What if the green sections is just non-alpha characters? That plays into the silicon era rumors and would leave the roster looking like:

Ryu
Ken
Chun
Bison
Cammy
Juri
Alex
Urien

Nash
Birdie
R.Mika
Karin

Necalli
New
New
New.
I see that great minds think alike.
So I guess the launch roster will be...
  1. Ryu
  2. Chun-Li
  3. Nash
  4. M. Bison
  5. Cammy
  6. Birdie
  7. Ken
  8. Necalli
  9. Alex
  10. Urien
  11. Karin
  12. R. Mika
  13. Juri
  14. Rachid
  15. Zen
  16. Laura

We're getting 4 newcomers.
A bit of a stretch, but...
  • Green: Mainline SF Characters (2, 3, & 4)
  • Blue: Alpha Characters
  • Purple: Newcomers

This game just looks amazing. I can't wait to play this at 4K and tap that screen shot button. That Pickle + Hanma Yujiro hybrid.

I think we've all sort of assumed that to be the case since Ken's trailer.
Which reminds me, didn't Ken Bogard say that the then-unnamed 4th newcomer (who we now know is Necalli) was the boss of SFV? If so, that may mean that my gut feeling is right & Necalli is the SFV final boss.

Yeah, I think he said that but I'm not sure. He's obviously evil, he has a V on his face, he's a mad genius or whatever, and he seems to have emerged from an ancient illuminati tomb. Seems like clear boss material.

Why would they reveal the final boss so early?

He should always be the last character that gets revealed. OR maybe they did it to dismiss the rumour? Idk.

I originally thought that myself but I believe the boss thing was actually from a list that'd incorporated KB's stuff rather than KB himself. That list had more than 16 characters on it though, so it's considered debunked by most :P

I have a feeling that Urien is going to be the final boss. Necalli will be his subordinate and have something to do with the Illuminati, though.

Necali, being an ancient soul-devouring warrior, doesn't seem like he'd be a subordinate to Urien. Unless, Necali is some kind of ancient Illuminati weapon that Urien awakened to get rid of Shadaloo. But, that's just empty speculation.

Given his stage, an Illuminati connection seems definite.

How long did it take for Seth to be revealed? Was he selectable in Arcade SFIV? Bison's on the cover of SF2.

Well Bison is way too far off , I really doubt they even did character reveals back then.
I dont remember Seth very well , but SF4 was always shown as SF2 + new comers. I dont know when exactly seth was revealed , maybe he was the last?

They started this whole reveal characters thing only recently.
I remember the SFxT boss was the last reveal , or even for the recent other FGs the boss reveal has been the last one. Or what about MvC?

Left side: USF4 vets, Top Right: New, Bottom Right: Non-USF4 vets makes the most sense.

It's unlikely that the box of 8 is all SF2 characters- looking at who's remaining:

Guile- Probably not making the initial cut w/ Charlie there, Defensive charge character
E. Honda- Hyper-defensive charge character
Blanka- Newbie from Brazil strongly suggests no.
Sim- Newbie from India strongly suggests no, hyper-defensive playstyle
Zangief- We already have two grappler/semi-grapplers so far. Could happen though, since he's so iconic.
Balrog- Charge character
Vega- Charge character
Sagat- Defensive character
T. Hawk- Necalli is incredibly similar in moveset and in parts of his sillouette
Fei Long- Name's on the buses in the China stage.
Dee Jay - Charge Character. He's Dee Jay.

The faster SF2/SF3-esque pacing of SFV just makes a ton of these guys a bad fit in this game engine without a pretty sizable rework to their playstyle.

Doesn't Charlie and Bison play differently to before. Also the above characters being defensive does not mean they can't be defensive on SFV. Finally they can easily make any of the characters play different in SFV. Also why can't we have charge characters. Finally we have already seen some characters changed from charged to QCF with Birdie and Charlie.

Necalli looks so good. I don't think he is but if he does end up being the final boss i would be fine. The dude has his own thing going and isnt a generic looking copy-cat pos like Seth.

it would be the perfect game if this is the full roster. Mika, Urien and Alex back again would make me so happy.

Charlie does, likely to differentiate him from Guile. I just can't see both making the roster alongside Ken/Alex. Bison's been altered as well, but that was a "we don't want lame scissor corner pressure bison" redesign/re imagining.

Sim can easily be changed from defensive TO super ranged offensive with divekicks.

Guile seems like someone who will appear in the story and then come as DLC guaranteed.

The stages were part of the roster to me
I miss stages like this

maxresdefault.jpg

I really miss character-specific stages, too. I think it somewhat boils down to stages being more resource-intensive for 3D games than 2D ones were. Just guessing here, but I think making a 3D environment takes a lot more work, relatively speaking, than it used to. Old 2D stages wee mostly flat layers with not a lot of animation compared to the 2D srites

Why the assumption that Alex will make it in. Don't we already have enough semi grappler with Necalli and Birdie. If there is another I'd expect a full on grappler like Zangief. Guile has a better chance there is no defensive charge based zoning character in the game yet. Also his inclusion makes sense for the story too.

