The Patriots equipment guy had balls for both teams with him. They, as the home team, are responsible for the balls during the game. That point was made in the report.

If he was guilty I'm sure he would just have admitted that. No one would have thought less of him because a lot of QBs admit they like the ball a certain way. It's a matter of principle: he didn't ask anyone to deflate the balls, and the NFL said he did. He knows he didn't. So he isn't going to admit to something he didn't do.
Totally correct, although the Patriots aren't accused of preparing footballs. They're accused of tampering with them after inspection. Is the theory that they've been doing this for all road games as well, even though the person accused of it doesn't travel to all road games and the whole bathroom thing would seem to be much more difficult in another stadium? It's plausible I guess, although I find the fact that nobody ever noticed both revealing and a little dubious

New rumors abound this morning as Mortensen's original source is alleged to be Mike Kensil, NFL VP of Game Operations.
Supposedly Kensil lied to Mortensen about the original issue with the deflated balls in order to set an agenda against the Patriots. Part of this could be influenced by salt towards Bill from years ago when they were both working for the NY Jets.

Compared to who? Liar or not, he's doing the exact same song and dance others have done before admitting their wrongdoing. And this has only been going on for a few months. When he get years under his belt like Rose or Armstrong then maybe we can call him strong willed.
And that was my point. Though both teams provide balls it is the home team ball boy who handles them.
Unless I hear Dennis come out with some evidence to the Kensil accusation he's no better than what Mortensen did months ago. Did he say anything about how he knows that?

Aside from Mortensen directly telling one of the DJs at WEEI before backing out of his scheduled interview, that's as much as we know.
Kensil was also the person who went up to Bill during one of the games last year after the deflated balls issue had been raised and said "...you're in big fucking trouble."
He is really stuck in a bad place. He got used to flame the fires and turn this into a larger issue than it should have been. If he reveals his source there is a good change his career at ESPN is over, yet not owning up to it is getting him a lot of negative attention. I would probably just do what he is currently doing and hope to ride it out and at-least keep my job. I wouldn't be surprised if ESPN executives have told him to keep his mouth shut.

This revelation is pretty damning to a degree, kinda gives some fuel to the idea that there are people in the NFL who are specifically going after the Pats and to do major damage to their image.

That jumped out at me when i was skim reading the NFLPA petition. The parallels to deflategate are eerily similar, yet the response is drastically different.
All because the NFL are morons and don't even know their own rules. Picking deflate gate as some great offense "to the shield" is one of incompetent Goodell's stupidest mistakes and I hope it will eventually end with him getting reprimanded or kicked out.

I mean, if Brady saw the news that, "11 balls were under 2 PSI legal limit", couldn't that explain why he probably freaked out and talked to the equipment dude in the QB room the day after? Don't you think he was most likely going, "Dude, wtf did you do to those balls!?".
Maybe that explains the level of panic going around if the Patriots thought the balls were legit 2 PSI under limit. Then the report comes out and it turns out it's on average around ~.5 psi difference between the two gauges and the legal limit.

Could some fill me in on what Mortenson got wrong? I'm a Pats fan, it's been a crazy 6 months. I thought around 11 were under inflated.

I thought the wrong info was the amount under the minimum the balls were when measured at halftime.

Mortenson ran the initial story about the, "11 out of 12 balls found to be 2PSI under legal limit". This was later found out to be wrong when the Wells report came out, and the average between the two gauge is around .5/.6 PSI under legal limit.
Today it was discovered Mortensons source was Mike Kensil, who is the NFL VP of Game Operations, and just so happened to also be a past New York Jets executive.
So instead of talking about it, he's backing out and going silent.

I guess I'm looking for a little reminder about the balls. Was he that far off? The source is very interesting and will make for great radio, TV and future short films but how does this help Brady's case?

The downside is all of the profanity is bleeped out. Can't even tell what Rex Ryan is saying half the time in the 2010 season.

Mortenson hasn't denied it, and WEEI ,while a homer station, doesn't really run with bullshit and is the top sports station next to Sports Hub.
He even said he was pulling for Brady. Sounds like Mortenson is feeling burned.
Sports Hub is by far the homer station, especially for the Patriots. They just run with more sensational personalities for ratings which works well in this business.

I mean, Gresh and Beatle are homer, but Felger and Mazz are by far the most negitive show for any station in the area.
Because it brings the ratings. As far as content and actual opinions go, they really don't have much.

I've moved back to EEI from The Sports Hub. I can appreciate some negativity for some fun but Felger and Mazz were too much. In championship seasons those guys can still complain for 4 straight hours. I also liked Beatle as a third wheel but don't like his show as the host. I do miss Zo's energy though.

Opposing opinions are important, which is why I like Felger and Mazz. I don't agree with them on everything, but good radio is saying something that can be argued from both sides.
It is what also triggered the press conference by Brady and Belichick the next day with Brady's infamous line "I don't think i cheat"

True. That's why I gave them three years. Listen closely though and hours of the show are focused on the opinions of the fans or media that have differing opinions than them.
I like sports talk but not sports talk about sports talk.
Plus they take 9 calls in 4 hours.
I am mostly EEI again. The problem is not only the negativity all the time, but the incessant agreement from Maz. He is alike a little kid who follows his big brother around. He also harps on one thing and no matter what people say he says "But what about XXX Mike?!" It is very annoying.
Then you have Thornton on EEI..... don't get me started with him. Ugh, just go back to Dale and Holly and call it a day.
