Gamescom: Microsoft press conference (August 4; Scalebound, Crackdown, QB, H5+ more)

My dream announcement* is always going to be a new Crimson Skies, but MS seems to be more about licensing out FASA IPs rather than developing them in-house, so it probably wouldn't be at the conference regardless.

*That is not a new Rise of Legends or Impossible Creatures, which I've accepted are never going to be seen again.

If only... a new Crimson Skies would be a dream come true for many.

I'm curious to see if Microsoft will mention the power of the cloud at all during gamescon. It was touted as a massive feature but has only been used in subtle ways. Is crackdown still supposed to be a hugely ambitious game that is only possible through the cloud or will it also only use it in subtle ways?

"Cloud" is a forbidden word in Microsoft's vocabulary since Phil Spencer took over. The word hasn't even been mentioned once in the last 2 E3 conferences.

The only issue with all this cloud talk is that they mentioned it way to early. I guess back in 2013 they wanted to get people hyped for a killer new feature, but it was way to early and shouldn't have been mentioned.
Regardless of that, the cloud stuff is possible. Microsoft has been doubling down on Azure in the last half a decade, and we are finally starting to see its fruits, such as that predictive VR headset that had only 13 ms input latency with the cloud doing the predictions.
I very well think that the cloud that they mentioned in 2013 will happen, but they really shouldn't have announced it so many years out.

Some QB questions answered on twitter

When will this masterpiece be available? Number one question.?
@RiotRMD: spring 2016

Will the enemy AI be good enough that the powers will have to be used to defeat them like if they're too fast in normal speed?
@RiotRMD: having great combat scenarios that allow one to replay them with different strategies/moves is key. I've been doing that...

btw, he is the new Head of PR at Remedy!

That kinda sucks, I was hoping for early 2016 and a February date. Imagine if they got this out for January though, that'd be great.

So now my predictions change to :

Quantum Break - March
ReCore - June
Scalebound - August
Forza - September
Crackdown - October
Gears - November.

I would push Quantam Break to May.

I don't think MS like releasing games early on in the year. Kind of stupid in my opinion, you would think they would realise the best time to release a new IP would be when their is less competition.

I don't think Microsoft like the idea of having a barren holiday season and packing the rest of the year. Now they have enough games in the line-up to spread across the year they will do it.

And I doubt we will see many new IPs release during the holiday season anymore from them ($60 retail ones anyway).

Quantum Break will be March, Scalebound May/June and ReCore in July, my predictions.

Pretty sure Recore is going to be delayed since we have seen 0 amount of gameplay and ain't at Gamescom unfortunately :(

They announced ReCore in mid-June, we're 45 minutes away in my timezone from August I doubt much has happened between then and now that would cause a delay.

But it happens, games get delayed if they're not done and they haven't got it right. They said Spring 16 which is mid-March to mid-June, I said July, that would be a delay ;)

We know they are playing it in Redmond and at E3 they said they hoped to show it in the next couple of months but Phil was pretty clear about the amount of work it takes to get something done for E3 and Gamescom, lots of development time/focus, they need to make the games.

I did think it would be at Gamescom, I was wrong but I don't think not being there given it sounds like it was never intended to be there is an indication of a delay based on what was said at E3.

Crackdown should get it's very own year. 2017. Nothing but Crackdown.

Do we know another Forza is coming out in 2016?

I don't like pure racing games and so I'm skipping Motorsport 6 but I was all over Forza Horizon 2 (I put ~~200 hours into XB1 version) and I wouldn't mind a Forza Horizon 3. Do they have the manpower to make another next-gen open world racer?

Maybe the idea is that Turn10 does all the leg work on car models, physics, etc... while Playground is freed up to design a compelling open world and simply borrows Turn10's work from Forza Motorsport 6 re: car models/physics?

They share assets and work together. Forza is an annual franchise, but each series is every other year, I don't see why that would change now.

I'm seriously dying for new Halo info.

Three months left till launch!

Tbh I don't really expect anything mind-blowing, maybe one surprise at most. More info on already announced games is fine by me.

I might be misattributing what I remember, but hasn't Phil Spencer said in the past that he wants to expand the Forza franchise beyond Motorsport and Horizon in the future? If they don't go in a new direction with the series, I expect Horizon 3 to be announced and released next year. Forza Horizon 2 was my first Forza game, and I loved it! I'm glad NFS took a break that year.

People were saying the exact same thing about Sony's E3 lol.

To be fair, a few of the "insiders" here on GAF were teasing the Last Guardian at E3, along with the Guardian reporting on it. Also, Yu Suzuki did make those obscure tweets relating to Shenmue 3 before its KickStarter announcement... Either way, I do wish we had someone like Verendus teasing information on the Xbox side, just to get the juices flowing!

I wouldn't mind if they just focused entirely on Quantum Break myself. I'm hoping for a concrete release date.

Okay fine, maybe a bit of Scalebound..

Are our collective BODIES READY?

Why ruin the thread with a thousand pointless train posts?

Well at this point there's not much more to be discussed, all the predictions are out of the way, and there's still two days left. I didn't think trains would ruin it, but I might be in the minority there.
This more than suffices, though :D

I just hate when threads turn into page after page of train posts. It feels like pointless filler. I'd rather people actually talk about stuff or just not post at all, lol. But yeah, that's just me!

I feel you on the whole nothing to discuss thing... I just want August 4 to get here!

Are we going to get a train going? This thread is so refreshing after reading that other...

Trains get threads closed. Let's keep this open until the conference thread goes up in case more info comes out that isn't deserving of a new thread.

Wow! Its excellent and nicely done.

I'll try to get a ticket for the Fanfest on tuesday. Pretty excited to get my hands on some of the upcoming games.

Does anyone know where the press conference will take place?

Phil was asked about another Forza "series" by Ryan at IGN over E3 and he seemed puzzled by the idea so I don't think it will be coming anytime soon. Dan Greenawalt suggested something to IGN last year but it doesn't sound like its actually happening as yet

We get two forzas a year?
you mean biennial

Every other year you know what I meant >.<

Only interested in what they have in stock for Windows 10, I don't give a rat's ass about the Xbox One.

Spencer teased "new game reveals" for Windows 10 a few months ago, wonder what will come out of that (nothing).
As it stands their Windows 10 store is an embarassment. Only game I'll pick up is Gears of War UE.
I don't know what ambitions they have about their store but if they want to challenge the behemoth that is Steam they'll need a decent list of AAA games.
If X or Y game is available on Steam the W10 Store stands no chance so only exclusives will make PC gamers gravitate towards their walled garden.

I'm actually most excited to see Crackdown. We've already seen Quantum Break, and I'm not super hyped for Scalebound.
