Upgrade to Windows 10?

Hmm, that launches it, but as soon as it launches, it says im not in game on Steam

Used to do that on battle.net

Edit: did the second command and it works now.
Thanks a lot man
Now to get the overlay working with it so I can t chat :V

No problem at all.

And I think we've all learned to hate metro apps a little bit more after this. ;)

I'm still on 8.1 pro. My question is if I have pro, why am I updating to Windows 10 Home?

Because Home/Pro/Premium are just marketing term.
Win 8.1 will die just like 7 and probably faster due to the smaller audience, might as well get a free $99 product from MS now.

I'm just waiting for the 5.1 surround sound issues to be sorted out. I read some users were experiencing issues. Not sure how if that has been fixed now.

Doesn't Windows 10 pro provide you with more security? Does it really matter?

Just got another big cumulative update.
Said could not complete and undoing changes.

WTF just happened?

Oh shit. I think I'm in an endless start up loop

Anybody know a way out?

Edit... finally booted

So it's been a few days now and still haven't encountered any problems aside from the annoyances I've already mentioned.
Did Firefox just get a big W10 compatibility update or something? Browser feels faster than it was at W10 launch and scrolling seems smoother. Just me? Feels like they added motion blur while scrolling too lol. I didn't want to move to Edge.

edit: yeah. version 40. nice.

http://www.engadget.com/2015/08/11/firefox-version-40-windows-10-features/

Yeah, improvements but it messed up my color bars that I just did yesterday, changed to a dark theme which worked fine and something I hadn't done before with FF but the minimize, max/tile and close buttons remained bright white, hopefully that's something that gets hotfixed.

Been using W10 now since July 30th, and I agree with all the Nvidia complaints, however blocking W10's own Nvidia drivers with the tool linked many times works as a workaround for now.

Windows Media Player and Windows Media Player Classic = both 100% broken for me since updating to W10 though, ANY playback of ANY videofile crashes WMP or WMPC.

W10 is WAY smaller or something, since free space went from 60GB -> 100GB, 60GB free before updating to W10 and 100GB free after updating to W10 and removing W7 rollback files.

Is anyone else having problems with Battle.net after upgrading to windows 10? I try to login but it gives me an error code. After looking on their website, nothing lead me to a solution.

I just wanna play some Hearthstone :(

Win + X > Control Panel > System and Security > System > Advanced System Settings > Hardware tab > Device Installation Settings > Never install driver software from Windows Update

(Don't forget to uninstall drivers from WU after that)

Also, I feel like I'm one of the lucky ones in Windows 10. No bugs, no crashes, nothing at all, except for one bug in Edge that freezes it when I hit "run" in a download. Then again, I'm a Chrome user, so no big deal. Loving the system so far. Hope they release updates to fix the issues you guys are having.

Better use my option. More definitive and secure.

It would be a nice option, and I'd recommend it if it actually worked.

Holy shit, this sounds like an upgrade deal breaker.

Just upgraded from windows 7 and immediately did a refresh, and my god, my PC is so much quicker now! Before the upgrade/refresh my PC would often take 10 to 15 minutes to boot fully (I know, I know, I have no idea what caused this), but now it takes 1 to 1,5 minutes. That is what I call an improvement!

Yeah this doesn't work. It still installs a driver from WU if no driver is present for some h/w. And I've blocked automatic updates via gpedit a long time ago so it's not that.

I've done some digging around yesterday and here's what I found in regards to Firefox 40: https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/3gnmm6/hardware_acceleration_not_working_in_firefox_40/

Pre-yesterday:

Since yesterday:

This is exactly what I'm seeing right now on 353.62/980Ti with FF40. Funny thing is that it (FF40 beta during the whole beta period) worked just fine prior to yesterday's release of FF40 and MS patches. No idea how that got broken but I think it's something Mozilla should take a look at.

I built my dad a PC yesterday and I randomly decided to upgrade his Win8 directly to Win10 right after installing. At least now I can mess around with W10 for a bit to see if I want it on my PC.

It's really nice so far, actually. I do want it. But it doesn't want to recognize a bluetooth dongle I have for an extra mouse/keyboard set. I use that so I can control things from the couch at the coffee table.

Just upgrade my 5 years old ASUS U36JC to windows 10.

It boots up so much faster than windows 7 and everything runs fluidly.

These are the programs I have tried:
Office 2013
PhotoShop CS5
PhotoImpact X3
Power Director 13
SolidWorks 2014
Altium Designer 15
LabView 2011
Matlab 2015
Firefox 40

However, my scanner (Plustek OpticSlim 2600) stop working (appears in devices but scan App can't find it) and reinstalling drivers doesn't help.

And my double finger scroll doesn't work in modern apps, settings and start menu.

If these two issues can be solved, this will be a 97/100 upgrade. Now it is a 89/100 upgrade.

SLI works fine for me on the few games I have tried, Witcher 3, GTAV, Diablo 3 and so on.

Plenty of issues with SLI in some games, including GTA V.

Anyways here's the latest from Manuel G:

Nvidia said:
Just a quick update. We will be releasing a new driver soon that will address some of the issues reported by users in this thread. One of the fixes that won't be in this driver will be for the reported crashing in Battlefield 4 in SLI mode. A hotfix driver will be released as soon as a fix is available. We are currently testing a possible fix so hopefully it won't much longer.

Didn't have that problem in the short time I tried GTAV. And, whoever made that video needs to use MSI Afterburner or EVGA Precision to display more info, like CPU & GPU usage, VRAM usage and etc. People need to stop using FRAPS. As for BF4, don't play it. I am not saying the current drivers are perfect, but for the games I tried, SLI does work.

