Gamescom: Microsoft press conference (August 4; Scalebound, Crackdown, QB, H5+ more)

Crackdown 2 was made in a incredibly short amount of time, it's quality is not telling of the franchises quality.

It's not telling of the franchise quality, but it was telling about how much they cared that they weren't willing to give the game more time in the oven.

Emphasis on was. I'm not passing judgement or anything, but just talking history.

Lol are you for real?

I reaaaaaly didn't like Crackdown 1 for some reason and didn't give 2 too much of a chance to have an opinion about it. I'm just not someone who likes collecting orbs and the rest of the game felt meh. I don't know.

But the people who like CD really like CD and I can appreciate that.

I'll stay open minded about 3. That's the best I can do.

Scalebound and Quantum Break. Very excited to see some gameplay. Kinda unrelated, but I am also excited to see some Halo 5 E-sport action.

Probably going to unveil one or two new small project with the same scope as Max: The Curse of Brotherhood, announce the new UI for preview member & new gameplay for already announced games. All what I want is just QB and Scalebound but going to watch the conference hoping they might announce something that interests me.

MS could probably get away with a smaller design already without a die shrink - the current design was clearly over-engineered from a thermal perspective. Given the 360's launch issues, they obviously went in with a mindset of playing it safe and designing the system to make sure it absolutely, positively doesn't cook itself to death.

Now that they have some long-term data on how the components work in the final design in a real-world setting (rather than the non-final hardware in a lab setting they will have been working with pre-release), they could slim down the system just by tightening the thermal margins (and there are probably some opportunities to simplify/further integrate the overall board layout, although those aren't reliant on an external redesign).

Hell, the existence of the PS4 shows that components very similar to the ones in the XB1 can clearly work in a much smaller enclosure (although they seem to have focussed on minimizing fan noise since the 360 slim, so they probably wouldn't go for a PS4-style design with a blower).

Not saying it's going to happen, but I don't think it's completely outside the realm of possibility.

Yeah, it could be smaller but like you said, they are going for the whisper quiet aspect as well so that's another knock against it happening this year.

I dream but, i want a new Amped... :'(
That would be fantastic, so long as its more part 1 or 2 than the goofy 3. There are ZERO boarding games these days, it could make a decent splash. Amped was utterly fantastic.

Platinum Dust

that.

Doesn't he hate Microsoft now?

My guess is he didn't want to fly over and do a PR thing where he just says "We're not talking about that right now" when asked questions about the game when he could just be, you know, working on the game. Microsoft insisted, thus the angry tweets about being a stage prop and MS fucking with him.

Stoked for more Halo 5. Excited for Scalebound. Meh on Crackdown unless they show something exciting. Interested in Quantum Break and the show tie in.

Hoping the new UI gets a thorough reveal too.

The announcement of fully destructible buildings in Crackdown has me really excited to see that in action. If I can C4/tether/rocket things together and just cause mass destruction, I'll be really pleased.

I expect QB will be a significant letdown. Crackdown I think could go either way. I think Scalebound will be solid, although it will go largely unnoticed.

I realise this may be off topic but...why is Sony not putting on a conference at Gamescom? MS now has a free pass for hype at the biggest consumer related games event in the world. Seems crazy

Yeah, I want to feel like an actual superhero. Like with that big ass globe thing from CD1, I want to grab that and throw that through a building or with that one boss that was at the top of that big ass tower, I want to drive my car in there throw C4s on it and bring that bitch down or at least mess it up. It's a shame RFG is still the best out there.

There last showing at Gamescom was nothing special, only reason I am still excited for the game is because it is made by Remedy.

Not a one to one comparison obv, but that exclusive cover based shooter with lots and lots of cutscenes interruption in a quest to mimic another medium. Order had movies, this will be be television episodes between gameplay
