Upgrade to Windows 10?

I'm not sure what the issue could be but it works like crap on my PC. We just got a new router to so realistically that shouldn't be the issue, but there was a huge controls delay and video delay from my monitor to the TV.

Is every device wired or are some of them wireless? That will probably be the biggest make break.

Can anyone tell me how to get the search box back into the start menu. I've seen screenshots online of people having it, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to get it back.

Edit: So you can get it to appear in the taskbar, but only if you don't use small taskbar icons, gross.

As a W7 user who never extensively used 8, I don't really see a reason to upgrade until DX12 games start coming out, unless there are already DX11 games that get huge performance improvements.

IDK. I just really still like W7. That said, I only started using W7 in 2013 and was still using Vista up until that time. Actually, my current work PC is still on Vista and to upgrade I'd almost certainly have to get a new one that probably comes with W10. My W7 system is pretty much just a gaming/media HTPC. I know Metro ironically makes more sense on an HTPC, but right now I don't think it's worth going through a clean OS reinstall. At the very least I'm gonna wait and see what bugs show up and what old games have problems in 10 (I heard of some that had problems on 8).

So maybe someone can help me... I had the "Upgrade to Windows 10" icon in my taskbar up until today but now it's nowhere to be seen, with no windows update present and no indication that I have downloaded the Windows 10 package or not. My OS is on a relatively small-sized SSD where I presume it would be downloaded, but maybe it didn't? So did W10 simply not download or what? :/

What does nothing mean ? Is it like a format c: type of installation and how are other drives e.g. D: , E: , ... affected ?

Check your windows update history.

If size is an issue, you can download the ISO and burn it to a disc to upgrade. Or use this method.

I believe if you choose "Nothing" it gives you the option of only touching the partition that Windows is installed on, or all drives.

Can't seem to install any kind of Nvidia driver, neither through the Windows update panel nor manually with the 353.62 driver downloaded from Nvidia. Anyone had this?

So confused! I have a few questions..on my laptop I downloaded every single update and it says I have 10.0.10240.16384 is that the latest one..I installed this on my laptop last week so not even sure if this is the final windows 10 or not..when I go to advanced options in updates..it says on the bottom "Get Insider Builds" does it say that on the final version as well just want to be sure
Also..for my PC, I want to do a clean install, I have Windows 8.1 home, does that mean I would have to install Windows 10 Home or if I do a clean install I can get whatever version I want?

One does an upgrade and keeps everything. The second keeps your data files like media and documents. It then settings, apps, OS.

The third is a clean install. HD is probably formatted.

What the others said...none of them will impact your other hard drives in any way

Had a pretty flawless update from Windows 8, just like a regular update, seems like everything still works.

If you choose to install optional updates, it will install common driver updates too (for example for NVidia graphics cards)

So upgrading from 8.1 to 10. I have a SSD and the install flew. I'm currently at the login in screen and have a few questions?

1.) What happens to my old 8.1 C folder?

2.) What steps would one take to revert to 8.1 should issues arrive?

Thanks.

So it looks like the files have downloaded onto my system but I haven't been prompted to upgrade yet. Do I have to wait or can I kick this off on my own?

Thnk I have messed up.

I upgraded this morning which was fine.

I then wanted to do a clean install so I downloaded the iso and formatted my Drive form the Bios.

Everything is now working but my key isn't working (windows 8 key)

Just spoke to them on phone and she is telling me to reinstall windows 8 then upgrade to 10.

Worried if I do that my windows 8 key wont work since I have already activated it when I first installed 8.

am I screwed Gaf? anyone have a cheap 10 key?! :p

I don't know what you mean by your old c folder

If you want to revert go to settings and upgrade...and the recovery tab has a revert option

Okay i'm going post this once...don't worry about a clean install. Honestly in modern versions of windows with nt that isn't very often important. If you really want to clean install use the reset this pc in the options. This is nearly the same and much much less hassle and pain

The update was flawless as fuck on my gaming desktop and laptop. Great job Microsoft.

I'm updating my AMD video drivers to the latest version (15.7.1) and DDU works fine in Windows 10. The only two problems I have is the UHD scaling still sucks and I have to make all of my Oblytile icons again.

I thought the upgrade was tied to your Microsoft account? Shouldn't you be fine if you log in to your account on the fresh install?

Does anyone know how much free HDD space is needed for Win7 to Win 10 upgrade? I only got like 5.5 GB free space left on my old 64 GB SDD, so i guess there is no way to upgrade it without fully formatting the drive (which i want to avoid tbh) :(

I was so close to finishing the upgrade to Windows 10 but the installation instructions were in Japanese. I guess I must've changed some settings a while back to get a game working...

It says that my windows isn't activated.. What can i do? My 8.1 key was valid..

My Laptop is saying the same. I'm assuming a launch day hitch and not worrying about it for now.

It won't let me activate the Laptop W10 update, even though I did an update in place. Could just be the activation servers.

I followed the same procedure earlier for my study PC and that activated fine.

Apparently it's tied to your hardware. So if you do a clean Win 10 install without upgrading, you need to reinstall the old Windows first and upgrade it and then do a clean install.

Anyone with a MacBook installing Windows 10 via bootcamp? Since I'm probably going back to school for a few courses, thinking it may be a good idea to have both os x and windows.
