Gamescom: Microsoft press conference (August 4; Scalebound, Crackdown, QB, H5+ more)

Scalebound will be a character action game (like Bayonetta, DMC...). Mark my words.

Ken Lobb hints that this is not the case.

I'm sure we're going to get plenty of action -it's Kamiya after all- but I don't think action will be the sole focus. I think Kamiya's taking another crack at getting Zelda out of his system, and it seems like the kind of game MS would want a lot.

I'm thinking maybe in Scalebound we can summon dragons in the end of the combo like when Bayonetta summons her demons

Was there a better lineup of Xbox exclusives in any other year? Genuinely curious.
Sorry for the late response.

Well, 2014 for one. Given that the games we're waiting for now were announced last year.
I think the problem is in the subjective definition of 'good, better, best'. I see very little in most of MS's games to interest me nowadays, and I'm highly cynical of how some of the better looking games will actually turn out, so the conference had very few points of interest for me personally. Some of their bigger games, Halo 5 and Tomb Raider, looked straight up dull.

In for Scalebound! Very little interest for the rest, to be honest.

Likewise. I was saying at E3 time that I'm watching MS conferences with an open mind now, waiting for them to sell me on the system and the games, but I've seen very little that has interested me. Only Scalebound has that X-factor of, "OMG what will it be like!", because it isn't a sequel (Crackdown) and we haven't seen gameplay (Quantum Break). Microsoft may show off some other nice games, but I'm expecting nothing else that doesn't look like I've played it a dozen times already.

I got off for this, 10 am est get some breakfast and let's go! Hoping for more halo 5 info and the first looks at scalebound and crackdown. Get ready agents

Ken Lobb? The same guy who said Phantom Dust will be 30 hours JRPG? LOL!

He's known to overhype everything.

Zelda/Okami style action adventure? No chance, I think. And I somehow fear we'll never see something like that from Kamiya again.

Wow, after almost two years of lurking, I finally get to post on GAF! This feels so....strange, but exhilarating at the same time!

I have to say that I'm most excited to see more Halo 5 gameplay, Crackdown gameplay (and how the mystical "Cloud-compute" will be used in-game), and to see what exactly ScaleBound is. While I really enjoyed Max Payne, I'm not sure if I liked what I saw of Quantum Break, but I'm interested to see more of that, too.

I'm also wondering if there will be any third-party announcements on stage? Although it probably won't happen, it would be nice to see something like Mafia III on stage.

What time will this be going down in PST?

The website says it starts at 7:00 a.m. PST. I'm in CST, so I'm a little luckier than you are!

Welcome to gaf! You're probably already banned by the time you read this

A new soul to corrupt. Muahahaha!

Haha, I've already been scared straight by the sheer amount of valiant soldiers I've seen lost in the "console wars"!

I'm really curious to see the cloud in action in regards to destruction and physics like they were touting a year ago.

Yeah, I really hope they have destruction that's on the level that they showed in that BUILD conference from MS last year.

Maybe he was right, and that dev studio just didn't quite get the memo... so MS comes down to look at it, is all "that's nice".. then they get back to their offices and are like "can you believe it? It wasn't even a proper RPG.. kill that shit...".

Kinda sad we have to wait long for ReCore to resurface. Hopefully MS has something for Geoff at the Game Awards.

In a way I'm glad about that, because I hope that's a sign for MS spreading their announcements and reveals throughout the year as well. Having everything focused one or two conferences in the year shouldn't be the way to go in 2015. It was great, when they announced that some of their biggest titles won't be at E3, but at Gamescom instead. It would be great if they'd bring their X conference back. It kinda was their own PSX, wasn't it?

My memory is fuzzy but I believe MS wanted a full singleplayer campaign, but apparently Darkside (is that the studios name?) wanted a higher budget (I think this was revealed in a Kotaku article). They were on good terms as well, but my theory is Darkside wanted the bigger budget or they wouldn't do the singleplayer, so MS thought fuck it and terminated their contract.

I imagine Phantom Dust will appear soon, the potential in that IP is absolutely amazing in this day. I'd love to get my hands on it ;-;

Well, my post was only half serious (or less, lol).. but yea, there's always the possibility that their was some miscommunication somewhere along the line, and MS thought they were getting a game that Darkside didn't think they were expected to produce with that budget.

I hope Xbox does their own conference but I guess there's always The Game Awards to reveal gameplay for ReCore, at least it'd be something interesting to see among all the other crap.

