So what is 'early 2016'? May would May 6 months. Will it be less than that?
Yeah pretty much all of this, I can't believe how badly this game is being manged, exclusivity alone was BS but now that Uncharted has been pushed back and they announced the date the same as Fallout 4... I just think the game is going to get crushed. Smartest thing they could do is push it back to January but I don't think Microsoft will let them do that. Plus it being cross generation just really puts me off in general and I'm just doubting it will be anywhere near as good as the last one."First on Xbox".
See? Is it that hard, Microsoft? No deception, no misleading, no confusion, no backtracking, no discombobulation, no vagueness, no dancing around the issue, no coyness, no smug smirks, no shadiness, no muddling, no annoyance.
I still can't believe how hard they tap-danced around the exclusivity thing for months before all parties involved gave out a muddles "well, um, you never know. It's a timed kind of thing, for sure, but we can't talk about it."
Still, a year's wait is going to really cut into sales, and announcing PC and PS4 versions before the Xbox One version is out is going to cut into those sales too... and it's heading right into a Holiday jam-packed with much bigger, much more hyped, much more exciting titles. Same day as Fallout 4 is insane.
Making this exclusive to Xbox One was such a mistake. SE need more influence over their western subsiduries rather than letting them make a mess like this.
It hit almost 2 million on 360.Final Fantasy XIII sold a little under 500K in the US opening month on 360. I'm honestly not sure it even hit 1 million copies on 360 worldwide.
I was not corrected at all. I was thrown a bunch of info about Type-O and other shit. FFXIII sold well on 360. Many people tried *very* hard to avoid admitting that. Perhaps you were one of them.
How about a bet? I'd be willing to put down $50 it sells at least a million on XB1.
Not really. TR is a much more open game than Uncharted has been up to this point. I think that's about to change though with U4. From a gameplay perspective, it looks much more interesting to me than RotTR.

So was this a Crystal Dynamics call or what. I'm just curious who was actually in charge of this decision. It couldn't have been the president of Square Enix.
Surprise Surprise.
So it'll be (pulling numbers out of my assumption):
November 10th, 2015 for XB1
February 9th, 2016 on PC
November 15th, 2016 on PS4 alongside XB1's GOTY Edition (lol).
I'm sure they knew. They set up the deal.

Phil got his monies worth. By fall 2016 the game will be old, musty, and spoiled to hell and back.

I played both and I don't remember TR being particularly more open than U2/3. Open areas for fights in between platforming bits and narrative choke points. They are definitely in the same genre and are trying to capture the same audience (cinematic TPS fans).
How is this any more shitty than Sony paying money to keep ffvII off of the Xbox for an undisclosed amount of time? Deals like this really suck and alienate a portion of the audience, no matter what company does it, it's shitty for gamers.
I dont think quality has anything to do with it.
I can't say if it's a mistake as a single deal but it looks fucking weird with all their Japanese stuff focusing on PS then this one big deal out of nowhere for Xbox from the west.Making this exclusive to Xbox One was such a mistake. Except FF7 Remake isn't confirmed for Xbox. Safer to assume PS4 first, PC after, just like SF5.How is this any more shitty than Sony paying money to keep ffvII off of the Xbox for an undisclosed amount of time? It is for casual Tomb Raider fans such as myself. I enjoyed Tomb Raider DE but when it comes out the same day as Fallout...ya, I'm only getting one and it's not Tomb Raider. It releasing the same day as Fallout 4 is no cause for concern to be honest. Tomb Raider is a much bigger/well known franchise anyways. At the end of the day though, even I can't compare the releases as it is comparing apples and oranges. Fallout 4 is a multi-platform game releasing on 3 platforms while Rise of the Tomb Raider is a timed-exclusive releasing on the Xbox One on the same day.
At least Sony didn't act like it was a full exclusive.
That was my first thought as well. But I think I'll wait for DF's Face-Off first to see how the framerate is. If it's 30fps on XB1 then lol no way, but if it's ~50 like Definitive Edition then I might get it on XB1 just to play it in the home theater.PC. Do it.
It hit almost 2 million on 360.
Come on man. really?
Why would it not be released on the system that's selling the most consoles? Plus it's Tomb Raider, a franchise that has been associated with PlayStation since the first game.
This is all very true.Well, there are certainly factors that guarantee that a late port will sell worse than a day one port. Maybe I buy on the other platform by then. Maybe by the time it gets to my platform better stuff has come out. Maybe the allure of it being the new hotness has completely worn off and other and time hasn't been favorable to it post release. There are probably other factors at well that tell you that the audience for potential PS4 buyers is much worse one year later.
However, I think it's also insanely unfair to suggest that nobody wants the game a year later. Why would that be the case? If I like Tomb Raider but don't have a One or a PC, the PS4 release would be my first opportunity to play it. And if the game has been well regarded up to that point, why would I pass on it? Because Square Enix insulted my honor by giving me MS's table scraps? This is an honest question by the way. But I just feel like if I care more about having fun playing video games than being invested in the console wars, I'd still want to play the game if I was ever interested in it to begin with.

Very surprised they announced this before the game's Xbox launch.
the PS4 version will probably be the GOTY/ultimate edition or whatever. LOL
everything about the business decisions behind this game just haven't made a whole lot of sense to me.
Very interested to see the November NPD numbers on this game.
as far as releasing holiday 2016 on PS4 im okay with this as long as its away from Horizon. really enjoyed the last tomb raider game am excited to eventually play this one.
