Assassin's Creed Syndicate: Official Evie Gamescom Demo

Can't wait to play this although knowing Ubisoft I'll have to wait at least a month after release to play through the game with an acceptable framerate.

Apparently "Chameleon is a higher level move not available from the start." No idea how far into the game this is. And that white room confession was so very clearly edited to avoid spoilers. But not very well, reminded me of how movie clips are condensed into one minute for marketing purposes.

Looks decent, though I'm not a fan of her going Predator mode while idly crouching.

"We don't know how to design stealth missions so we just put this invisible skill in the game because we don't really give a shit anymore."

Oh and thank god they're highlighting the different paths in the environment, I was worried you'd actually have to think about what you want to do for a moment there. I hope you can turn that stuff off.

Watched a little bit of it but don't want to spoil too much. Looks great and I'm glad that black box missions are back although I doubt there was any chance they wouldn't be.

Looking forward to getting my hands on the game in a couple months.

She can straight up become invisible? Wonder if it works during a chase.
Only works if Evie is standing completely still in stealth mode. Probably doesn't work if enemies are alerted and searching for you, that would too OP imo.

I like how the invisibility mechanic is for some reason the straw that breaks the camels back for immersiveness in this universe for people.

Black Box missions were great in Unity, so I'll be looking forward to those here, too.

Though I guess it must be me, but for whatever reason I think Unity looks better visually. I dunno.

But it's cool that the POE in this game is gonna be The Shroud, that's the one Jesus used in AC-Lore.

Ah, I see. I'll probably end up skipping that move if possible, since it somewhat takes me out of the game.

After watching that Evie video, I can't.

In the same year as MGSV, the stealth in unity just looks like a bad joke. I don't think they will ever fix the Ai. I mean FFS, she stabbed an impostor, the guard in front turns around, she has barely even made it past the corner, and the guy is like "oh, its nothing".

Not to mention the series simply can't support stealth gameplay with its combat. The transition from stealth to combat isn't natural, since it shifts the camera, therefore encouraging combat because the camera has entered "combat mode", where as in a stealth game you are supposed to avoid the enemy and make them lose your position and re engage the stealth loop.

MGS does this by never changing perspective to signify you are in combat, just lets you know enemies are aware of you and its best to lose them, where as AC actively encourages combat.

At least do what batman does and have a clear distinction between when you should fight or engage in stealth, because enemies with guns can kill Batman quickly. Where as here, when you fail the stealth loop, everyone pulls out knives and canes.

I'm fucking out. I'm just going to watch the cutscenes on youtube.

I can't justify returning back to this series unless they actually take it seriously.

This isn't even about the ubisoft game formula, which I honestly don't mind as much as most of GAF, but when looking at the other ubisoft games that share this formula, AC is easily the weakest when it comes to gameplay.

AND ITS THEIR FLAG SHIP SERIES!

People often talk AC games down after they're released and still get hyped for the next because of the settings etc. only to be let down again (not everyone of course), but I haven't really detected that same familiar "hyped again!" air this time around. The game looks gorgeous and I love the idea of victorian london but these videos so far just haven't managed to grab me at all.

Decent video and walkthrough but are the kills at the end just cinematic? I didn't see any button prompt or anything. That's kind of disappointing if that's the way it is depending on the option you use. And funny how no one notices Evie's left arm being "free". LOL.

Still pre-ordering and picking up on release day but it's funny how Rogue and Black Flag have been better thus far than Unity and possibly, Syndicate.

Considering the competition it's just too little too late at this point. No "iconic" rope launchers or detection circles are going to save it. Whole series needs a reboot, it's been on a downward spiral post Brotherhood. With perhaps Black Flag as an exception with the boat but really that's not what Assassin's Creed should be.

Unity definitely looks better visually. It seems that they scaled down the engine capability to allow for a better performance on the consoles.

In fact, this could also explain the PC delay and lack of PC footage. Maybe the graphics on PC will keep the same visual fidelity as Unity did, but running better.

Instead of addressing the awful AI in regards to stealth, they throw in straight up invisibility. Wtf?

Some games media sites are comparing it to the carboard box from MGS. From what I understand if a guard walks into you, you will be detected.

That demo is the best I've seen of Syndicate yet.

The Black Box seems better realized than even Unity, and that game done it well. It remains to be seen how many Black Box's will be in the game.

Things like feigning an arrest to get into the building, complete with a unique cutscene for doing so, show a good attention to detail.

The animation for the horizontal rope launcher seems smoothed. Instead of the janky grip then slide shown previously it seems much more like using a Batman gadget. The vertical rope launcher also seemed quite smooth in its use.

There wasn't really any combat shown outside of the snippet from the alternative playthrough, but it did look less jank to me.

