Xbox One adds Xbox 360 backwards compatibility

Is the experience the same whether you have the original game on disc or purchased digitally? If I have Gears on disc and someone bought it digital, are we both downloading the same amount of data?

Just asking as I have a lot on disc and would consider buying again via digital if there's any advantage. If the only advantage is not having to insert the disc, I'm good with the disc version then.

Even with the disc, it downloads the full game, and it's all stored on the HDD. Disc is only used for verifiction

This is the second time it's gone on sale within a month. Hopefully that means it's got a good chance at backwards compatibility

Rockstar games are always on sale. I wouldn't read too much into it, they're on sale so often that they may aswell just keep it at the same price every week. I hope you're right though.

I just found out today you get the first four gears games if you buy the ultimate edition and play it within the year. That's awesome. Never got around to turn gears of war franchise. It'll build me up for gears 4.

Gears 1 DLC works afaik so I think they solved that already(?)

Gears 1 is a special case as both DLC packs were free. They just bundled them together with the game itself and distributed them via TU for those who had already downloaded it. We still don't know what their plan is for games with paid DLC.

We know that DLC will work when the BC program is released officially this fall.

Activision is such a piece of shit company. That is a HUGE publisher saying no to Microsoft.

edit: I feel incredibly silly. This video is just some youtuber that is making "educated guesses" based off of Activision's logo not being present at Microsoft's Gamescom conference. That doesn't mean Activision is definitely never going to have any BC games on XB1. That video consists of just one person's speculation and personally I find it disingenious to state with authority that "previous call of duty titles are NOT going to be backwards compatible".

Spark notes for TmarTn's video:
Activision hasn't announced support for backwards compatibility; therefore either they're remastering the old ones (what he wants) or they're going to announce support later.

He's making news out of something that isn't news.

It's Tmartn lol, he knows nothing. He's just looking for some quick youtube money and hates xbox so it's not surprising he's blowing it out of proportion. It's his speculation, not fact like he's trying to make people believe and pretty much everything he said in the video was false anyways.

Just ignore him.

or they're still evaluating

My completely uneducated guess would be they download all DLC packs with the Xbox One version and then use the 360's DRM management system to entitle usage allowance.

Of course, I didn't think 360 emulation using only software would be possible, so...

or they're still evaluating

As I've mentioned a few times already, they definitely have it running, I suspect they even have a test team dedicated to getting MW to work.

I guess there could a few reasons

1: they are waiting to announce it
2: activision in on haven't agreed, but they are working on it because it has some unique technical aspects that will benefit emulation overall
3: it works, but not very well (60fps?)
4: the BC platform is going to be used as a way of "remaking" games and that is why it is being actively worked on.

LolTmartn, don't take his 'best guess' as information.

He used to be great for tips and tricks on CoD with spots etc on games, now (not that I blame him, I'd do the same if I was in his position) he's just a sellout with clickbait titles to his videos.

Besides CoD is not the sort of game you want to be playing with sketchy emulation and it struggled on the 360 at som epoints to be honest, so I would not be entirely sure how well the BC would even handle MP CoD, I expect it's currently far from acceptable.

Errr... WHat about the PS4 market?

I know this is probably pipe dreams but.. being that Bethesda announced mod support for Fallout 4 (eventually) do you think there would be any chance of mod support for Skyrim bc on Xbox one? One can dream....

I doubt it somehow because of the hardware limitations of the 360.

Speculation. Until Activision or Microsoft come out and say they're not, I wouldn't look to much into it. I can see Microsoft talking to Activision like hey, we know you're doing your thing with Sony but let's bundle Black Ops 1 and 2 on BC for pre-orders on BO3 on the Xbox One. To me that seems like a no brainer.

Pretty sure that would piss Sony off to no end and digital preorders would probably tank on PS4. Just my very uneducated guess.

Hoping to high hell that NieR becomes backwards compatible or even better get's an HD re-release before NieR 2 comes out.

Vote for it if you're inclined.

100% no way they will get to bundle the games. If the games are BC, they'll be made BC but Activision aren't going to bundle previous CODs with their new versions all the while Sony have marketing.

I was actually thinking about this when playing Rare Replay, I wouldn't mind more games that use BC but have an xb1 version simply act as a portal to those games. Would lead to easy sales and will persuade other publishers on board.

The Microsoft bundle - 30 first party games for $30
The CoD bundle - All 360 cods for $30
knowing activision they'd want to charge $60 per series
The Rockstar bundle - All Rockstar games for $30
The Ubisoft bundle - All AC, FC, Rayman games for $30

I don't like AC but I'd play their games if they released a cheap bundle like Rare Replay.

Activision, for me anyways, has overtaken EA's spot last generation as worst publisher. EA is doing all the right things this gen so far, and Acti is releasing horrible "remasters" of Prototype for $50, and refuses to comment or agree to backwards compatibility. Meanwhile I have EA Access and EA promised support for BC.

If someone would have told me two year ago that the companies would be swapping places in terms of gamer support I would have laughed in their face.

I pulled the trigger on Red Dead, hopefully it comes to back compat.

I don't see it as meaning anything. The demand is there. But I'd hedge my bets that its gets a full blown current port. Quite frankly, I'd much rather have RDR in 1080p/60 fps (or even 30) than have it as BC.

How is that a no brainer? Most people who would buy and pre-order BLOPS 1 and 2 would likely already own them.

I think Activision plans on releasing BC games, but as preorder incentives for future releases.

"Preorder the next COD and receive COD:MW BC NOW!"

Aside from maybe GTA, CoD is the most popular brand in gaming. The last thing they would start doing is giving away free games as pre-order incentives.

I was just looking at the store and the pricing for the Prototype games is insane. $30 for Prototype and $40 for Prototype 2. I really wouldn't be surprised if Activision remastered the COD games and charged $60 for each game.

Here is how I suspect Activision would do it:

They would release the single player campaigns of each series in their own box set. The Modern Warfare collection would be one set and the Black Ops would be another. $60 each (maybe $40 for BlOPS since it would be two games).

Each set would also provide a mappack to the annual CoD release that would only be available for those who purchases the sets. 5-10 greatest maps from each series.

That's how I could see Activision doing it.

What about the MP? Would they release that seperately?
