Aw man, I'm out for lunch with my coworkers so I'm gonna miss the start of Cthulhu day 2. I'll see if I can at least refresh and make sure I wasn't killed when it updates :p

I love how some people want to play so methodologically, so calculated, so verbose and safe. Yet, never really getting anywhere.

Waiting with bated breath to see the Night 1 results for Cthulhu, should be very interesting.

I had better not be dead.

Zatoth better not be late, I'm holding off my lunch break to see results so I can post from a computer and not my phone.

Maybe Crab can update post #2 when he wakes up

If someone modkills him then he will have plenty of time to update it. Just saying.

And here I thought we sucked for losing the doctor. Wow. The Cthulhu game has really raised the bar. Sure, they killed a cultist, so there's that I guess.
Can't believe we've sucked the most so far.

Hey, no one died last night!

Eh. They got a cultist, that's a good night.

Aw man :( I knew it in my gut. I think I played decently enough at least...

Is there anyone over at the dead thread already? Guess I'll join them if so. EDIT: Unless there is any urgent need for replacements, in which case I'll volunteer to keep the games active.

Ah well. Looking forward to season 3! Maybe I'll work on my Doctor Who flavor proposal in the meantime :p

I hope that i'll be in a better position to play by the time season 3 starts.

I'm still going to keep watching the archer game though.

I may need one if TheAwesomePossum or Kristoffer don't get back to me in a day or two.

I want a special role for Karkador. NK Immune Neutral Doctor. He's a mad scientist who wants to experiment on the recently dead and wins if he manages to save 5 players.

I have a general Mafia question. Are Mafia allowed to PM each other during the day phase, or is that generally frowned down upon?

They have their own message board to discuss their moves.

Depending on the rules they may only be allowed to discuss the game during night phase.

But in our three games they can discuss day and night.

Next mafia game I run, I'm banning post-counting as a tactic. Mark my words.

I think it's completely legitimate to point out whether someone posts very little. We're not talking about actual data analysis or analyzing posting patterns, let alone using data from previous games to build some neural network, but just about whether or not someone has been very active in a longer time span, in my case ca. twenty-four hours.

Mafia is a game that requires player participation. There are many good reasons not to post much, real life always must come first. That said, it can also be used to fly under the radar, thus I consider counting posts helpful to find potential suspects and useful to start a discussion. Might as well ban looking at previous posts.

I understand that post counting can be problematic, but I don't think it should be banned *per se*.

I really can't comment on my reasoning too much, but generally speaking, it's a sucky and desperate tactic, IMO.

The problem with gauging anything by player post counts is that you are going to have people who post way more than others, and it skews the entire perception of what "a normal range of posting" should be. The rules we've been using obligate people to post once per day phase. That's once every four days or so. In other words, we're looking at the acceptable baseline of posts for these games right now being, what...2 posts? That's a lot less than what people are being called out for.

Of course, it's good if people participate more than that, but we're seeing the overall post counts in these games creep up each gen (creep is an understatement). I'd say we're easily going to reach 3x the posts in these games as the first game, and yet I don't feel like that first game was lacking in posts or discussion.

Post frequency doesn't mean much. There might be more substance to the posts of someone with 1/4 the posts of the top posters. Aside from people being busy, there might be different motivations for why someone would want to deliberately stay quiet - it's not always good or bad. People can reason it either way, so it's a not a clear indicator.

It's just clumsy, meta-game reasoning. I believe one of the reasons we've been having chaotic occurrences in our games is because people are putting more value on talking any amount of shit over maintaining a measured silence.
