Fighting Games Weekly |8/10-16| Gods(Beard) Among Us

I don't entirely mind the disk release, but I wish there were other options. What doesn't make sense to me is that a game like Xrd can launch with a good-sized roster and massive story mode at $60, and then they will release the next entry with another massive story mode, but only 3-4 new characters, at $60 again. That isn't a reasonable pricing point for me.

Well it looks like they updated the shaders and lighting some more as well xD

To me I always look past it just being new characters. I also count all the balance changes as part of the package, new songs, new stages.

Not to mention the story mode with the way they have it set up in Xrd was basically like a season of an anime. So it's a lot of animation and voice acting.

The extra characters don't even really mean much to me because I only play so many myself I might dabble into a new character and if they click I'll stick with them but I rarely play everyone at least not seriously so a bunch of new characters isnt a big deal for me as well I wont really be touching them ever

Revelator looks cool but I cant justify buying it with the netcode as it is. Plus I know they are going to release another update with the characters I like so Ill just wait for a bigger more comprehensive release.

I'm excited for SF5 because of the growth and the huge community it will have, but as for actually playing the game, I'm looking forward to Revelator a lot more.

None of that is anything like what ArcSys did with Xrd though. Talking about how something is modelled and rendered in the game, not what is rendered. And ambitious attempts at that, which is why I qualified as such in my last post.
What?

They do the same thing as everyone else, render a 3D model and apply shaders/lighting to it. The difference is that the style they wanted to achieve is not something the western developers are interested in.

Yep, the new look in trailers seems good.

Edit: They can also improve the online component in the new console version. I mean revelatory console port is very likely to be a good value for the money, the only real problem is that it will devalue Xrd when it comes out.

Lol this classic scrub post.

SF5 going to be the main game. Wasn't looking forward to revelator at all, but now with jam, I'll start playing xrd some more.

Will say that sf5's new business model does make it more difficult for me to justify spending so much on other fighters.

Xrd's netcode is widely considered good. If you've only experienced it during launch, I think you should give it another try, it has been since patched to be pretty damn fantastic (in my personal experience). Concerns about price, I'm sympathetic to. I'll buy it day one because it's my main game, but maybe they should consider a digital-only upgrade at a reduced price, like maybe half the price of the full-fledged retail release. It would be a much easier sell for people who like the game but have only been playing casually, etc. Maybe they will sell more that way, idk

Are there gonna be any system wide changes in revelator? I think xrds system could still use a lot of tweaks.

For one I'd like the lifebars to represent reality. GUTS was never that crazy.

Another totally subjective and unprovable complaint I have about xrd is that the neutral is way more messy than in +r... Even p4 has cleaner more interesting neutral game imo.

Speaking of which, I saw you on a few hours ago. Want to play a set?

IIRC, Blitz Shield is getting changed.

Biggest change is that they added throw teching and blitz shield now has some sort of attack out of it.

Lol this classic scrub post.
Its scrubby to wait for my mains to join the game? Its scrubby to ask for better netcode? Lol alright guess Ive been a scrub all these years playing FGs.
Edit: I had no idea there was a netcode patch, havent kept up with GG much after it launched. Ive heard it still isnt that great compared to BB or SF4, is this true?

Max lag I have had is 5 frames. Most matches are ~3 frames. Not sure what your standards are, but that is fine in my book. Probably less than my TV creates.

They have the one thing they all don't have though and that's a constantly updating story. So they always have an excuse for a full release. Now I don't think they should ever release extend crap though as disc releases.

To me as long as each disc release has a reason to be a disc release I'm ok with it.

The story mode is so bad nobody should be forced to pay for it. Just give me my fighting game update as a DLC and let the weeaboos pay for discs if they want to watch a new chapter of Sol's depression (featuring Bedman the plot filler).

I have not found a compelling reason to play single player arcade/story modes in fighting games in over a decade outside of unlocking characters

Ah, cool.

Jack-O looks fantastic, but I doubt I would have the patience to learn another deep and complicated character mid-title. I learned my lesson from Mewtwo. :-P

Oh, you know what? I forgot about the story mode. I might get it, then. My wife really enjoyed the story mode last time, and I thought it was cool, too.

Xrd went heavily on sale not too long after release, I may wait it out a bit after dropping $60 on the initial release.

I don't think you're understanding my point but it's OK. This probably isn't the right thread to discuss this anyway and I've went way over my post word quota for the day.

Watched the guilty bits episode on Jam- she seems boring.
Some people just want to play a straight forward rushdown character like Makoto, Felicia, etc. ASW has to cator to different tastes. You and I like wonky characters with weird mechanics and movement. Jack-o is "for us".

Yeah, I know. But does guilty gear need another 'bad neutral but once they get in it's GGZ' char? That's like half the cast already.

Yea they don't.... they need a fucking zoner. Like oh I dunno....TESTAMENT.

All these brain dead characters getting in smdh

Isn't Johnny a zoner in the neutral?

You know I wouldn't complain if Testament got in. One of two characters I would consider using over Zato, since Zato has two shortcomings I am not a fan of (in terms of my own preferences).

Johnny is not a zoner. In fact I'd go so far as to say gg didn't have a dedicated zoner in the cast till maybe justice

Edit: oh my bad I double posted

Well, the typical ASW formula is "zone until you can rush". The games they make don't really have dedicated zoners or keep away.
