Rock Band 4 or Guitar Hero Live?

the setlist on guitar hero is way better in my taste, more bands that i listen, but the new guitar is a hold back due the fact that i still have all the instruments, so i will just get rock band and wait till they release the bands i like. real shame =(

Rock Band 4, because of DLC library, Harmonix and Metropolis pt 1.
And I don't have the urge "be on stage" with some acted band I don't want to be a part of.
Just gimme those wacky customizable characters.

Guitar Hero Live is being made by the developers of the DJ Hero games, easily two of the best music games of last gen.

Wait, Guitar Hero Live is being made by the people that made the DJ Hero games? Oh my god this game just shot up on my radar, I wish DJ Hero got more love then it did, it was an amazing series.

Rock Band 4 is a no-brainer.

1) It supports my 100s of already purchased songs.
2) Harmonix has been better with post launch support and DLC.
3) Harmonix represents quality over quantity.
4) It's got full band support. I only really care about drums.

Pretty much this, word for word.

This is the first time since Harmonix started up Rock Band that I'm thinking about going with Guitar Hero. Doing "chords" on the guitar sounds awesome. But even then I might still wind up with Rock Band as well, now that the two series are going for completely different things, all guitar versus the usual band party thing (which remains fun, even if it sounds like 4 isn't innovating much at all).

This. Better luck next time, Activision!

Rock Band 4 will be my choice. I really wish I could get it for PS4 as thats my console of choice these days. I will settle for the Xbox One version as compatibility will my hundreds of DLC songs is just too strong of a draw for me to pass up .

Rock Band 4 is pre-ordered - full band set. Rock Band is such a known quantity and I trust Harmonix to not screw up what I enjoy about the series. It's one of the few games I'll actually pre-order these days.

I'd be up for getting Guitar Hero Live, depending on people's reactions. I think I need to try the new guitar before I buy it.

There's room for both in my life.

Neither

I have no interest in any of the guitar hero live setlist, and RB4 dropping online play and midi support is a deal breaker.

I'll stick with my 360 and RB3

They're both gonna suck tbh. I really dont think either will have the long lasting support their predecessors did. It's way too soon for a music instrument revival.

Rock band will. Lots of people still play it to this day. They are wisely only planning to put out one game and just build on it from there.

Harmonix has really done everything right in terms of supporting their existing base.

I wrote this a while ago, but it's still relevant:

Disagree. Rock Band 3 released 5 years ago. Guitar Hero was 6 years ago. That is just enough time for audiences to wax poetic over it, but recent enough that it wouldn't fall into obscurity. With the wide variety of new Rock music over the last 5-6 years, Rock Band can definitely succeed in a new generation, but they have to advertise this successfully as the ultimate party game. I went to a BBQ over the weekend and everyone was playing Just Dance on Wii U. The conversation then turned to Rock Band which had a very lively discussion. The main sticking point of the conversation to me was the fact that the people who remembered the game the most fondly were the casual gamers who weren't into hardcore gaming. That's the crowd Harmonix will need to appeal to to save themselves and Mad Catz.

I'm prioritizing Rock Band 4. It's not giving me everything I want, but it's giving me the important stuff (classic GH/RB-style gameplay, backwards compatibility, character customization). The new Guitar Hero guitar could be fine, but I'm not really impressed by anything that FreeStyle Games is putting forward, least of all the always-online DLC.

I might get Guitar Hero Live if it's good and I can get it at a good price, but I'm making no promises.

Having zero character and band customization absolutely killed any hype i had for GHL.

I trust the DJ Hero guys, but the new GH is also extremely inefficient at being readable with the noteskin they are using for the notes. Flatter notes are easier to see in mass vs vertical ones.

Not gonna lie, I thought it was going to be an easy choice towards RB4, but GH footage and new guitar seem really nice.

Anyway, I'm going with RB4 since I'm pretty deep in their ecosystem, having almost 1500 extra songs on the 360. Hopefully almost everything will eventually transfer. But I think Harmonix is effectively taking a risk scrapping online modes and sticking to the old presentation.

Yeah, the new Guitar Hero note charts look cluttered and confusing. Toymachine said a while back that some people thought DJ Hero charts looked hard to read (I disagree), but at least those charts were two-dimensional.

Rock Band 4 on X1 because that's where all my DLC is, GHLive on PS4.

hahahaha, that's exactly what I'm doing. This way my cousin can still play Guitar Hero with me and not worry about hundreds of songs being gone.

JUST ORDERED!

I pity those who shop at GameStop......20% discount, so many rewards and shit at best buy, only ended up spending $90 for the bundle. To top it off using paypal I get double rewards on my credit card so its like I spent $180 worth in points.....plus I get points for buying it at best buy and it just keeps stacking like crazy!

the readability is fine but don't expect yourself to be sightreading on Veteran within a hour. Also this is a game that will punish sloppy playing. If you have long weird fingers like me you are going to end up pressing the wrong row a bunch of times.

Guitar Hero Live is such a strange beast, all the new gameplay decisions seem to be based on either Activision having no foresight or wanting to get it on every platform available. New Guitar/GHTV because they didn't bother to relicense the old songs, FMV because they can run it on iOS/Andriod; and yet it ends up feeling so much more new and fresh compared to Rock Band, even though HMX has been doing everything right for its fans over the long haul.

In the end though, I can't see either lighting the world on fire, either in sales or having the community of years past, so I'll probably go the Rock Band 4 route, just because it seems cheaper/safer.

Guitar Hero Live has me most interested at the moment.

I'm not invested into either ecosystem (no DLC and I think most of my rock bands were on the Wii) and the new guitar, FMV (really) and the TV channel have me interested while RB4 feels very much more of the same

Rockband 4 but is there no way to get game only? I am just going to go to a local game store and buy used guitars.

I believe you can get the digital version of the game at launch. I do not think they are selling a standalone disc, at least at launch.

Definitely Rock Band 4. The live action crap looks terrible, and the setlist seems poo so far. There's also the lack of DLC and no imports from previous games.

I don't trust Activision one bit.

Wonder how much GH DLC the people talking about "lack of import support" as a negative actually bought

Well isn't that just the root of a whole other problem? Why did so many more people buy RB DLC? Why was there so much more RB DLC?

These are important questions.

In addition to
Do I want to stare at Gorillaz-style custom characters or some weird loop of FMV let me see is it 1997 nope it's now, Rock Band it is

Because activision put their money into setlists and not so much into DLC because most people don't actually know what DLC even is. In the end did they make the right decision? Well with a few titles sure but the sustainability through DLC allowed Harmonix to survive.

If I want to play GH DLC I'll use my 360, I kept it around for that reason *shrug*

Yeah the DLC was pitiful, but I built a large library using disc-imports.

Expecting a Metallica GHTV channel tbh

Rock band 4 for me. Already got the full bundle pre ordered. At Best Buy of course

Also I'm going from PS3 to PS4 so I loose nothing.

Hmmm well I bought exactly zero DLC because I played on the Wii until GH was already dead and their DLC licenses were burned to the ground.

Rock Band I can still buy DLC from 2008 and enjoy today.