Hmmm weird, I'm not getting that myself.

Happening for other users including myself. Play around in GTA V enough that you'll see it happen. I didn't notice anything strange at first but it's like BF4/BFH Hardline, a couple of minutes in and the game goes to shit. GTA V actually never crashes, but you'll get stuck around 13 fps no matter what you do or where you go like in that user video.
Was definitely not happening pre-Windows 10, 353.62 drivers.

The fact that the thread on Geforce forums is already 98 pages long and that they won't even get the BF4 fix in the next drivers should indicate you on problematic these drivers are.

Anyone had any issues upgrading if they installed an SSD and used Samsung's packaged software to transplant your OS onto it?

I keep getting an error with no attached error code:

'Something Happened

Sorry, we're having trouble determining if your PC can run Windows 10. Please close Setup and try again.'

It's not an OEM copy, so I'm not sure what to do.

I did exactly this and had no issues :/

Well, I'm certainly not the only one with this problem.
There's also this now.

And here's the reason - Mozilla blocked the driver due to crashes of FF happening on it in Win10.
Which is funny because I've had zero TDRs in Win10 with FF40 running 353.62 driver. This blocking decision seems an overkill really.

Yeah that's odd, I had zero crashes with firefox since switching to Windows 10, why the hell would they do that.
Anyways, I'm impatiently waiting for new Nvidia drivers. The way I see it, they really screwed the pouch with their Windows 10 support considering they had so much time to prepare for it and all they can do is release this stinker of 353.62 driver? Please...

It seriously doesn't work for you guys? Then it's bugged for some reason, because it never tried to download any driver here. I'm not sure if that's the reason, but I'm an AMD user at the moment, so maybe there's an issue between Nvidia and Microsoft? Because I set to not download drivers last week, uninstalled the AMD driver it hsd to download the one from the site and it never tried to download again.

Can anyone help me with a few issues i'm having. I can't get sound to work and have Realtek HD sound. I downloaded the W10 drivers too. My gaming headset only puts out a very very low sound. Making it nearly impossible to game competitively.

I have the notification icon in my notification area that says get windows 10 but it says its not ready yet and in my event log it says update to windows 10 failed @~@

Seems to list that once a day so I'm a bit confused

it's on a rollout schedule so until its your turn it checks and fails every day

you can force it to upgrade if you want

Thanks for the feedback, some attention is better than none. I went ahead and tried to install Windows 10 on my laptop and had no problems there. This is really starting to frustrate me because any kind of fix I found online isn't doing it :/

I've mentioned this multiple times in this thread, but it's been eleven-ish days since I've upgraded, and it's still happening.

Whenever I turn computer on for the first time each day, it works fine for five-to-ten minutes but then abruptly shuts down, no shutting down screen or anything. Then it turns itself back on and it doesn't do that for the rest of the day. The only time I don't recall this happening was the day after I downloaded the first service pack.

I'm thinking it's a hardware issue, but I don't want to revert, I honestly really like Windows 10. I've read that there's malware that causes this sort of thing as well, but I would've thought it'd be addressed by now.

Doesn't sound like it is shutting down. Just the screen going black

Is it wise to force it or could you run into extra issues

+ If it updates to windows 10 will I get no picture because my gpu drivers are win 8.1 drivers? or should I install the win 10 drivers 1st

I decided to install GTA5 on my MacBook using a GT 650M with a I7-3720qm and I'm shocked how good it runs. I'm getting over 70fps on high settings. Rarely dose it ever dip below 60fps. Unless my fps counter is busted.

My Windows 10 Pro deactivated itself yesterday.

Upgraded from Win 7 Pro to Win 10 Pro without issue and then did a clean install to Win 10 Pro. Initially activated without issue for two or three days. Then late last night I went to check something online and am now greetd with a prompt on my screen to activate Windows. My generic upgrade key is no longer valid apparently. Anyone else have this happen? MS support just says to wait 48 hours but I don't really think that's going to change anything.

Mine sat like this for 4 days before I decided to reinstall 8.1, go through the upgrade process (it prompts you during 8.1 setup now!) then do a PC reset (this retains the product key given to Win10 during install)

Makes no difference other than timing

You'll probably be stuck in 1024x768 until the drivers are updated, but you should get a picture

Don't install the windows 10 driver beforehand

I didn't have any crashes with FF and this driver and been running since W10 came out. Sucks that they blocked the driver. I also noticed high cpu usage, well more than before installing the 40.0 version.

does anyone have any tips on getting max payne 1 and 2 to run? they worked fine in win7 but now when i run either of them a little .tmp file appears briefly in task manager but nothing ever happens. no launcher, no process, nothing. the log file shows timestamps for every attempt but they're all blank.

i tried the steam version, then i tried reinstalling my cd versions. i tried them patched and unpatched, with the sound fix, tried running on a single core, different compatibility settings, command line parameters, etc. i'm out of ideas.

Haven't been able to access the Store for at least a week now...Any fix?

Open an administrative command prompt and type WSReset.exe.

If that doesn't work try this.

Search for PowerShell, right click icon and select run as administrator.
Copy the below command and press Enter:

Get-AppxPackage | % { Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppxManifest.xml" -verbose }

I am having an odd problem that I never had before the upgrade to Windows 10. My previous OS was Windows 8.1 Pro. Even though I deselect "Show Desktop Icons" to make them disappear they always show back up every time I reboot. Under my previous OS I did this once and it was set forever. I never had to worry about it. Now they show up every time I boot up my PC. This is annoying me and I can't figure out a solution. Could someone please help?
