Fighting Games Weekly | July 20-26 | No Gods or Kings, Only Tears

First off, Poongko is Korean. Secondly, I'm Asian myself lol(read my name again). It's just that most of the top USF4 players that come over to the US a lot are so stoic. It's not just Daigo. It's also Fuudo, Bonchan, Kazunoko, Momochi(as I just mentioned), Sako, and more.

I was just hoping to see Momochi look thrilled or something like that. But he was his usual self. I think he said that if he won EVO he would kiss Choco on stage. Obviously that didn't happen. That idea came from Zhi wanting them to kiss on camera during a interview, but they wouldn't do it.

Lol, that was also 4 years ago. Momochi should marry Choco already.

How about Santarou bopping Louffy when everyone was saying he was crazy for challenging the Evo champ.

Told yall he knows what he's doing.

That shit was dead when you had people like Poongko looking like Stone Cold Steve Austin chuggin a red bull and taking off his shirt in 2011 or whatever.

Apparently everyone is Daigo. I mean all asians look the same right? So obviously they all act the time as well.

Poongko isn't Japanese lol

Kinda undid some of your own point there

I love Smug's reactions to stuff like this lol.

Also for foreigners in general, I'm glad that Infiltration isn't as stoic looking as he once was.

As for Evo, I feel like I shouldn't have set my goal to just make it out of pools. I did it for two games, but I should've set my sights higher lol
I want to start training again a little later into the year. Grind some matchups in Xrd a bit better and study videos.

I didn't now that. He thinks losers brackets it's a mess to track for people following the tournament.
And thinks that if the player coming from winners at GF falls to losers it's not mentally the same that going to losers at other points in the bracket.

It's hard to track individuals because there's so many of them. Dota 2 and CSGO have similar formats. And it's very easy to track them. Fighting games weakness in terms of spectating is that matches happen off stream.

Also, there's many tournaments where a player comes back from losers, and wins the tournament. If it was impossible, it wouldn't exist. If there was a game that clear dominance was obvious a better format would be created.

well I don't think Infiltration was stoic, he was just really shy which is a polar opposite than how he is now.

I had a lot of fun at the afterparty. Drank a lot and that shit wasn't cheap b, $10 per beer .. woke up and I knew I dun goofed.

Funny seeing Kazunoko walk around the club in circles wasted. Daigo at the club too :wow:

The finals were mad hype, I love the Elena hate

Smh @ anyone hating on KBR's win. Dude deserved it and Marvel ain't America's game no more.

Nice meeting all the Gaffers.

Went 3-3 in MM's. 2 of them I went in knowing I'd probably get bopped. the 3rd one I got hustled by an El Fuerte.

Indoor smoking is some 3rd world country type shit tho, y'all gotta cut it out.

Can't wait to go again next year and get bopped in pools ;(

I'd really like to know what happened there. Luffy didn't even seem like he was playing seriously and before the event asked to call off the sidebets on Twitter.

Yeah, very true. It's funny how he went from that unstoppable guy that used mostly Akuma/Ryu, and he's changed so much.
Definitely one of my favorite players for sure, especially with the subs he brings out for top 8.

I think people don't like Hulk because like Phoenix and Morrigan, if someone good is using him you have to play the matchup. You can't use your braindead stuff that works against 90% of the cast when you face a good Hulk player. That gets people mad.

i know hes not Japanese, but it wasn't just Japanese players that everyone assumed were all humble and quiet.

Some players get hype, some don't. i don't think it has anything to do with where you're born

Filipinoman and Justin Wong awkwardly jump around stage like idiots, Snake Eyez and Dieminion basically just smile, handshake and that's it.

He got wasted the day before and was mad hungover. Not a smart move but he still went through with the match. I told Santarouman at the after party that I lost money because of him.. dude always has a Kappa smile on I swear smfh

I only watched some of the Luffy MM with Santarouman. Watched to where Santarouman got like 8 wins and went back to the MKX top 8.

The only person I met from GAF was Twilt. I will forever never meet Smeds, even though he lives like 30 minutes away from my place in Socal I think lol

Oh, and then there's Q which I think I saw. I should've said hi.

Or better, bait that shit out as necessary instead of pressing buttons too much, lol. It might be me but I feel like there's a distinct lack of that in Marvel because it's such an offense-orientated game and you can overwhelm folks so you don't need baits on that level.

this happened in every set every single player fought vs KBR in top 16 if they were allowed to establish their offense. every good player does it, it's just that KBR is both very good at reading those baits and hulk is very good at punishing those baits.

like, if anyone wants and if the footage is available i can distinctly point out when it happens for all of the top16 matches. it's really easy to spot because you either see dash up->dash back/jump back + assist or assist->dash up->pause->normals or dash up->press low profile normal that crouches haggar 500 times

So how hard is it to bait Haggar assist as opposed to something like CapCom or Psylocke assist? (or maybe just the latter since I think CapCom has slight vulnerability at the very start)

Pretty easy with a high mobility character. Players of any level are trying to do that all game especially those players who use teams that need to rushdown (ie. Justin Wong's entire game plan against KBR's team is based around pure footsies and baits).

Short characters can punish Haggar as well because he's vulnerable at his feet and his arms whiff over short crouching characters like Wolverine. So someone like Wolverine can go in and just cr.L if he thinks Haggar is coming.

EVO was a total blast, shoutouts to all the GAFfers I met! Really glad I decided to attend this year. GGXrd, Marvel, SF4 and Melee were all really exciting to watch in person. Wish I could have done better gamewise (I got out of Smash 4 pools in losers at least), but oh well, still had a blast. :P

Well that was fun. Got wasted, played hella games, watched some good shit, and bought some cool shit. Best EVO in a few years, that's for sure. Also solidified that I'm only going to attend EVOs on the strip. Off-strip EVOs don't compare.

Was nice to meet everyone I did, I forgot everyone's name but it was good to talk to y'all. Shoutouts to Renta for your gdlk hospitality and to Vulva for being as Canadian as possible.

Also got on stream, which was hype, but the combo of 8am hangover, not paying attention to my Rage Art, and never having touched T7 before made me look like a dope while playing. :(

idk, i don't know much about marvel 2 besides stuff that's been told to me so i'm not in any position to make statements on that

i will say that while baiting out haggar seems easy on paper (you scare them into doing it, then take advantage of the cooldown) it's a lot scarier in action due to the threat of the point char and the risk you inherently take by potentially giving up your offense or putting yourself into a defensive position that is hard to recover from.

i had a lot more written out on hulk/haggar, kbr's playstyle and gcyoshi's position but i erased it it bc i'm not sure how pertinent it is to this
i don't think gcyoshi is technically wrong on the details but his conclusion is rather silly, like it's abnormal for the game or something

Fucking LOL, amazon hasn't sent me the Beta code yet, so I go to cancel my copy of SFV and reorder, and it won't let me cancel either.

Jesus Christ, Amazon. Definitely going to call them tomorrow.

Yeah Momochi is like Daigo-lite when it comes to showing emotion. Everyone is different. All someone has to do is watch Topangatv once and that myth would die off, but they don't and won't.

Yeah you should definitely hit them up about it. I was kinda surprised when Amazon sent the code to my email. I expected to get the code the day of the beta not 3 days before