Graphically it's the first demo that looks on par with Assassin's Creed: Unity. If they manage a smooth 30fps framerate that will be quite a positive for the experience.

Not a bad demonstration. I don't really have an interest in playing it, still. I don't expect I'll get it.

Really looking forward to this. Have my copy paid in full. Looking like a nice return to a great AC game.

Actually I'd kinda argue the ship in AC4 is an example of what AC should be. I understand this totally goes against my complaints about the stealth since black flag has an mission design problems and poor stealth, but its world is realized and they made smart use of mechanics based on the time period of that game.

Black Flags world is the most realized AC world since Brotherhood and 2. I'd even argue for Revelations and 1. It feels authentic. It replicated that feeling I got when I played AC2 and red dead redemption. That is was a world I wanted to be in.

America, Paris England and now London don't feel real to me. It feels fake.

The ship was so good, that I looked over a majority of black flags flaws because I just adored sailing listening to shanties.

IMO the ship is the best gameplay mechanic the series has ever had.

If ubi makes a pirate open world game, I'd have no objections.

I want to love AC, I really do. I love its concept, but ubi just keeps fucking up the execution for a yearly release fix, that I have quickly lost interest in it.

Nah. It's ballpark but definitely not the full fidelity of Unity. It's like when you see the main singleplayer component of a game and then the multiplayer version is a little less impressive. This is Unity's multiplayer component, visually.

I get what you're saying. I agree that the AC games should be first and foremost a faithful recreation of the time, but the ship and more importantly the character isn't Assassin's Creed to me. For me it's still all about the first one with gaining intel for the targets, really focusing on who they are, piecing together what their end goal is and stopping them before they can accomplish it. AC should have always been a far more focused and intimate series but just spiraled out of control into a sprawling mess of activities and collectibles. Black Flag should have been a separate series entirely.

That's the best footage from the game so far, actually seems quite fun.

Helps that she's not a complete cunt like her brother too.

Invisible cloak? Hahaha.

The play movement has too much weight. Needs to be quick and light.

That cane will be fun to use in combat. Lookin' sweet, the UI is cleaner this time around, too.
Best way to play is with the HUD off except for the minimap imo. I wonder if anyone attempted to sneak all the way through. I hope the target reacts to different mission "states" and have different dialogue depending on what the player does, she's completely calm here because she thinks Evie was captured. If the player starts the guard revolt she should react to that too.

I'm not sure why that is though. Is it because Quebec isn't really familiar with the engine Montreal made? Because the game doesn't look as good as unity in terms of facial models. Evie and Jacob don't look as good as Elise and Arno did.

I'd have expected the visual fidelity to have been increased, since it seems they aren't over doing unity's crowds, which killed performance and was at a whole completely useless.

As a huge Assassins Creed fan there are some things that grabbed my attention:
-Yay playable female assassin!
-Game looks quite a lot like AC Unity in terms of graphics, probably a tad better.
-Chameleon ability? Okay, should make things easier.
-Is it me of is eagle vision becoming OP as fuck with each game.
-Loving the rope, got tired of climbing building in AC Unity. This should make climbing and traversal more pleasing.
-Like the options to assassinate the target, is the type of freedom I like in open world games.
-Liking the music so far, AC Unity's OST was very forgettable.
-Love that the assassination room (when you kill a target and you hear their last words) is back. Can't remember the last time I saw them.

Alright AC you got me once again. That's 8 main AC games (including Liberation, haven't played Rogue yet) I have played. Hopefully the story in this one is better than AC Unitys.

I also understand what you are saying. I mean, the series is called "Assassin's Creed". I understand what the dev team is trying to do with these "black box missions" but I don't feel smart doing them. The game just advertises at the very beginning of these missions DO THESE TO WIN! Its the same reason I didn't think the GTA Heists were special because they were essentially just "travel packages" advertised to me. I just picked one and followed the script.

If they made these things you discovered while planning your route to the target by yourself, I'd probably like them more, as opposed to the colorful icons plastered on the screen.

I think the reason 2 is so well loved is because it hit that happy medium of what both you and I looked for. It's Italy felt real, and the game felt intimate.

Even the collectible in 2 had a story significance as opposed to unity with the "hey look at all these fucking chests, look at all this "content""

Its a shame IMO, when the best gameplay in the series doesn't even fit the theme the original set out with.

Freedom to play the mission however you want does not equal three defined options. It's about as player-driven as a dialogue tree.

-Love that the assassination room (when you kill a target and you hear their last words) is back. Can't remember the last time I saw them.
Yes! And it seems that the story is focused on Pieces of Eden. I like that.
Canon story was butchered in Black Flag and Unity, I want them to go back to true AC universe.
