Upgrade to Windows 10?

No, it doesn't. What you showed is there in Windows 8.1, along with what I showed.

Windows 10:

is the same as

Windows 8.1:

I'm pretty sure. I think that's what Entrecôte is trying to tell you as well.

It has the exact same utility as the deprecated UI that was in Vista-8.1. They replaced it with Modern UI but still kept the old control panel settings around for those who wanted to change text size only. The article you linked to (and the setting) changes both text AND UI scaling at the same time which is also in Windows 10 as:

I hope that is clear now.

Edit: I see I was beaten to the punch! Yes so in Windows 10 we have both old (my first shots) and new (previous and my post).

i saw the Windows 10 app icon, opened it then didnt click reserve. Instead i closed the window.. now the icon is missing.. im fucked?

Anyone in Canada have this go through Windows Update? Haven't seen a single thing yet that would indicate it's downloading. That Windows 10 icon in the taskbar is no longer there, and the only thing I have in Windows Update is: "Windows 10 upgrade reserved. We'll let you know when the upgrade is ready to be installed on this PC." Then it has a "learn more" link, but clicking it does nothing.

Check to see if you have a folder called $Windows.~BT in your system drive. I have the same notices you do and files are being downloaded into that folder.

Heroes of the Storm isn't running very well on W10 here and I am noticing some random stutter here and there on Life is Strange.

Yeah me too. I moved the files in softwaredownload, entered the prompt in admin mode, windows update downloaded windows 10 and... said I had to check something before upgrading. Now I'm back with the 'thanks for opting in, we are checking your hardware' message.

Actually, I'm getting the same thing. After starting the upgrade and downloading about 8 gbs of data, it defaulted to this screen:

3n9YZG4.png

Then it just defaulted to the waiting for update. And just an hour ago, the Window 10 message in update is completely gone.

The one interesting thing is that it mentioned windows insider. I was an insider but I deleted the partition and decided to upgrade my win8.1 box proper.

Well, I got the icon on my Win tablet and did the reserve thing. And now I'm just waiting for some sort of notification. What should I be looking for?

I never got an icon on my other Windows 8.1 device. I have all the updates and everything on it but just did not get an icon for a Windows 10 upgrade. Should I have gotten one on all my devices or is just certain ones getting the reservation icon?

So, I tried to download the ISO via the tool, but I get this error message:

"We couldn't update the system reserved partition."

Anyone else run into this?

Does anyone know what Windows N and KN are?

"N is made for the EU market and does not include Windows Media Player.
KN is made for the Korean Market and does not include Windows Media Player or an Instant Messenger."

Oh, NOW I do! It wasn't there last night but apparently created itself about half an hour ago. It's only 20 KB in size, though.

Yeah. I was able to upgrade last night. Used the reddit method before the 12 AM embargo.

Regretting downloading this.

Installed ok but cant connect to internet plus everything just feels a bit sloppier.

Upgrading is a bad idea from my experience (only do it to transfer the license), you got to fresh install afterwards. The upgrade leaves the system buggy and slow.

So which of these should I install. I'm in the UK, and have Win 8.1 Pro.

Windows 10 option. Then when it asks choose the Pro edition.

You don't need to do a fresh install, just do a system reset. That's going to erase everything (backup, of course) and put Win10 in a clean install state.

So should I now do a fresh install?

How do I delete what I have on my c: drive? Should I do that beforehand?

I'm definitely just upgrading.

I can't imagine the pain of reinstalling everything. Not enough time in my life to do that.

Well, I do have time, but I don't think my PC will explode or anything like that, so I'm sticking with the upgrade until I run into some issues that could be fixed with a clean install.

Is this real?

I dunno, maybe? Haven't played Solitaire in ages.

Didn't happen for me when I booted it up just now, but it also gave a "cannot connect to Xbox Live" error, so who knows.

EDIT: Wait, found it. It's not a prompt, you have to go looking for it. No idea why anybody would pay for premium solitaire access, but as long as they're not shoving it in my face, I'm whatever on the subject.

Create a USB bootable version of the ISO MS have provided for WIn 10. When you boot the USB, you will come a point where you can do a custom install. Here you can formal the drive and install to it.

You MUST upgrade first to transfer the old license to WIn 10. Only then should you format and install vis USB. The installer will ask you for a serial key atleast twice, each time skip. You should end up at the desktop activated as long as you had upgraded prior to clean install.

Does anyone have an idea why I cant connect to Web?

Ok I might do this as i've nothing on there anyway.

Noo Don't delete anything off your C: beforehand.

Back up any documents you may have onto another partition or drive.

once your happy with that you have a couple of choices.

1) use the settings system restore (just like phones etc)
2)Use bootable media, i.e dvd or pen drive. (just like old way.)

Surface pro 3 updated ok. I deleted the Windows/software/downloads folder and did the forced update cmd thing mentioned earlier, and it downloaded and popped up really quickly. Will try that on my other two machines later if no luck with the auto notify
