Do you know who Hideki Kamiya is? He made Resident Evil 2, Viewtiful Joe, Okami, Devil May Cry, Wonderful 101, and on.

He is at the head of Scalebound, and he has said making this game is one his dreams because he used to love dragons when he was a child.

Until we see the gameplay and not a CGI trailer (which was created at the same time as that 'fantasy' Phantom Dust one that wasn't representative of the game at all), I'll keep the hype down low. The guy has pedigree, but I'm not sold on his games by reputation alone. Platinum are working on so many projects at the moment:

  • Scalebound
  • Nier 2
  • Transformers: Devastation
  • StarFox: Zero

I do wonder if they are overstretching themselves.

Sigh. No way we're getting Metal Gear Rising 2 any time soon, if at all then.

Cant wait to see Scalebound and Crackdown!! MS's E3 showing was amazing, and this show should be equally as sick!

Won't be able to watch this live so I'll follow along on GAF. Hopefully the gameplay demos are better than what they showed at E3.

Nier 2 probably hasn't even gone into production yet and they are just working on the campaign on Starfox I believe. PG has proven they can develop and ship multiple quality projects around the same time period in the past. They also partner heavily with console publishers so I imagine they are getting additional help from MS and Nintendo. I'm not worried.

Scalebound has seemingly been in development the longest of all of these and probably has at least a year left, give or take a few months. Nier 2 didn't seem that far along, given SB is a new IP MS are heavily investing in, I doubt MS would be very happy if Platinum signed a bunch of other projects that were overstretching them, I'm sure they are managing their projects just fine.

Hype train ready?
Honestly, I don't think we are hyped enough. Phil said they'd have stuff that matches their E3 showing. In the past, Gamescom has been like an after thought for Xbox conferences. E3 was always like a Superbowl, while Gamescom being a pre-season friendly. I think now that will change, and we aren't even prepared for it. That may be good, though, having expectations low. But I am readying myself for another Superbowl, I believe!

Or I could be wrong.

It's on at 2am here in NZ and I'm still considering getting up for it. Hopefully it'll be worth feeling like shit at work! Nothing a coffee or 5 won't fix I guess

Really stoked for this. Hopefully it pushes me over the edge and compels me to scratch that "BUY AN XBOX ONE"-itch I've been having for a few months now.

It's a new character action game directed by Hideki Kamiya. What's there to get?

Do we know this for sure? I hope it's not a character action game to be honest.

Numerous signs point to it being an epic-scale (sorry) adventure game not unlike Ōkami or Zelda. Microsoft dropped the fact that Kamiya's favourite game is A Link to the Past at E3, and Ken Lobb has also hinted that the game may be less linear and larger in scope than the usual Kamiya action fare.

The interviewer speculated that Scalebound might be an open-world RPG, to which Lobb replied: "Really good guess."

I'm sure it'll still have some crazy action in it, but I'm expecting something more like an open-world adventure title.

Here is an updated hype list. I've removed item#18 as it is too unrealistic (after the last thread on parity clause I think MS is unfortunately completely oblivious to what makes the clause bad). And I added items 24 and 25.

Here is what I'm hoping for from gamescom:

1) Extended Quantum Break demo. Finally provide a solid release date.
2) Extended Scalebound demo - we finally find out what genre the game will fall under
3) Extended Crackdown demo. Confirm that the game is not online only.
4) Halo 5 delayed one month to add splitscreen co-op in campaign and multiplayer
5) Splosion Man 2 announced from Twisted Pixel
6) Rise Of The Tomb Raider confirmed to have zero multiplayer achievements
7) Marvel, Capcom, and Microsoft announce unprecedented partnership to revive Marvel vs Capcom 4. Cross-platform multiplayer between Steam and XB1.
8) Gabe Newell and Phil Spencer come out on stage and confirm another unprecedented partnership to revive Half Life 3, Portal 3, and Left 4 Dead 3.
9) Rare reveals that Sea Of Thieves is not a free-to-play MMO. Confirms without a doubt that it is a shared world game that can be played with co-op but its story can also be enjoyed alone.
10) One last patch to finally fix all of MCC's issues
11) Alan Wake 2 announced
12) Alan Wake 1 remastered including all DLC and American Nightmare
13) D4 Season 2 announced
14) Rare announces Conker's Bad Fur Day 2 and Banjo Kazooie 3 are in early concept stages
15) Microsoft announces that they found a new developer for Phantom Dust and have revived the "not cancelled but not in active development" game
16) Microsoft announces XB1 will start to get more Japanese games. We will stop missing out on games like Guilty Gear, Persona 5, Tales of Xilia, etc...
17) Microsoft announces it has completely patched up relations and un-burned all bridges with Super Giant Games and Team Meat. Super Meat Boy, Bastion, Binding Of Isaac, and Transistor all announced for XB1
18) MS completely abolishes parity clause and issues public apology to indie devs
19) Phil Fish and Phil Spencer come on stage to announce revival of Fez 2
20) All issues with 360 BC revealed to be fixed (multi-disc games confirmed to work, performance issues resolved, confirm all publishers are on-board)
21) Sunset Overdrive 2 and Titanfall 2 announced
22) Sequels to Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon announced
23) The Witness port announced for XB1
24) Right before the curtains close, Spencer says "and there's one more thing to show you". Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro come on stage to announce the revival of Silent Hills
25) Playable Teaser port downloadable from the XB1 storefront as soon as the conference is over.

You guys and the parity clause keep piling onto something that isn't as big as you make it out to be anymore.

Yep, true. Just look at the list of upcoming indie games on the console.

By the way, most probably the new Deck13 game will show up at their conference.

4) Halo 5 delayed one month to add splitscreen co-op in campaign and multiplayer

Putting Halo in November will kill it faster than its probably going to be killed also the have Tomb Raider in November so nope.

Is this a joke post ?

I am really excited for Crackdown both for the game and the tech. Really can't envision that whole server-calculated physics thing working but the main tech/engine dev is Cloudgine so it can't be completely cut.

The fact that we don't yet know who is developing the game part is worrying.

Not sure why they are doing this at a Euro presser, the console is dead there. They should of showed the games at e3.

It's not like the american gaming press isn't covering it, though.

Also, Microsoft needs more succes in Europe, so it makes sense.

MS cannot afford to sit on their backsides, especially when it comes to Europe. Whilst it is pretty much dead in Germany, unlike Japan, these is still a decent chance to make some waves in Europe.

The UK market for instance, is absolutely vital and a strong Gamescom (and even E3) showing will help greatly in their efforts there.

Mate, at the end of the day it all boils down to showing off great games and MS had a good E3 and with Gamescom, they can really hammer home just how good their lineup is.

No longer is it just a dudebro console when you have the likes of Scalebound,Phantom Dust (hopefully!) Recore, Cuphead, Sea of Thieves etc gracing the console.

MS have to reiterate their gaming focus and the diversity of their lineup. Their 2015 lineup may look like more Halo and Forza but these two titles look EXTREMELY promising by their own lofty standards and next year, that diversity kicks in. E3 reinforced the immediate future this year and Gamescom instills confidence in 2016.

That's why Gamescom is absolutely crucial, regardless of which territory its being held at.
