Upgrade to Windows 10?

So anyone that is doing a fresh install, which way are you doing it?

Are you installing Windows 7/8 fresh and then just upgrading it? Or are you putting Windows 10 on a USB stick and not even messing with Windows 7/8?

I tried to put the Windows 10 Insider Preview on a USB stick but when I tried to install, it said something stupid about the type of hard drive that I had and would not let me. I ended up doing a fresh install of Windows 7 and then updating to Windows 10, then installing all drivers etc. I have a 1TB Samsung 840 Evo, so not sure why it was being difficult.
Run the tool and create a media usb or dvd. You don't need any keys of you have a previously activated windows.

When you open your hard drive through explorer it doesn't have windows.old?

Ohh yes found it, i have that folder. I am about to do a fresh install. That windows.old folder is in my C: should i move it to another drive in case i ever want to revert to win 7? If i do a fresh install im assuming that folder will be lost no? I don't mind not going back to windows 7 so yeah. Will windows 10 make a back up of my current setup if i do a fresh install?, by that i mean will it create a back up of this windows 10 updated setup? sorry its a bit confusing

Question - I have a lot of gigs of space right now that is being occupied by my old Windows install. I don't really care for having that there, is it possible for me to revert to Windows 7 if I still have my OEM copy?

If you do a clean install with the media device everything will get wiped if you format the hard drive. You should move the windows.old to another drive if you want to keep it. Fresh install isn't a clean install.
If you do a fresh install it will probably backup the windows 10 you have now.

Can't activate the windows.... error 0x8007232B. Says something about DNS.

Windows 8.1 Home -> Windows 10 Preview Insider 10160 -> Windows 10 RTM

I'm tired, so for now it's working but I can't change the wallpaper and download apps from the Store, if someone knows how to solve this, I'll be looking for answers tomorrow.... I guess.

Well, it looks like Windows 10 also fixed whatever problem my SSD was having with Windows 8

Someone from GAF said to try and switch the SATA port but I forget the last time I cleaned up my PC, but it seemed to have been solved now. Hopefully it means no more stuttering and Windows feeling sluggish

Batman Arkham Origins DX11 doesn't work for me. I've tried Windows 7 & 8 compatibility modes, and verified and repaired the game cache.

Batman Arkham Asylum worked just fine (don't have City installed to check it)

Skyrim works

Finally decided to install Windows 10. As soon as i did, i got the "something happened" with the windows creation tool. I read up on it, and changing my region locale to en-us worked for some reason.

After that initial bump, the install went perfectly fine. Just took a while to get windows activated, which is expected since the servers must be getting hammered. Also installed some of the drivers from Asus for my MB, some WHQL, some still "beta", even though everything was recognized/installed by windows and working. I still went ahead with the ones that had a more recent date than the windows supplied ones, but got an error with the Management Engine from Intel, not like i really need it anyway. Might not install them and let windows do it when i clean install.

So far, i'm happy, everything works and it's fast ( Win7 was fast for me too anyway ). Since i have activated Windows 10 from the upgrade, i guess i am safe to "clean" install from a dvd/usb right ?

Is the mouse scroll wheel inconsistent for anyone else? It doesn't seem to scroll in Edge or in the Start Menu.
Resolved this by installing Logitech's SetPoint driver. However, I don't like how it messes with my keyboard's volume control (increments by 3% instead of by 2%).
Edit: Nope it's because I'm using AltDrag. Uninstalling SetPoint.

Am going to do the upgrade on my PC now(But I want to do a clean install after wards) confused about how to use the media creation tool. I have it opened now and it gives me two options Upgrade this PC now and Create installation media for another PC..what do I have to do in order to create the ISO image so I can do the upgrade..or do I have to "Upgrade this PC now" then after it reboots and its done I can then create the ISO image and do a clean install..just want to make sure I Do it right

You can "clean" install from the recovery menu.

1) Upgrade
2) Recovery menu
3) Reset

Posted in the other thread but my post was overlooked, figure I'd try my luck here:

Hey guys, I tried to download the Windows 10 ISO to a USB flash drive via the Media Creation Tool downloader and both times that I've tried, the bar sits at 0% no matter how long I wait. Is this a client side issue or is it on Microsoft's end from being hammered?

Does anyone have problems with downloading apps/games from Windows Store? Whatever I try, it always ends up with "acquiring license" and 0x803F7003 error.

MotioninJoy (PlayStation 3 controller driver) confirmed working on Windows 10.

Edit: Windows 10 supports scrolling inactive windows. This is awesome.

I haven't read a lot about Windows 10 but currently I'm running Windows 7, will I see any real world difference in upgrading to Windows 10 right now? As it stands I do not own a Xbone so streaming is not an option for me.

So Origins is bust...

For Skyrim, any ENB on it?

Does anyone know if my two RAID data drives will be okay if I upgrade? I have one two disk raid zero, and one 4 disk raid 5. Both are connected, and setup via the motherboard/BIOS.

Jolly. Wanted to upgrade from Win7 to Win10, so I set everything in motion and went off to do some shopping. Now that I'm back, it looks like instead of upgrade, it did a fresh install? Either way, all my programs are gone, Program Files is barebones and all installation folders are dumped in Windows.old. Managed to keep all my documents and related files (phew), but no Office. Sucks, have a deadline tomorrow, but whatever. This happen to anyone else?

Origins doesn't work ? Gonna DL it and see, as i was playing it on Win7, would suck if it doesn't work. At least i kept the Win7 installation still intact on another SSD so i can just boot it up and play.

I am getting an, "Unfortunately your PC is unable to run Windows 10" message when I click the icon. When I view the report, it tells me there is nothing to report right now, and that I can reserve my upgrade, and that when Windows is ready, it will run another report.

How do I fix this?
