Destiny: the taken kings new approach to story telling

It sounds good but I don't really trust them anymore. These promises before the release of Destiny sounded exactly the same to me. I will wait a bit and if they really deliver I will gladly buy it but Bungie doesn't deserve the blank check yet.

I'd prefer the drive-by GAFers aim their nonsense elsewhere. I'll never understand the people on this board who, instead of actually participating in discussions of games they do enjoy, choose to instead drop into threads merely to troll that discussions participants.
There are so many game threads that have discussion with all manner of opinions. Do you think everyone who discusses MGS4 are there because they enjoyed it? Mass Effect 3? Assassin's Creed 3? Assassin's Creed Unity? Why do you think Destiny is some special little snowflake that should only have people who enjoy the game discuss it? I think you think a little too highly of yourself if you think these comments are solely there to troll the player base.

Surprise, not everyone is going to believe Bungie when they made grand claims about their story last time.

I think you may have misunderstood my point about trolling. There is an enormous difference between coming into a thread and posting a reasoned, well thought out post like this:

I'll believe it when I see it. They said they were bringing "Bungie's brand of storytelling in a brand new universe" before Destiny's launch and we all saw how that ended up.

Anyways, they lost enough trust from me that they're not going to get me back with the taken king and these promises. But if this turns out good (which I hope it does), I'm more likely to get back into it when the next few expansions have released.

Compared to the ad nauseum posts by trolls of "That was one long, overpriced expensive beta."

Disagreement and discussion is delightful. Being an ass and dive bombing a thread? Not as much.

They shou give me back first the money I wasted for the vanila game and then I'll reconsider joining it again.

This game is IMO one of the biggest money scams of this generation.
Even if this "expansion" turns awsome, in a couple of months they are going to release some lvl-increasing dlc anyway.

But it seems they gutted vanilla Destiny just to sell us this. Doesn't sit right with me.

That rumor is actually not true. In a forty minute interview on Fireteam Chat (IGN) last week, Bungie confirmed that even The Dark Below content didn't even exist before launch last year.

Were there a couple of rooms in the game at launch that were closed off? Absolutely, but no content was developed for those areas yet.

I can understand getting burned by vanilla destiny at launch, but everything we've heard about taken king has been good news

Everything we heard about vanilla Destiny before launch was 'good news' too. Those of us that felt betrayed by the pile of crap that was the Destiny universe at launch, aka loot grinder simulator 5000, will move forward with disbelief of anything they say until they prove it.

I'll never be buying another Bungie game at launch again, ever. I was a devout fan since the Marathon days, but they lost my faith and will never regain it. Everything they say will be taken as PR hype until I see the proof in the pudding.

Now if they prove themselves, if TTK really is great story telling, great gameplay, and a less nonsensical leveling system? Then yeah, I'll probably play it. But I won't be preordering it or anything else they make. I won't be there on day one. I'll wait and see how it shakes out.

A great game gets better.

To those who are talking about getting back in—do it! I had the game at launch but didn't play for a variety of RL reasons. I never felt the burn of the TDB releveling of exotics BS, but they've seen the error of their ways. The game is much more approachable now.

I'm not seeing much difference. You get those same kind of posts in other divisive games' threads.

It just sounds like you have no tolerance for snark and are seemingly equating that to trolling you personally instead of that person yknow, saying something about a game they don't like.

While you're certainly entitled to that opinion, I honestly don't take any of it personally. Life's far too short to let a troll do that.

Not to mention that I'm neither a Bungie employee nor shareholder... I'm just another guardian of the light.

I hope they do release more dlc. More content for a game I enjoy. Do you have a problem with wow,ff14, Diablo, or any other loot game? This happens by design.

Destiny has changed SO MUCH over the last year. I recommend everyone to give it another shot; Bungie really stepped it up.

If you don't enjoy the game then definitely don't spend any more money on it, there are tons of great games out there you might enjoy more. But the expansion and leveling thing is just par for the course with an MMO-like game such as Destiny, it's going to keep happening.

You could take some time away and then try it again in the future with some "comprehensive edition" of all expansions, similar to the Taken King + vanilla + DLC 1 and 2 you can get now. Much cheaper than buying everything along the way, and people who start playing now will be in a much better place than vanilla Destiny which admittedly had a lot of problems to iron out.

I might be in the wait till next year camp. Lots of good games this fall, and I got pretty burnt out on Destiny. Also after everything I simply don't believe them about the improvements. Would like to see it out in the wild a bit first.

I tried it a second time and yes Bungie changed some things but it just felt like content that should have been there on day one and nothing else. A lot of people give way too much credit for that imo (btw I'm not a hater).

as a bungie employee i fully agree! please come back

Zizek working for Bungie? That's really fucked up.

Did they really say the Cryptarch is a character with depth?

I believe they said he's one of the most popular and quoted characters. But fleshing Master Rahool out with a bit more character and depth would be most welcome.

One could even go so far as to say doing so would make him "always interesting!"

I love the reef cryptarch and how he is still new to guardians. "Let me guess, you're a hunter, yes?"

As a fan of Bungie and Halo, I really do enjoy Destiny but it's hard not to avoid all the game's problems. They still have an enormous amount of work to do especially in terms of story telling and mission design. Vanilla Destiny's story is almost non-existent and what little is there feels so barren, hallow and pretentious. It sounds like it was hastily written in under 30 minutes as a 12th graders book report. The irony is you can clearly tell they've put a lot of effort into building this universe but so far they've done very very little with it. Destiny certainly has potential and the overall premise and setting is really interesting and intriguing however, it feels like they've barely scratched the surface of all that potential. Vanilla Destiny feels oddly like the Order 1886 in that the first game's sole purpose is to serve as a very brief introduction to a planned franchise (a huge sequel bait basically), there to solely justify/sell the franchise's own existence.

