Upgrade to Windows 10?

So don't upgrade if I want to continue using my DS4 on my PC right? If I reserved already how long do I have to upgrade for free?

Are you guys liking Edge? I was using Chrome in Windows 8 but never used extensions, so I'm not missing out on anything while using Edge so far

It seems.. okay? nothing spectacular but it seems to work fine and has a minimalistic UI like Chrome

It's OK. It seems to hitch up for a split second, which is annoying. Also, the default zoom is too large for my taste, but the next lowest is 75%, which is too small.

I do like the Cortana integration, but I can't see it trumping Chrome for the time being.

Anyone know if it's possible to change the default folder to save Xbox clips/screenshots to? My screenshots are being saved to desktop and the clips are going on my SSD instead of my storage drive.

I have this question also.

So a weird side thing I dual booted win10 beta.

Not a big deal but I still have the files on my second HDD despite not having the option to boot into windows 10 beta any longer.

Attempting to delete them gives an error.

Attempting to format the drive gives a locked drive error.

You could try doing a low level format. Open CMD as an administrator, then launch diskpart.

So mine finally downloaded. I've put my password in and it's now on the desktop and the cursor is showing the loading ring. It's been on this now for about 20-30 mins... Is this normal?

Afraid to switch PC off and try again.

Do I need to clear my Software Distribution folder and force the update, or should I wait?

The check it does seems to think I'm ready... so I dunno what the holdup is.

I'm so confused. I downloaded the update tool, clicked Update this PC. It downloads win 10, then another progress bar, and then nothing. It literally just stops. I reboot, nothing. I try the tool again, and it simply repeats. Anyone run into this? I'm on win 8.1 64bit.

I would like to know this as well. Mine is custom built and I'm now up to 7 failed updates.

Still can't get my second GPU working no matter what I do...

You might need to reinstall the drivers or control panel. My GTX 760 was seen and had the drivers installed but things wouldn't "connect" for the Device Manager for it until I reinstalled the Nvidia Geforce Experience to manually install the driver. Said it was already installed, but wanted me to reboot anyway. After rebooting my GTX 760 didn't give any errors after that.

Still need to test to see if Dirt Rally isn't giving me 5FPS now
.

Seems to be an upgrade "bug."

I'm a just gonna sit here 'til Microsoft sends me a snazzy download link.

blah blah blah "waves." blah blah blah "Thanks for your patience."

Are you doing a clean install or an upgrade?

I have a custom-build too. I was planning on just upgrading from Win7 to Win10 without a wipe.

Anyone try streaming to their PC and it's a little fuzzy? Console and PC are wired with 220/20 Mbps. And there seems to be no lag at all but damn is it a little fuzzy.

Oh my goodness. I just learned that headset port is working now on xbox one controller under windows 10. Chat headset is recognized fine as audio input and output device. Finally!!!!!!!
I didn't even think about trying again. This is the greatest thing possible.

Can't get my xbox wireless receiver for my 360 controller to work. I have v1.2 of the xbox accessories drivers installed but they aren't showing up in the driver list when I try to select it manually. They showed up before updating to Windows 10.

Anyone have any issues like this that found a solution?

Edit: Never mind. Looks like they added an additional category for Xbox and I was clicking on the new one. I needed to click on the Xbox 360 category. Just needed to open my eyes a bit wider I guess...

I have this question also.

I noticed the hitching as well when typing or scrolling, hopefully it gets fixed. It also not showing one website I use properly (which I know is built like crap, but still)

Did you guys know about this? Windows 10 Is Hiding a Great Video Capture Tool
Pretty cool!

Same logs here too. The services.msc trick didn't work, sadly enough. It keeps initiating an installation but that just fails in the end.

Just upgraded.

Defaults to 720p with no option to upgrade to 1080p on display settings. I have a fully updated 560ti which it says is fine to upgrade with.

Nvidia control panel cant load (white screen). Also wireless dongle not recognised so no Internet connection.

Wanted to do a fresh install so trying that now I have the upgrade key.

Reset is taking forever. ......

Same here. I want to do the upgrade, but all I'm getting are failed attempts (4 as of now). I have to go to work in a little bit so, I'll just leave the pc on and check tomorrow.

Seems like of the games I've tried (Divinity Original Sin, Darksiders (with SweetFX), and Darkest Dungeon that the games run the same or better? Maybe placebo though idk

I custom built my PC and things went fine.
I see you have a driver installation failure. I would try to get that installed. Maybe it is preventing the Windows upgrade because it thinks the device won't work on the current driver.

Yeah, I added an update about that in the OP. It's pretty cool and works great so far. The only game that I haven't been able to bring up the game bar for is Mortal Kombat X. Not sure what the issue there is.

Same here, self assembled PC. 8 failed attempts, the widget in the is telling me to wait for notification though.

looks like it's unpacked and everything, just waiting on Microsofts nod.

Updated both desktop and laptop. Both worked flawlessly. I really like how it looks and Cortana seems really cool.

Okay so I succesfully upgraded from 8.1 Pro to 10 Pro. I had to reinstall the nvidia drivers and download a custom driver für my creative X-fi soundcard. Thats pretty much it.
I really don't know why people run in to so many problems.

Some people in here were saying you can add Steam games to the "my games" list in the xbox app, but how would one do this? Could someone be so kind and explain me how I can do this?

So i reserved my copy of windows 10 a long time ago. Nothing is happening on my computer at all.....I tried the "command prompt" thing that was on reddit and nothing came up. Whats going on?

Guys i used to have audio software and after update its gone. How do i get it back? I think its the realtek stuff

Guess Education is the free Dreamspark tier version, some Unis pay for Pro licenses so I guess that's the Dreamspark alternative to 10 Pro?

According to the chart, Education actually has more features than Pro.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_10_editions

Features in Education not in Pro:
AppLocker
BranchCache
Credential Guard[c] (Pass the hash mitigations)
Device Guard[c]
DirectAccess
Start Screen Control with Group Policy
User experience control and lockdown
Windows To Go

I can grab Education right now, but they also have a Home/Pro combo medium available on MSDN AA. Debating what I want to grab.

My NUC was what was giving me grief earlier. I just downloaded it off Microsoft's site and installed it myself with absoltey no consternation.

where from there though? in win 8 there was an option but I cant see it here?

I can't quite remember since it's been a while since I last had to use it, but isn't it something like Troubleshoot > Advanced settings? You should see some sort of BIOS option in there.

I would like to know this as well. Mine is custom built and I'm now up to 7 failed updates.

I updated, and when I noticed this happening, I went to windows/softwaredistribution/download and deleted everything in the download folder. Then went back to the cmd prompt and typed in wuauclt.exe /updatenow (while logged in as an Admin), then back into Windows Update. At that point Windows 10 would be downloading again and eventually install. I had to do it twice because the first download process messed up.

Those names seem like the kind of utilities you'd want to lock away specific functions from, say, Student accounts, if you were a net admin at a school :P

The Pro/Combo thing, is that "Multiple Editions"? I saw that on Dreamspark and got it, the key activated my current Win10 Pro install, if that helps :P

I can't activate my Windows 10 (the key is set there but it won't activate). I installed it thru the Media Activation executable. Either I'm in trouble or Windows servers are getting hammered.

Damn...I get a Blue screen error that says KERNAL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE right around the 35% mark when its installing features and drivers...When it restores my copy of Windows 7 a window pops up and say:

0xc1900101 0x30018 The Installation failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase with an Error during SYSPREP operation

Gonna have to dig into whats causing this.
