Christ the whining in this thread. The kids were probably like 'these celebrities aren't famous enough to interrupt my daily routine of laying in the bed and hoping I won't die, vomiting and having more chemo. I wish nothing had happened today.' Right? Right?

Yeah. Who is this person trying to make me laugh even dressed up as... No I don't want a photo with some stars today.... the promotional period for Ghostbusters isn't even ramping up yet...

You know, I was originally hesitant, skeptical, even vitriolic at times about this and the casting, but I've been liking what I'm seeing and honestly some people are just so fucking annoyingly hateful about it that I now find myself cheering the damn thing on.

You guys are terrible...just...disgusting.

This is a good thing and this is on par with youtube replies

when things like this normally happen it's unexpected like when Johnny Depp goes and visits kids as Jack Sparrow years after that franchise has finished and you only find out because the parents put something on facebook.

this on the other hand looks like pretty shameless PR. idk, I guess it's a good thing but it feels a little weird.

The only source was the hospital itself.

It's much more likely for kids in Boston. Remember, this has been filming in town for weeks and it's been big news. I actually know multiple people who have taken their kids downtown to see the filming. Sure, that doesn't mean all these kids know them, but it's much more likely that they would have at least heard of them compared to kids the same age who don't live here.

Also, is this (not this specific post, just the general tenor if conversation) the response every time someone goes and visits kids in the hospital? Chris Pratt does it a lot, do people think that's all PR too? Out is there some special reason why this one offends people?
Why do people keep bringing stuff like this up? If "Star Lord" showed up for something like this BEFORE even a trailer was released, I'd still be questioning if the kids even knew who he was. As I've said, the closest thing would be if "Jessica Jones" showed up to do this (even though her show is still being filmed).

It looks like people in the Boston area visiting sick kids in the Boston area

I like how the " why did they bother since the kids don't know who they are, seems a bit early" line is ever prevalent in this thread, like that somehow should null and void their kind gestures. Cynicism is truly universal.

Some of you really should get some kind of professional help.

This is my favorite thread ever..lol. I just don't understand why ANYONE is mad about ANYTHING in the OP, and beyond. Male/female, same/different, PR/nice gesture..

Folks just wanna be wound up over nothing..

I feel that this post is really messy, so tl;dr Fans of the original Ghostbusters are often super hypocrites and would have loved it if the original cast did it

You guys know exactly why the general response is what it is in this thread: diet sexism.

Sorry, but I'm not seeing it seething from every post. I can see absolutely nothing wrong with the cast visiting a children's hospital, and still wonder why so early. I THINK that's ok, but many post say otherwise. Worse, bring up misogyny and sexism..what in the world.

I get that some are mentioning it being a PR stunt, and it's bothering people. But damn, why is it that anyone asking any question whatsoever is equal to being Floyd Mayweather all of the sudden? I'm watching it with my wife and daughter. It's Ghostbusters..as a fan of the originals, how am I not?

I just don't understand where that leap comes from..

Real nice of them to do this.

Also, Kate McKinnon looks badass in that outfit and glasses. I hope she's the star of the film. I do have a soft spot for Kristen Wiig though. Not a fan of Melissa McCarthy and I have no idea who Leslie Jones is.

im a big gb fan and the least problem i have with this reboot is the woman cast, but will wait for a trailer at least, but im not digging the suits and the "ghostbusters bike" bring me bad memories of the robocop remake bike

Complete opposite. Maybe I'm just excited to see more Ghostbusters that I don't care, but I'm loving what I see so far.

Then again, nothing will match the original film since big budget films are so formulaic and PC these days.

To be clear, I'm talking about people alleging this is a PR stunt, not necessarily just talking about if kids know who these people are. These are two separate issues.

And from the PR perspective, it seems to be it would be much more valuable PR to do this while the movie is in theaters, rather than this far in advance, and plenty of other people have gone in character near our son after the release of their movies.

I don't think Chris Pratt is doing it for PR, I'm just saying that the tone of some people questioning motives here isn't something I've seen in other threads about this sort of thing, and I'm curious why this is different.

Edit: on the topic of whether people know the characters or not, I'm not sure it matters. I think kids would be excited anyway because they see people in costume, they see people around them being excited, and they might possibly know the actors. No matter what it's a nice interruption from the hospital routine.

Furthermore, the cast went because they're in town. By the time people in the general public know about this, they'll have moved on to other projects. It's a good time to get everyone together, and a nice thing to do. No matter what, I'm straining to see how anyone could see this as a negative.

Wait, the red-haired woman is Kristen Wiig? Is she playing Venkman?

There aren't 1 to 1 analogs for the characters. People are having fun playing that game, but based on the synopses and plot descriptions/character descriptions that have gotten out - there aren't clear analogs for the original crew.

Oh hey for everyone saying it was PR and as if these kids know who they are anyway.

Wanna know why they came? Why the chose that hospital?

They saw these little letter posters that various patients had put up in their window.

The kids called and the Ghostbusters came.

Kids at the Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center in Boston knew the Ghostbusters reboot was filming nearby, and recently put up a sign in one of the widows asking, "Who ya gonna call?"

And the film's stars answered!

Kids literally knew who they were, knew that they were filming close by and hoped to get their attention and it worked and they made those kids happy.

Sporting their proton packs, ghost traps and various other ghostbusting gear, the ladies headed room to room to meet and greet eager fans, including children of all ages and their families.

"They were a true delight to have today," Brooke Hynes, vice president of public affairs and communications for Tufts Medical Center, told PEOPLE. "They were so kind to all the kids and their parents. They took their time in each room visiting children as young as a few months to teens.

"We cannot thank them enough for the happiness and excitement they created."

The ladies even checked under a number of beds and scanned some children, just to be sure there were no ghosts around.

...the wrong Ghostbusters came!

This has been a thing for a while now. Despite their current popularity, they are making folks happy regardless. Nobody was up in arms when "nobody" Chris Pratt showed up to hospitals.

The Ghostbusters those kids wanted showed up :p.
