Upgrade to Windows 10?

clicking view details and clean system returns that message... I have antivirus on my computer (Bit defender) and I also have Malwarebytes.

Everything updated?

Other than uninstalling your other antivirus software, letting Defender fix whatever it's worked itself up about, then reinstalling them again, I don't know what else to suggest.

?

how's that possible.

my pc [bought from ncix, paid them to build it for me too] came with 8.1 [oem, of course], and i was asked for a serial key.

mind you, i also got the "something happened" error when trying to do the upgrade option through the media tool.

downloading now through windows update anyway - cmd prompt method worked after the 1000th attempt.

edit: to be clear, upgrade option gave SH error, this was me trying the installing from mounted .iso method if that changes anything.

Sounds like you might have a slightly deeper issue in that case, as the installer is just supposed to go through if you're activated. If it's downloading now through Windows Update I'd imagine you're fine though.

Mount the iso, launch setup.exe, that will upgrade it - or should, without serial prompt.

well, download just finished unpacking and it failed...

gave me an error...

crap.

Windows Defender will deactivate itself if a dedicated antivirus solution is installed. My guess is that BitDefender is not fully compatible with Win 10 yet. I would remove BitDefender until they update their software.

Malwarebytes should not affect this. As far as I know it does not connect to Windows at core level.

Oh thanks! How do I remove windows defender? I don't see the it to uninstall on ccleaner.

Is there anyway to install Win10 on a separate drive and dual boot between 10 and what I currently have (Win7)?

I assume that the upgrade replaces my current win7 license with a win10 license so probably not, but I didn't see anyone else talking about it.

Just to confirm, the only difference between selecting "Upgrade" and "Create ISO" (In regards to installing Win 10) is that Upgrade automatically pastes in your Win 7/8 product key?

I kept getting the "Something Happened" error from trying to update via Media Creation tool, so I'm downloading the WIn 10 files onto a USB instead. Is that a proper workaround, or should I just keep trying to upgrade until it eventually works?

Currently on Win 7 Home Premium btw.

In the bottom right, how do I make W10 show all of my task icons without using the arrow? I don't like that. I want to see Geforce Experience, Network, Steam etc without clicking that arrow.

I use bit defender free.
Oohhhh.....well than if your willing to try free solutions maybe you should check if AVG Free Edition is Windows 10 compatible.

As far as I know you cannot remove it. It is a part of Windows. Just a different name for MS Security Essentials. There is really no reason to remove it.

I would check if there is any updates available for Bit Defender that is for Windows 10. If not I am sure it will come soon. In the mean time Windows Defender is good enough to protect your PC.

Upgrade or fresh? If upgrade - it's not perfect.

Upgrade. I was trying to find every way to avoid doing a fresh install. When you're entering your key for doing a fresh install, is the key my win 8 pro key that I use, or did it change something where?

Also, doing fresh, has it been safe to leave your secondary storage drives intact? It won't mess with them or do I need to disable them while doing the fresh install?

So does anyone use Cortana? Feel like I'd rather just google it

Already used "her" a couple of times while browsing, doing something while asking for another is pretty nice. Also, while playing Cities: Skylines I asked her to play some Riverside and it was pretty rad even though it minimized my game it was still quicker/easier than alt+tab and search for the playlist.

I wonder if there is a way to keep it from minimizing programs.

i tried to update my windows 8.1 through the MediaCreationTool. It finished the download but after that nothing happens ... when i run the tool again, i have to download the whole windows 10 again.

is this issue known?

People with 144 Hz monitors - Remember to change it back to 144/120 Hz in the settings because mine was set to 64 as default

Is there any official confirmation that using the media creation tool upgrade is a legit way of getting your license upgraded to Win10 license?

Overall, happy with the upgrade, but I had to clean up so much crap on it and the presumption of an unremovable Xbox icon is kind of annoying. The Start menu was a mess because of all that snapped nonsense, so that's gone, but this is pretty much a more streamlined version of 7 for me.

Responsive, not a massive relearn of 7. All my programmes work. Happy.

Same situation here as well.

Well that downloaded and installed super quick on my laptop. Really like it so far.

Whats tgis about ds4 controllers not working with windows 10? Mine seemed to work as normal with ds4windows on the witcher 3.

Can you run Internet Explorer 11 on windows 10?

Seems the Edge browser only has open new tab/window when right clicking a link, which is ridiculous.

Not sure if doing a clean install makes a difference but I upgraded from 8.1 and IE11 is still there and can be used.