TTK admittidely does looks like a Destiny 1.5 or Destiny: Redux and I do look forward to all the changes they're making but I do sincerely hope Bungie actually makes massive improvements for the mainline sequels, they need at least 3-to-4 times the amount of content and variety and stop with ridiculously timed exclusive content nonsense. Vanilla Destiny's not a great nor a terrible one, in its current form it's merely mediocre. I just expected Bungie were capable of SOOO much more and better than what the initial game was. I don't feel lied to, just mislead a bit.

I don't think they've managed to tell much of a story at all throughout the vanilla game and the two expansions, but its good to see they're still working on it. They need to bubble up a lot of that grimoire stuff into the game somehow, and definitely not as exposition dumps.

Varis and Petra made for more interesting characters than before, but there isn't very much to them outside of a few bits of dialogue. At least House of Wolves felt very self-contained and less like a stub to setup the next expansion.

I finally burned myself out on Destiny a couple weeks back. I couldn't care less about Destiny's story (or lack thereof). What would truely get me into year two is more PvP modes. I would love a 'basic' mode where there are no supers and you use basic weapons. I get tired of being killed repeatedly by a string of supers. More vehicles would be nice as well.

Enjoy games your way and screw anyone who says otherwise 👏👏👏👏

Hahahaha... thanks, Sagan. Guardians Anonymous may be in my future. ;)

Call it a hunch, but Mayhem may not be the new mode for you. It sounds like you're talking HALO PvP... that would be an outstanding addition. And who better to do it than Bungie?

This is good. Brings the focus back to the story of Destiny as opposed to people just grinding for hundreds of hours trying to get their first gjallarhorn. I was talking with a younger cousin, he's only like 12 but has like 791 hours supposedly on Destiny in just a few months. He didn't care about the story, the characters, the music, anything. He only just grinded with friends. This is a sharp contrast to Halo, where the story drove the game almost as much as the multiplayer. TTK seems like it's back to world building for the Destiny universe and I hope they carry it into Destiny 2. I'm jumping in with TTK too.
But you do realize at the end of the day, the grind/raids/caps and weekly resets is what keeps people playing.

In other words:

Bungie: The game's just about ready! We've got all this awesome story to tell about the traveller being evil, and infighting between the factions and-

Activision: What? no! You're supposed to cater to the COD crowd here! Cut that shit!

Bungie: What?!

Activision: You Heard Me!

Bungie: ...Fine...

Joseph Staten: YOU CAN'T CUT BACK ON STORY!! YOU WILL REGRET THIS!! *Walks out*

(One Year And Many terrible reviews about the story later)

Bungie: See what you've done?

Activision (in a moment of clarity): Okay, fine, do what you want, we've got the players hooked anyway..

Bungie: That's more like it! Now, to salvage this piece of crap...

Glad I waited a year for this, Destiny's finally starting to shape up to be the game I was looking for. They should've waited a year, too.

Lol because Bungie are going to admit that they shipped half a game.

lol I guess I am. It would be a great addition either way.

Certainly the internet breeds this contempt from behind the comfort provided by their keyboards, but the trolls are rife on this board more and more lately.

I had an awful, disappointing experience with the next unique game from one of my favorite developers of all time.

But yes, just pass it off as internet hate and trolls.

Halo single handedly switched me from a PlayStation fan to Xbox fan for two generations.

Destiny is a pointless grind through about 6 hours of missions they expect you to replay for 100+ hours with zero story and boring missions. I could not possibly have been more disappointed unless they had decided to make f2p puzzle games.

I hope this game turns around but please don't think anyone who harbors hate for this game and bungie for wasting years making it as "trolls" and their opinions invalid.

I just don't get it. They haven't addressed the copy paste waves of enemies mission design..they haven't shown new varieties of mission types or vehicles or a great variety of new enemies that will do more than absorb more and more bullets. Why is this any different than launch destiny?

I'm going in head-first; I can't wait for all the updates - the changes!

EDIT: I'm not being sarcastic either..

...sorry Dinkle-lodge - maybe next time bro.

That was over 9 months ago ? The game has changed immensely since then and your post is laughably incorrect even for vanilla destiny since the shining star of vanilla was the raids and co op gameplay. It is time to move on from the vanilla complaints. It really is.

Have they said how many new areas there are going to be?
The biggest reason the DLC felt like a rip off was that it was all the same areas with very minor additions.

dreadnaught is the only new patrol area. Apparently it's pretty huge. the fact that you can't use sparrows there only adds in padding its size. I believe they said the first mission takes place in a location
cabal ship
specific to that mission.

So having watched that video I have to say I'm actually excited. It's nice to see Bungie finally embracing what Destiny really is and actually going full bore into it now instead of trying to walk a line. Also it seems like there is a lot more actual story now which is great.

I am excited. I can't wait to play the game again come release of TTK.

But how many people honestly can get a group together for that stuff? I can't. Without matchmaking the raids may as well not exist.

And all this bullahit about the raids not working with randoms I don't want to hear it. If I can get on csgo and have a good team based competitive experience in that game I think people can figure out a destiny raid..

I don't think anyone really knows. It seems like the ship area is the only new one? There's still going to be posts of reused zones here.
