Final Fantasy XV 'Dawn' trailer

nuykvqbmpf.gif

What a fucking strange mish mash of styles. Medieval knights holding guns and 1950s cars in the streets.

I'm really not sure all this works as well as they think it does.

The most interesting part of the teaser might be the three fuzzy giants at the end. Are they premonitions of Lucis' demise that only Regis can see? Are they gods watching over Noctis, their chosen servant?

In general, I feel some are overstating their confusion about the hug scene, because it's really not hard to piece together the basic sentiment behind it. That final scene with the fuzzy giants would definitely have been more impactful with some context, though.

Good summary.
Only problem is, this contains some 2013E3 contents.

I specifically picked everything from trailers that were already branded XV, nothing about Versus since I assume most of that is gone. But who knows what's been cut and what's not after all.

The 1950's cars don't really stretch believability. I mean, just look at Cuba and the consequences of the US embargo. When you pair that with the knights tho it does look a little weird but I don't think it'll break anyone's suspense of disbelief.

it looks great and refreshing in this 0815 industry

next to the soundtrack the only positive aspect from that trailer

What did I just watch?

I just read another posters lore-heavy breakdown of the trailer and if that's what they're going for with this trailer, they have lost the plot.

This is not the kind of thing you release on it's own. It should've been bundled with another general, more FF-virgin friendly trailer for us newbs.

*shrug*

Good trailer. Showed a cool scene without spoiling much. Hope they continue this way up to release.

Those facial animations were fantastic. You could feel the emotion.

I agree. Glad they didn't spoil much, and because of no expectations, I was able to soak up the sadness and sorta feel something for both poor little Noctis, and his likely Father; for the most, part since I don't know the context for why pops has to split...

I would imagine that the climax for this game might be fairly amazing, emotionally, due to the cathartic dynamic of a Son returning to his Father; or perhaps heartbreaking if Noct has to do something to his Father that would not be pleasant... :/

Seeing how this Versus XIII turned into XV, I am almost sure Agni's Philosophy is FFXVI. That tech demo had much content and universe elements that it can be exploited as a full game. Mark my words.

I assumed they were fal'Cie coming to make Noctis their l'Cie, or, y'know, whatever terms they've been renamed now that the lore isn't related to XIII and has likely been retooled.

There's still a sleeping goddess, right? Is it still Etro?

I thought it was a terrible trailer, but I didn't think I needed an explanation for it. I didn't even think about the context of the FF13 stuff and understood what was happening. It just lingered too long and didn't show what I wanted it to. Released as part of a larger trailer, I probably wouldn't mind, and even then I appreciate the emotion they conveyed.

Someone said that Tabata confirmed at Gamescom that the trailer was just a teaser, I hope it's true but it probably isn't.

We'll see how it ends up in the full game, but in the trailer it definitely broke my sense of disbelief.

Again, things could be different when we get the full game, but generally you shouldn't just plop these elements on top of each other and call it a day. It becomes an incomprehensible mash of things. If you want these differing styles in your art direction, you need to take smaller pieces of them and bring them together until you have a unified art style. You need to get influence from the design aspects of the eras, not just throw them in together.

Right now it looks like the character designer really loved medieval knights look, the story called for guns, and the environmental designer really loved the 1950s and none of them talked to each other.

Trailer but was short, but I actually kind of like it. The towering shadows reminded me of Alexander.

It also displayed some genuine human emotion which was missing from FF13 so...good?

I do too. People always complain about either too medieval or too sci-fi/realistic. Why not something in-between?

It's tricky to get the balance right though. It's potentially interesting on paper, but they have to nail down the story explanation and the way the people react to different technologies along with the script have to be believable and convincing to not make the whole thing completely fall apart.

Given that until they announced the trailer, we had every reason to believe there'd be a bunch of new stuff during the ATR, I don't see why this wouldn't be true.

Whether we get a "full" trailer today or not, it's pretty much a given that we'll be getting new info and presumably gameplay of non-Duscae stuff.

Sorry, I had to.

Hahaha :P

People love quoting this avatar. I enjoy it too honestly!

Please be excited!

Edit:

Yeah that's for sure, it would be weird if they hired all those YouTubers for this marketing campaign and then we would just receive a trailer with 3 scenes. Well at least they didn't spoil anything.

It's Bhunivelze, Pulse, and Lindzei.

Cue the screaming.

I know you're joking but it bears mentioning that the previous designs of any of the above three have no resemblance to the ones shown here.

But I want to hear peoples analysis of this, because we might hit on some similarities and uncover something. It'd be a more interesting topic than whining.

Well, you can make deserts look interesting. Fauna, rock formations, towns, oasis, epic creatures on the loose.

FFXIV has a pretty lively desert. But it DOES still look like a desert.

Yeah, deserts are not just "lol yellow sand everywhere" or completely barren places. There are many kinds of them and they're sadly not all that well represented in games. FFXIV definitely does a pretty good job though.

Hmm, why bother annouce the trailer if it's going to be just teaser?

I have a feeling that Square Enix might not expect this much of backslash and now rushing on something that can be a full trailer. ATR is supposed to be reveal of game system and detail. But not another trailer.

they could always end it with a trailer or start it with one.
