kira gets. To me, the worst thing Kira did was when he alpha-male'd Flay's fiance in front of her. 100% pure douche. "How dare you try to talk to your fiance, she's my property now ook ook ook."

And he was quick to remind people how reluctant he was to be 1. Fighting in a war machine. 2. Fighting for the apparent bad-guys who have a genocidal hatred for his kind. 3. Fighting against his closest friend. Seemed like a whiner in need of a Bright slap. However, when you are just a kid programmer one day and the the next day you suddenly are having to make life-and-death decisions, it's hard. Coupled with an evil bitch manipulating him, it's damn hard (heh). Kamille had a similar challenge and just went nuttier. So props to Kira for that. Then again, Kamille was REALLY abused.

Kira's biggest fault is his apparent lack of faults. He's too godlike. Hence, Jesus Yamato. The plot armor, too, is too dumb. But, I like Kira. However, I don't like his lack of perspective on why sometimes you must do things in war that might seem wrong in peace-time. He is a moral absolutist, but in doing so, he's blind about what it means to be ethically responsible. Like Batman. lol

This is so ridiculous and I want more.

Well they kinda topped it with Star Winning...
Star Winning isn't even an original concept. Musha Haganemaru even has a plane mode unlike Star Winning which only has a plane as a separate part!

It wasn't in-series but weren't Mu La Flaga/his father/Rau Le Creuset confirmed newtypes by Fukuda?
Prayer Reverie (Mwu's clone) was such a powerful Newtype, he could do the whole Newtype ghost thing and talk to people.
Until you find out that he wasn't really dead, so he supposedly has telepathy?

They've done it in the past. Zeta, ZZ and CCA, and Unicorn feature adult versions of the cast from First.

Beyond its main character, most of Zetas supporting cast are adults in fact.

UC is the only universe that has really had sequels that take place years after its original series.

Also, F91 got a manga sequel that has older versions of its characters.

In terms of child casts, I thought it worked magnificently in First Gundam. The dynamics of its cast are utterly fantastic. Easily my favorite sci fi show ever. And it's even better in The Origin form, which is my favorite manga ever.

Pretty disappointed with the direction they've taken the anime. I would have loved a condensed remake of 0079 in OVA in the vein of the movie trilogy.

if Seed is such a huge success, why don't they make more series in Seed universe?

I don't really get it myself.

Why is it so hard to replicate what made SEED so damn memorable and special?

They haven't come close to matching SEED since then, even DESTINY was a disaster.

SEED was ahead of its time.

They're better than AGE at the very least...

But then, so is getting shot in the spleen.

After Cross Ange, I would not mind seeing Fukuda manage another Gundam AU. I want to see how far he would take it. There were moment in CA that made no sense. It was so nonsensical that it explanation on why it happened became an intentional joke in itself.

I'm a little surprised they didn't just do a full series adaptation of Origin honestly. All the material is right there and I feel like it could be pretty successful. But then I've wondered why they never adapted stuff like Crossbone or that Sentinal series before as well.

Well, the only model kits I've ever bought are Strike, Freedom and Strike Freedom (x2), so that says enough about me.

You are not alone. Sadly that ship has sailed a long time ago.

Man, the manga of The Origin is expensive. You better be right about this, Megalosaro.

The volumes are huge and really well made hardcovers. I don't feel bad at all about paying $20 a piece. The series released a monthly chapter for 10 years, so that should give you an idea at how huge it is.

Are we talking the original MSG trilogy? I really want those as well. Even if those are available, The Origin is easily the ideal way to experience 0079. It fixes so much. It's really something special.

I keep hoping they might just do a series or another set of OVAs once they finish with this current one since it largely covers all the backstory stuff.

I fully expect them to. I imagine they only announced the backstory part at first as a backup in case the OVA didn't sell. Assuming it's doing decently well (I don't see why it wouldn't be), it's a safe bet the rest will start right after. The flashback arc even ends with a perfect transition chapter that takes it right into the intro of 0079.

I (obviously) have not read The Origin, but I still disagree. The trilogy is basically flawless. Can't imagine a non-animated take being better than that.

You should read the origin. I'm not kidding when I say it's one of my favorite pieces of Sci-Fi of all time. It expands on the Zeon side of the story in a way that really paints the OYW in a different light. The political side of The Origin is some of the best of those types of stories Gundam has ever told. It also cuts in areas of the original animation where it needed to be trimmed. The section where the White Base first reaches earth and meanders around has been completely retooled to move at a better pace and be fascinating in its own right.

In addition to that, the art is some of the best manga art I've ever seen. The Origin is truly a masterwork.

I really should get around to reading The Origin, curse my lack of disposable income!
Reading all that really makes me feel bad for having put it off for so long, since the general consensus is that it's great.

It's $32 a vol where I'm from and it's a bit steep for me. And also I know pretty much most of the story anyway.
Any other perks from the hardcover version that can warrant my purchase? And how many volumes is the series gonna be btw?

Finished watching origin ep1, need more Gundam.
Which series do you guys recommend? I've already seen wing, unicirn, 00 and Reconguista in G.

Yeah. Watch the movie trilogy, and follow it with 8th Mobile Suit Team, War in the Pocket, Zeta, ZZ, and finally Unicorn.

Gundam Build Fighters. Season 1 only btw.
The enjoyment factor goes higher if the more Gundam shows you've seen, but a lot of new fans seem to enjoy it as well.

Watch Victory because V2AB is an amazing Gundam design and Usso has one of the most genius and unorthodox piloting styles in the entire franchise. Not to mention all the gore and death. The true villain is also batshit insane in a good way. He/she gets so much development.
