I know this is probably wayyyy to early to talk about, but by having the engine in place with DQXI, are the chances good DQXII will see a release this gen on PS4 and maybe NX as well?
More than that technically if we count spin-offs. These: https://www.jp.playstation.com/blog/detail/1248/20150728_dq.html?tkgpscom=dc_dq_ps_tw_20150728
Plus DQ8 3DS and Monsters Joker 3.
If DQ11 bombs on console, i don't expect another one...Japanese devs have put themselves in pickle focusing on mobile, drawing away the console audience, and then trying to lead them back when the returns arent as great as they anticipated for mobile.
LMFAO - I wonder who the person in the comments section with the handle 'takaosmells' is, asking about DQXI on PS Vita.
What's your bar in terms of a bomb for this in the west on consoles?
below 150 thousand first month. For consoles in Japan in particular, i'm thinking they will be looking closely at the player base.
On the Japanese blogs, i'm already seeing tons of "not buying cause its not on PS3/Vita", "3DS is better cause its 3DS" ect.
And a whole lot of gloating about NX. It seems all there is these days is fanboy clashes between Nintendo fanboys and Sony fanboys in Japan. A whole lotta "wwww goki" and "wwwww boo-chan"
Wait, how much did the DS DQIX sell in the west?3DS version will probably sell a lot more in Japan, but it can still do well on PS4. Also, they have a Playstation version because they want to expand the franchise in the west, where in fact the PS4 version will probably sell more.

I'm surprised X and XI aren't coming to PS3, tbh. Heroes 2 and Builders will, so yeah, pretty strange. It seems weird to skip over them JUST so it comes out on PS4 in the west. It seems like there's potential for it backfiring.

Best fucking time of my life.
Yeh Sony has 3rd Party Productions now for the soul purpose of stuff like localizations and collaborations and such. So no doubt if SE won't do it, TPP will jump in and take care of it. Hell 99% of the responses to YOSP stating on twitter he can't wait to play DQXI on PS4 was people yelling for it to come out west lol. So no doubt it'll happen.
Yeah, Dragon Quest VIII is a very demanding game to emulate, along with Rogue Galaxy. Those 2 take beefy machines.

The more I think about it, the more I want (and expect) the PS4 and 3DS versions to be a bit more different that the presentation, and a bit more on the gameplay side. And I don't mean the combat which iwill be turn based.
From what we've seen, the PS4 version has a degree of verticality that 3DS doesn't have. This allows for more varied level design in the overworld and in the towns and dungeons. What I'd like to see is Square to use a diiferent approach for each version. Maybe in the dungeon 3DS you'd go left first, but you'd go in a different direction on PS4. You'll have puzzles on both versions, but they can be designed around the platforms they are on. Ultimately by and large the cast, narrative and basic structure of the machanics can be the same. But i'd like to see differences in other aspects as it differentiate's the two copies and gives me a reason to want both. Because if they are literally the same game bar the graphical difference, then I have no reason to care about anything other than the PS4 version, and the opposite will be true for people who get it on 3DS.
Give me little variations in puzzle, dungeon and general layout while keeping the core themes the same. I want a reason to buy both copies!
Sony won't have many chances at getting a heavy hitter to themselves ever again, in Japan. I wouldn't be shocked if it was Sony that openly requested SE to not even consider PS3.
So anyone think they're gonna go the DQ9 route for the game's probable StreetPass feature again?
I'd be in for that. General differences in gameplay and puzzles to make it worthwhile to play both versions. The question is to what extent.
This may not be the right thread for this, but there seem to be a lot of fans in here, so as someone that hasn't played a Dragon Warrior since IV, (and a half-hearted attempt at 7) where should I try to jump back in?

I wonder how upset Nintendo was as they watched the conference.

Why would they be upset? This stuff gets okayed with platform holders before announcements.
I fully expect different world desigb just looking at the city shown in the PS4 version. 3DS dungeons should follow the classic flat 3D design with a lot of turning the camera around while PS4 dungeons should go more DQ8's way but with some mild platformingThe more I think about it, the more I want (and expect) the PS4 and 3DS versions to be a bit more different than just the presentation, and a bit more on the gameplay side. Well if we look at it like this. Square and/or Sony wanted to push the PS4. Otherwise this game would be 3DS only. Also the console version is more than likely primarily for the West. If that's the case, then PS4 only makes sense as the PS3 version is a waste of time. They'd be better off with Xbox One, PC (and NX). Nevermind the fact UE4 doesn't run on PS3
Because of the clarification SE provided in PR? You're no doubt right though.
Art direction in the PS4 version is all over the place. Kind of a mess IMHO. Love the look of the 3DS version though.
Because mobile exists.
What does dominate mean in this case.
No one got the reference. :/DQXI isn't coming out on PS4 due to strong sales potential in Japan. If it were coming out to PS4 because of Japanese sales, it'd probably be on PS3 and Vita too. And not 3DS.

If that happens we're basically getting two new DQ games and thats awesome. Hopefully the 3DS version also makes it overseas.

I guess they won't be making any more expansions for the Wii version, maybe not even the WiiU version.

We're only on year 3 of the 10 promised for DQX Wii. I doubt it.Ōkami;173291427 said:Wonder how DQX will be managed from now on.

Sure, you can, but that chalkboard would look really clean since there's been nothing of note out on PS4. Which is of course the system's fault.
I am guessing they wanted that tease.
It's the kind of thing where Iwata would have come out on stage with Horii if not for, you know.
Yeah, but FFXI was a pretty big deal in the west.I'd be surprised if they don't. PS2 was supported for years. And if they are going to drop support for those platforms in the future, they'll announce it well ahead of time.
