I agree & I don't doubt that Nintendo wouldn't do something like that, but with the amiibo it would enable more people to have something to help (in a physical sense) remember him by.
People have asked for Nintendo staff amiibos before, Nintendo could make a amiibo & have all profits going to a cancer charity, of course release enough to stop scalping.

I woke up today at around 9 am to the news. It's nearly 20 hours later and I'm still up, remembering President Iwata.
Two pieces of media got me. The first is the seminal GDC 2005 keynote, with the iconic "Heart of a Gamer" quote:

Up to this point, I'd only ever read "Iwata: (laughs)" in Iwata Asks. I never doubted his sincerity in the way the interviews were presented but here I saw it unadulterated.
My partner told me this, so I'll say it here. Iwata knew what gaming is supposed to be: fun, passionate, and shared.

What a shame. Hope he has found peace.
I agree, but at least we're all talking so much about the man himself and of all the happy memories we have of him/his work, whereas the rainbow sphere is just sitting there.
No worries, peace and love all around. We'll miss you Mr. Iwata!!!
I won't be surprised if all the game in development at Nintendo until his passing get a "Special thanks" for him

It makes things seem much worse when the fanbase was giving Nintendo a really hard time for their lackluster E3 performance considering the dude was fighting for his life. I don't want to say the criticism was unjustified but in retrospect I'm sure Iwata gave it his all.
I've just made myself feel worse.
The one statement I think everyone in the world agrees with.
Dude was fighting for his life... and we complained about not enough Zelda and a Metroid spin-off.
... And he still apologized to US. Because it still mattered so much to him. WE mattered to him.

Never played any Nintendo but never had a doubt that this man was a legend who contributed to the industry and the world immensely, and brought joy to millions. Have a great journey Mr. Iwata, wherever it is to, and know that your life may have been cut short, but your legacy can never be.
Change your Mii's color to black. Play some games. Celebrate Iwata's achievements.

Being part of a community like this makes the loss easier to deal with. It seems sad, but I feel like Iwata's death is like losing someone close to me - his name is everywhere in many games which were huge parts of my childhood. I'm really glad that Nintendo pursue things like Virtual Console, it means we'll always have his incredible work and legacy to play and share for a very long time.

Changed all of mine a few years ago but never finished Crystal because I had to grind before the E4 and didn't want to.
Last night I beat them at 35-40. It helped, especially seeing his name in the credits and knowing what he did for the series that I can unquestionably call my favorite.

Iwata is one of the most inspiring people I have ever heard about. Even while running the biggest and oldest game company, he remained humble and dedicated to his craft and to serving the fans.
He dreamed of a better future for this industry.
I think the best way to preserve his memory is to be inspired by his actions. We may not all reach our dreams or aspirations. To those few lucky enough to get there: don't let go of the person you were before.
