I would bet 100 billion pounds Stevens is the next bond. Was fucking awesome in the guest. Elbas ship has probably sailed, but would love to see him as a 005 type agent in the next Bond.

Eh? I didn't say that though. I don't think EON have been saying "It's time for a Black bond", they just offered the role to someone they thought would be great in it, and he's black. To my knowledge, they're not looking for "a black Bond" which some people seem to be.
Ding ding ding, this is the guy. In the same way that Layer Cake gave Bond to Craig, The Guest really puts the qualities required on display. That, and he's young enough, has reasonable recognition (Downton Abbey and the upcoming Beauty and the Beast remake) but not so much to be prohibitively expensive (a big deal in these Bond contracts).
Elba would be great, but I fear that his age after Craig's tenure is up and the potential cost of getting him onboard will ultimately sink his chances.
Nobody said you did. Just pointing out that EON was talking to a guy about being that very thing regardless what the US was "demanding." Plus, the US seems to be "demanding" it largely for the same reason EON's been thinking about it: Because Idris Elba seems like such a great choice. Such a great choice that EON talked to the man multiple times about being the first black James Bond..
Which means it's a possibility in ways people were denying it could be up until now.
I think the guy would make an awful film Bond. I've seen him in Jack Reacher and he just doesn't have the presence or stature. I'm Team Idris all the way.
Or it could just be I just think Living Daylights stands out as being darker from the rest of the Bond movies (which I find generally boring) in terms of more grounded characters and escapades before Casino Royale came along. Apparently his version was also the closest to the books.
Dalton was a shock to the system, coming off the Moore era. If he came along nowadays he'd likely have been celebrated in much the way Craig's take on the role has been. But yes, he pretty much was the closest to book Bond during his time.