The Games Awards would be a great place to show off some stuff, yes. The last big X show was the X06 and look at the stuff they announced or showed at that event.

X06 was held between the September 27 and September 28, 2006, in Barcelona, Spain. The show featured games like Fable 2, Mass Effect, Alan Wake, and Gears of War. The show also featured several notable announcements.[14][15]

September 27, 2006 Announcements included:
  • Halo Wars (an RTS set in Halo Universe, exclusive to Xbox 360)
  • Halo: Chronicles (being created by Wingnut Interactive, formed by Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh)
  • Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts
  • BioShock (exclusive to Xbox 360 and PC until a later PS3 version was released)
  • Splinter Cell Double Agent Footage
  • Splinter Cell Conviction will be exclusive to PC and Xbox 360.
  • HD DVD Drive announcement will be $199 with remote and Peter Jackson's King Kong movie
  • Assassin's Creed footage of actual gameplay

Maybe by putting it in Q1 of the year, they'd have a bigger audience, since there's little going on in terms of shows or announcements. But then you have less for the rest of the year? I suppose it's really hard to find a good balance.

I hope so too. They've never really had a presence at the VGAs, it would be good exposure for them. I think the only thing they've ever done was the Alan Wake American Nightmare reveal.

Forza Horizon reveal was there I think.
Forza Horizon was revealed at GDC 2012.

Forza Horizon 2 at E3 2014.

Unless you're talking about new trailers/footage, and in that case one could add Halo Reach and Crackdown 2 to the list as well.

They should bring back the Spring Showcase they used to do during or close to GDC and make it bigger:

Chances are that we probably will also see the game next year at E3. Considering that this a new IP AND we haven't seen any gameplay or had any significant info blowouts on the game yet AND it's scheduled to come out in less than a year, I expect the release date to miss the release window they announced at E3.

So the Kamiya tweet of how he's pissed that he's gonna be some prop at gamescon has probably already been posted in here right?

Yea, a couple of pages back. Resulted in some banning(s), too, so I personally would just let it be. Plus, when is Kamiya not mad? And sometimes he's just messing with people/joking...hard to tell with him.

Ken Lobb? The same guy who said Phantom Dust will be 30 hours JRPG? LOL!

He's known to overhype everything.

That's a bit of an exaggeration on your part. The plans for Phantom Dust Reboot was 30 hours. Thats not him over-hyping something, rather him saying what the plans for the game was.

By Kenn Lobb, Phil Spencer, and others on the project has said Phantom Dust is a game they feel is a good game. No it was not the most popular game, but the people who played it loved it and that is why they wanted to bring it back.

But Kenn Lobb in specifically said the plans for the game was to improve on certain aspects of the game including some story stuff. Not sure how saying 30 hours is over hyping.

From Halo pro Snipedown: "I can't wait for the entire console world minds to be blown away with the @Halo announcements at Gamescom, I'm still reattaching mine atm"

Inb4 real Lan Support = mind blowing.. lol

Sry but this Pros only care about the money. If there wouldnt be any money to made with Halo 5 or with Halo in general you wouldnt see tweets like this. I remember the dark times lol

And neither Microsoft or 343 are hyping any Announcements for GamesCom. Microsoft focus looks more like on Crackdown and Scalebound. I only know about this Halo 5 tournament for GC.

Oh yeah. They showed FM4 trailer in 2010. Got it confused with the FH one. Both used real-life clips.

I expect nothing less than:
-Halo RPG with Casey Hudson as game director and Joe Staten as lead writer. Music written by Marty.
-Halo Wars 2
-Oonsk platformer

Hype!

If this doesn't happen then I hold you personally responsible for my shattered dreams.

Bruh please...
Let it take place on a shield world or The ark

It's probably a second arena plus war zone beta...

Welcome dude :)

Thanks :)

And if they do announce something like Halo Wars 2, I really hope they put a mode in where you're able to fight in the battle and see it unfold in first person! I was a little disappointed when the original didn't come out with a feature like that, but if this one did, that would be amazing! Seeing huge battles unfold right in front of my eyes while I'm standing in the middle of them is something I've been hoping to see for a long time!

Hnnnggggg yes plz. Hard to have plenty of characters on it though.

Halo Wars 2 would be lovely. At the same time, I'd like a new RTS IP. Or, perhaps, a use of MS's many older IPs: where's Crimson Skies? The Mech games (what is the deal with BattleTech these days - I see a KS for a new turn-based title, but who actually owns it all? Mechwarrior Online isn't MS)?

Notice his wording, Halo for PC
