Metal Gear Solid V: Gamescom Gameplay Demo

What a stupid bastard.
I knew I didn't like him.
He has some jaded views but I tend to get where he's coming from on some of that stuff even if I completely don't agree about 3.
He likes watching Kojima go off the deep in dumb ways end rather than construct a pretty regular solid experience, 3 was really good but not nearly as insane as 2 or 4 (Which is a good thing), but I get why people might prefer the insanity.

Reviews a week before release? That seems to me like Konami are pretty confident in the product. Does that not seem a little ironic considering the events of the past few months?

I can see the game being pretty divisive as far as review scores go. You have to imagine that most reviewers won't have played Peace Walker, and anyone going into this game expecting another MGS1-4 style experience is going to have a rude awakening.

Any journalist that is "rudely awakened" by the massive overhaul the series has undergone hasn't done their research; their opinion should be stricken from the records and they should be soundly beaten for their ignorance. If they simply don't like the direction it's gone, that's another story entirely.

I think a lot of people at Konami are actually good people, only the suits at the very top are fucked up in the head. Just look at the retweets of cosplay and general hype.

Konami's infamous in the TCG industry for letting rivers of money slip through their fingers because the head office in dai nippon manage the Yugioh franchise in the West particularly awfully, and generally do their utmost to throw away their position as the 2nd biggest selling franchise in the US behind Magic The Gathering to Pokemon.

They're well known for treating the card shops worse than any of the other major TCG distributors because of silly company wide policies.

Garden variety Japanese suits are just extremely poor when it comes to foreign markets as a general rule.

Man, I've been watching this gameplay demo over and over, and only now I've come to realize how great it would be if we were to get P.T. or any sort of short Silent Hills segment in a similiar fashion to how Snake's nightmare was in the PS2 version of Metal Gear Solid 3.

I watch this everyday+the E3 trailer

The E3 trailer got a Horror vibe to it.

Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain is, as we know, his very last Metal Gear Solid game and the least we can do is buy it and say thank you

I don't think its necessary to buy the game to say thank you. This reads kind of makes something possibly good sound like marketing.

I was apprehensive about paying £57.99 for it but then I remembered it's Kojima's swan song, and you can't put a price on brilliance.

and if you could, people would want it cheap as fuck.

Got my pre order paid off at the start of the month for about £38. I would have liked to go digital for this but...the price difference...also the possibility of physical release being a bit early. Also ordered the LE Strategy Guide for little reason other than collectable etc.

Quantity < Diversity. It can have two open worlds, like The Witcher 3, and still have a hugely diverse range of locations. I'm more worried about miles of samey looking desert and outposts.

I'm quite certain this isn't going to happen. I've got a vibe TPP is going to have god-tier level design.

It's very likely that either Afghanistan or South Africa will range up into mountains and snowy terrain. Would be truly MGS3 style.

I'm disappointed there aren't more open worlds, because TW3 has spoiled me, but I think the detail and diversity and richness of TPP is going to outweight the size factor.

Hope so. If there's a criticism I have of TW3 it'd be that in my hours in Velen so far I feel like apart from the cities in the distance there's no particular "landmark" that's grabbed me and thus it all ends up feeling very samey. Skellige I only just reached yesterday so I'll have to wait and see but it's quite pretty. For TPP...by virtue of being in part desert I can forgive some of the possible "faults" of Kabul/Afghanistan/Wherever it is. Although I obviously hope for some variety, as the idea of the Kabul mountains and a russian base etc is pretty damn exciting, or even the boss fight vs
Quiet
set among st Afghan ruins in a valley.

For the Africa setting...well apart from the jungles it has the climable rock walls and waterfalls etc...I guess at the end of the day I don't mind if the Afghan desert and the African jungles are just that but I hope they haven't been made "big" just to tick a box although the range of transportation and things to do means that it'd take me a while to get bored and resort to any fast travel method...

It'd be cool to sneak into a russian base in Afghanistan only for things to go tits up and erupt into a firefight and the noise attracts some guards who were on a road patrol or at a checkpoint down the valley etc.

I was watching the super cut of Peace Walker, and came up with a dumb fan theory. Having no good place to put it, I will dump it here. Feel free to ignore if you don't want to hear my crackpot theory.
Paz, or Pacifica Ocean is a clone of Eva. Les Enfants Terribles was a plan to clone all the patriots, not just Big Boss. I would assume there are other “ocean” clones, Atlantica? Eli could be one of the snakes, or maybe he is a clone of Zero?
Any how, that is the dumb idea I had when watching the recap of peace walker. Really though I don't think this is likely, but the game is two weeks away and I can not stop my brain from running wild. I want it so bad and I can not block it out to make time go faster...

I think someone could imagine an evil accent saying "I am Atlanteeeecaa Oceeeeean..." but the idea is interesting. The terrible children of the Patriots, genetically engineered by Zero, Sigint and Paramedic to fulfill the ideals of the Patriots in some fashion. It could be interesting considering Zero felt betrayed by people and went towards the AI route that even though we've seen ProtoAIs in Peace Walker...what if it's the events of The Phantom Pain with the warring against Skull Face, Big Boss, Atlantica Ocean (believe) etc that make him think no-one can fulfill his version of the Boss' will but the founding fathers of the Patriots.

I still think the Skulls will be Zero's attempt at using proto nanomachines and psychotherapy etc to create perfect soldiers based on The Boss and the Cobra unit and that Quiet will be the version of the End...

What impresses me about the "level" design is the realism, but then again, they collected data from the real life locations if I'm not mistaken. Still impressive though, and it surely adds to the beauty.

Don't forget the swamplands!

Those too! I've been a little lax on the gameplay footage pretty much the last year. I've watched bits and pieces but if I devoured it the wait would be terrible. MGS4 came out the day I took my Geography GCSE and if anyone asks I blame it for me getting a D.

Disclaimer: It wasn't, of course, I was just terrible at Geography.

Holy shit, now I feel old.

Glad there are people who appreciate what you get out of a game like this. If it entertains me for 30 hours those 65€ I paid are nothing. :)

Only 30? I've probably played Ground Zeroes for longer than that. I wouldn't be surprised if I breeze past 30 hours before I'm even finished with my first playthrough; I don't even want to think about the disgusting amounts of time I'm going to be dumping into this game in the years to come :P

same. i've put 120 or more hours into ground zeroes between the ps3 and pc versions. it's just really, really fun to play.

When MGS4 came out I took a one week vacation from work and spent it in whole to play the game.

Now I have my own business and I guess I just have to close the shop for a week again, lol.

Personally, I blame Time. Yes, Time, the merciless, mercurial mistress of minutes. Oh... how I curse her unflinching gaze! Each tick a hammer felled against my temple, each tock a nail in the coffin of my bosom! This is no flesh upon my bones, but a rotting body-bag I must bear through the mortuary of life! I say unto that wench: CURSE YOU, CHRONOLOGICAL CLOCK-TEASE! TEMPESTUOUS TEMPORAL TART! FOUL IMMORAL SL--

...

i think i'm having a nervous breakdown.

I'm playing MGS4 and what the fuck is that?
Please tell me it's a montage. Fuck I need to leave this forum.

It's nothing. Ignore it.

I'm really sorry! If it helps, you'll see it if you leave the menu running. Plus, it was in the trailers. Even so, I'm still really sorry though.
