I'm not much of a Nintendo gamer outside of playing a litte DS and 3DS (when the missus isn't on it) but even I can see how much influence and respect this man had in the gaming industry.
And on top of that he seemed like such a nice, genuine guy. Such a shame.

I'll admit, I'm still crying. I've always been primarily a Nintendo fan through the years. I've seen my favorite company through it's good times and it's bad times. I've never always agreed with what they did.
But man, Iwata was our president. He was the face of the company that defined the childhood of many. He was like our Willy Wonka, a magical, whimsical man. But most of all, he was one of us.
And now he's gone. I feel like today Nintendo may have lost more than a president or CEO, but a piece of itself. And I'm worried about it's future.

I woke up still feeling awful. I see some folks talking about how the forum should get an Iwata themed logo up. I have nothing to add to that, as I trust the staff and think they know what is best. But I just wanted to say, this entire thread and community is a tribute to Iwata.
The way so many have come together to grieve and remember him. The way others are embracing one another and helping each other get through this. It's all the fan art created in tribute to Iwata. It's people sharing their experiences having met Iwata, or gamers talking about how Iwata impacted their lives and created experiences for them. It's the ribbon avatars, as people are quick to make them for anyone that wants one as they mourn.
When I heard the news he died, I was sitting in a hotel room across my country. I was in shock. A wave of absolute grief washed over me and I burst out crying. I have surgeries all this week, and I'm already scared. This was the worst kind of news. But I was able to process all this by reading this thread, and read everything this community had to say.
I dunno, I think the best tribute so far is just this community and how everyone is banding together during this time.

Really shouldn't have read through these on my lunch break..ive got dust in my eyes...some awesome pictures, memories and comments! Could not sleep last night and just checked Twitter around 2aam ish and saw the posts start....couldn't sleep after that, so sad but amazing memories and they are always with us all! Gamers at heart!!
Yeah, I turned on Splatoon and was quite moved by this. It's amazing Miiverse allows fans to pay tribute like this.I've spotted lots of tributes via Miiverse while playing Splatoon and Balloon Fight this evening.
Reaffirms my belief that Miiverse is a wonderful feature on Wii/3DS.

I've been feeling off the whole day after I heard about his death. Still can't really accept it.

Well the Playstation was originally created to be a SNES add-on. Might have something to do with the history between Sony and Nintendo.

This made me tear up, but at the same time feel weirdly better.
I was at E3 a few years back getting into a lift to go from the biz level down to ground floor - Nintendo's E3 analyst briefing had just finished and as I got in I saw Iwata stood in the lift with (I think) Bill Trinnen. Just before the doors closed an analyst and his pal got in but obviously failed to notice Iwata stood there at the back. This guy then started sounding off about Nintendo's strategy, calling out Iwata and saying what he thought Nintendo should do and how a load of stuff at the briefing was all wrong etc etc.
By now a hush had descended on the lift and I cast a sidelong glance to Iwata wondering if he was going to pipe up and humiliate this guy. Stupid thought
He was just stood there with Bill and they were both grinning like kids as this guy kept on. Finally the guy thought something must be up as the rest of us in the lift were now grinning like crazy looking at him, wondering if he would notice who was in the lift with him. Finally he did, turning around and looking at Iwata wide-eyed obviously thinking "shit wtf have I just done here omg".
Iwata just grinned even harder (as if that was possible) and patted him on the arm and made perfectly clear through his expression that everything was cool. The rest of us just cracked up and walked off one anecdote richer about what a lovely man Iwata was.
It is so rare that we get a senior exec with his demeanour, sincerity and genuine passion for his work. I really hope one part of his legacy is that we will see more people like him rising to the top. RIP Satoru Iwata, you really did a great job.

And as fans we'll have to support the people who will continue it.

Evilore already commented on a possible logo change. He's working on it so it's best to stop pestering the staff about it.