I also think the character specific stage thing is probably linked to the ideas of DLC as then they'd have to basically add a new stage every time they add a new character to keep it up. By having stages and characters seperate they can just do them at their own pace and not have to hold characters back while their stage is being made or whatever :3

I'd be okay with Necalli being the final boss. Maybe he could be permanently in his V-trigger form during the final boss fight.

I just want to see 3S characters already.

I honestly dont know why they save them for last every freaking time. Is it just a timeline thing?

Show the SF2 characters first , then Alpha , then 3S.

Its been like this ever since SSF4 then again with SFxT and now with SF 5.

Chronological order, makes sense at least.

I'm now actually scared of a Yun/Yang reveal this weekend. :-P

Don't understand the R.Mika love, she has the worst design of ALL the sf roster, i find the design Chessy and Pervy type looking character, her movesets ontop of that is even worse

Karin on the other hand is perfect, way better suited

If it was chronological then it means we're only getting new SFV characters from here on in :P

Still, that reminds me of a point I brought up before...

Note that there WAS room for new characters on this pic, but now that we have the first 8 there's no streams/streaks for any additional characters. Am I the only one who finds it odd that this pic seems like it was designed to only ever show half the cast?

There are people out there who like Mai Shiranui, so Mika having fans shouldn't be a surprise.
Decapre the best character in SF4 series confirmed :P #kappa
Well... she is really fun to play, at least.

eh. She hasn't appeared in a long while and is rather unique in the franchise as female grappler . Plus I think this game can use more quirky characters right now.

And honestly her design isn't any more perverted or revealing than Cammy (who I know people don't like either but she is in the game).

Simple to answer as far as I'm concerned:
a) she's currently the only female grappler in Street Fighter
b) her outfit is kinda over the top but it actually represents the outfits of the wrestling style she's based off pretty well. You can just google 'shimmer' and 'wrestling' but here's some examples of the stuff they wear:

Necalli looks so good. I don't think he is but if he does end up being the final boss i would be fine. The dude has his own thing going and isnt a generic looking copy-cat pos like Seth.

Some people keep insisting he has a Wolverine moveset, but aside from the tornado claw, and the dash that is vaguely similar, I'm not seeing it at all. He looks like a pseudo grappler/rushdown hybid. Like a much faster Abel or something. But how many characters have a shoryu type move, and how many have a "dash across the screen and hit/swipe" move across all of the Capcom games are there? A hell of a lot.

People like R Mika's design and style. You find it cheesy and pervy and don't like her fighting style, but others may not agree. That style of dress isn't that over the top in the realm of her fighting style

I'm sorry but if those pics were characters i would still find them design hideous, frankly R.mika is just a over sexualised character that just doesn't come off as genuine

Also Mai has way more substance and style that its not even debatable, she is also attached to the main cast and is the chun li of fatal fury.

Karin on the other can still fit the mold of a semi grappler with a few moves, but oh well mika well most likely go in

So good.

Just a thought, what if Necalli is the game's boss?

Many people actually thought same for awhile.

Nope.

I have a feeling that Urien is going to be the final boss. Necalli will be his subordinate and have something to do with the Illuminati, though.

Ironically, I did mentioned that too. It's very interesting to see who is the final boss in Street Fighter V. I seriously doubt that it would be Bison again.

I'm not particularly sure why you're making this an either/or for Karin and Mika. Most people who would like Mika in also tend to want Karin in from the posts I've seen and my personal stance on it :P
Including both makes extra sense when you consider that Karin is apparently an off-shoot of Mika designed to compliment her:
Mika was created to introduce a "tricky and technical character" into the series, though she was not a female wrestler in the beginning. After her development, the team introduced Karin to provide a contrast to her. - "An Interview with Noritaka Funamizu". Game Informer

As for letting fan-service 'ninja' Mai off the hook while saying Mika 'just doesnt come off as genuine' even though she's actually faithful to what she's based off strikes me as odd, but whatever. You've likely made up your mind about this character and I doubt any sleuthing or research on my part will sway you :P

I want Mika on the roster because:

A. Female grappler. I play and enjoy grapplers and I would love to have another option

B. Her design looks ridiculous -- just the way I like my characters. Super serious characters (see: the majority of the MK cast) don't appeal to me. Fighting games are fun. I want a fun character to play as. Give me something that looks outlandish and I'm all the happier for it. Give that character comedic mannerisms and that's even better. (RIP Hakan)

While I'd prefer Haggar to be the grappler of SFV's base roster, R. Mika would be my second choice to fill that role.
